Hawkins Point is a neighborhood in the South District of Baltimore, located at the southern tip of the city between Curtis Bay (north) and the Anne Arundel County line (south) and Thoms Cove (east). Its land area covers 2.6 square miles (6.7 km2), and it had a population of 24 people according to the 2020 U.S. Census. The neighborhood is predominantly industrial.Industrial residents of Hawkins Point include the Quarantine Road Sanitary Landfill, owned by Baltimore City, a 67-acre hazardous waste landfill at 5501 Quarantine Road, owned by the Maryland Port Administration (MPA) and now a Superfund site and a foundry at 4000 Hawkins Point Road owned by Eastalco Aluminum Company.

The Leading Point Light was an unusual lighthouse which displayed the rear light to the Brewerton Channel Range. It was eventually superseded by an iron tower on the same foundation.

The United States Coast Guard Yard or just Coast Guard Yard is a United States Coast Guard operated shipyard located on Curtis Bay in northern Anne Arundel County, Maryland, just south of the Baltimore city limits. It is the largest industrial facility in the Department of Homeland Security. It falls under the Coast Guard's Engineering and Logistics Command. It is the Coast Guard's sole shipbuilding and major repair facility, and part of the Coast Guard's core industrial base and fleet support operations. Engineering, logistics, and maintenance responsibilities and complete life-cycle support; installation, operations, maintenance and ultimately replacement. Its annual budget is $88 million.

WWIN-FM (95.9 FM) is an urban adult contemporary radio station in Baltimore owned by Urban One. It is known as "Magic 95.9", playing a variety of urban adult contemporary music from the 1960s to present. Its transmitter is located along I-695 in Hawkins Point near Curtis Bay (officially Glen Burnie, Maryland), and its studios are located in Gwynn Oak (they were previously located at Cathy Hughes Plaza in downtown Baltimore).

Thoms Cove, the nickname for Thomas Cove, is a natural cove approximately 1,500 feet (0.28 mi) in diameter in Hawkins Point, Baltimore on the northeastern end of the peninsula with the tidal Patapsco River to the northeast, Curtis Bay to the northwest, Hawkins Point to the west and I-695 to the south. Thoms Cove is bordered by Eastalco Aluminum Company's loading and storage facility and a Superfund landfill. It is in the USGS quadrangle "Curtis Bay" and a Maryland grid coordinate of 500800N and 928000E and is largely administered by the Maryland Port Administration.

The Alum Chine explosion was a disaster that occurred in the Patapsco River near Baltimore, Maryland on March 7, 1913. The tramp steamer Alum Chine exploded while loading dynamite, killing 33 and injuring 60.

Curtis Creek is a tidal creek located in Baltimore City and Anne Arundel County, Maryland. It is a tributary of the cove Curtis Bay and is adjacent to the west of the South Baltimore community of Curtis Bay. The creek begins at the confluence of Furnace Creek and Marley Creek in northern Anne Arundel County, Maryland and flows north about 2.5 miles (4.0 km) into Curtis Bay (which now lies in the City of Baltimore) which opens to the east into the main branch and stem of the Patapsco River (serving as the Port of Baltimore) and Chesapeake Bay.

Fort Armistead was a United States Army coastal defense fort, active from 1901 to 1920, that defended Baltimore, Maryland.

The Brandon Shores Generating Station is an electric generating station located on Fort Smallwood Road north of Orchard Beach in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, near Glen Burnie, and is operated by Raven Power Holdings, Inc. Brandon Shores consists of two Babcock & Wilcox coal-fired boilers and two General Electric steam turbines with a combined nominal generating capacity of 1370 MWe. Unit 1 went into operation in May 1984 and Unit 2 in May 1991.The station shares a 483-acre (195 ha) site adjacent to the Patapsco River with the Herbert A. Wagner Generating Station. The Brandon Shores plant dominates the site with its 700-foot (210 m) exhaust and 400-foot (120 m) flue-gas desulfurization (FGD) system stacks. In April 2023, Talen notified their grid operator, PJM, that they intended to close the station.

On March 26, 2024, at 1:28 a.m. EDT (05:28 UTC), the main spans and the three nearest northeast approach spans of the Francis Scott Key Bridge across the Patapsco River in the Baltimore metropolitan area of Maryland, United States, collapsed after the container ship Dali struck one of its piers. Six members of a maintenance crew working on the roadway were killed, while two more were rescued from the river. The collapse blocked most shipping to and from the Port of Baltimore for 11 weeks. Maryland Governor Wes Moore called the event a "global crisis" that had affected more than 8,000 jobs. The economic impact of the closure of the waterway has been estimated at $15 million per day. Maryland officials have said they plan to replace the bridge by fall 2028 at an estimated cost of $1.7 billion to $1.9 billion.

The Francis Scott Key Bridge replacement is a project to replace the Francis Scott Key Bridge in greater Baltimore, Maryland, United States. The Key bridge collapsed on March 26, 2024, after a container ship struck one of its piers. The southernmost crossing of the lower Patapsco River, the bridge was part of the Interstate Highway System and a major piece of the region's transportation infrastructure: a well-trafficked part of the Baltimore Beltway (Interstate 695 or I-695) linking Dundalk in Baltimore County and the Hawkins Point neighborhood of Baltimore. It crossed the deep-water shipping channel leading to the Port of Baltimore, one of the country's busiest ports. Officials at the Maryland Department of Transportation have announced plans to replace the bridge by the fourth quarter of 2028 at an estimated cost of $1.7 billion to $1.9 billion.
