Birch Bay is a protected bay of the east shore of the Salish Sea, between Semiahmoo Bay and Lummi Bay; approximately 100 miles (160 km) north of Seattle and 35 miles (56 km) south of Vancouver, BC, Canada. The bay gives its name to a census-designated place (CDP) along the bay's shore in Whatcom County, Washington, United States. The population was 8,413 at the 2010 census, a 69.6% increase over the 2000 census. Birch Bay was named in 1792 by Archibald Menzies, a member of the Vancouver Expedition. Vancouver's two ships used Birch Bay as an anchorage for several days. Menzies noted a number of species of birch and gave the name to the bay.

KVRI (1600 AM) (branded as Radio Punjab) is a commercial radio station licensed to Blaine, Washington, United States, and serving Greater Vancouver in British Columbia, Canada. It airs a radio format of Bollywood music, news and talk in Hindi, Punjabi and other South Asian languages. It is owned by Multicultural Broadcasting. By day, KVRI transmits 50,000 watts (the maximum for commercial AM stations), but to protect other stations on 1600 AM from interference, at night power is reduced to 10,000 watts. KVRI uses a directional antenna with a six-tower array, directing the signal to the northwest to cover Greater Vancouver. The transmitter is on Tracy Place in Birch Bay, Washington, about 4 miles (6.4 km) from the Canada–US border. Programming is also heard on FM translator K287CI on 105.3 MHz in Blaine.

Blaine Air Force Station is a closed United States Air Force General Surveillance Radar station. It is located 5.5 miles (8.9 km) south of Blaine, Washington. It was closed in 1979.

Birch Bay State Park is a 194-acre (79 ha) Washington state park located nine miles (14 km) south of Blaine in Whatcom County. The park has 8,255 feet (2,516 m) of saltwater shoreline on Birch Bay and 15,000 feet (4,600 m) of freshwater shoreline along Terrell Creek. Recreational opportunities include camping, picnicking, fishing, hiking, crabbing, clamming, and boating.

The Whitehorn Generating Station is a power plant near Blaine, Washington, owned by Puget Sound Energy and located immediately west of BP's Cherry Point Refinery. The plant comprises two 75 MW natural gas-fueled combustion turbines.

Blaine is a city in Whatcom County, Washington, United States. The city's northern boundary is the Canada–U.S. border; the Peace Arch international monument straddles the border of both countries. The population was 5,884 at the 2020 census. Since Blaine is located right on the border with Canada, it is the northernmost city on Interstate 5.

The Cherry Point Refinery is an oil refinery near Bellingham, Washington, north of Seattle in the United States. Owned by BP, is the largest refinery in Washington state (and was the 30th largest in the U.S. in 2015). It is located about seven miles (11 km) south of Blaine and eight miles (13 km) northwest of Ferndale, a few miles south of the Canada–US border, on the Strait of Georgia between Birch Bay and Lummi Bay. Completed in 1971, its design and construction was overseen by George W. Glade, CEO and President of Parsons Constructors, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of the Ralph M. Parsons Company. It is the fourth largest refinery on the West Coast, and one of the last major oil refineries built in the United States. The Cherry Point refinery supplies about 20% of the gasoline in Washington state.Originally an Atlantic Richfield (ARCO) facility, the refinery became a BP operation 22 years ago in January 2002, following BP's April 2000 purchase of ARCO. The refinery was initially planned to be built closer to Seattle, at Kayak Point, northwest of Everett, but Atlantic Richfield abandoned those plans in October 1968 and built the facility at Cherry Point. When first operational, Cherry Point had a capacity of about 100,000 barrels (16,000 m3); it currently processes over 225,000 barrels (35,800 m3) of petroleum (crude oil) per day, with 90% becoming gasoline, diesel or jet fuel. It covers about 3,300 acres (5.2 sq mi; 13 km2).Most of Cherry Point's crude oil is from the Alaska North Slope. It is brought in by petroleum tankers via the Strait of Juan de Fuca and Rosario Strait and delivered directly to the refinery via the facility's tanker pier near a minor headland called Cherry Point, on the Strait of Georgia. The refinery received the first oil through the Trans-Alaska Pipeline, transported aboard the ARCO Juneau, in early August 1977. The remainder of the crude comes from a pipeline connected to reserves in Western Canada. In January 2014 the refinery finished construction of a rail facility to import Bakken crude from North Dakota.The gasoline and diesel are primarily shipped to filling stations in Washington and Oregon via the Olympic Pipeline and over-the-road fuel trucks. Jet fuel from Cherry Point Refinery accounts for 85% of the fuel used by the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Significant quantities of calcined coke are also produced and shipped to the nearby ALCOA aluminium smelter. A fire in February 2012 caused the plant to be shut down for several weeks.

Blaine Municipal Airport (IATA: BWS, FAA LID: 4W6) was a city-owned public-use airport, also known as Dierks Field, located one nautical mile (1.8 km) east of the central business district of Blaine, a city in Whatcom County, Washington, United States. It was closed on December 31, 2008.

Blaine High School, established in 1906, is located in Blaine, Washington, United States, which is situated in the northwest corner of the state, adjacent to the Canada–US border. The school operates within the Blaine School District and serves approximately 639 students in grades 9-12. It is ranked 39th out of 539 high schools in the state. Students have the opportunity to take Advanced Placement course work and exams. The AP participation rate at Blaine High School is 38%. The student teacher ratio of 19:1 is equal to the state average. The 80% graduation rate is higher than the state average of 77%. The school's spending/student of $10,218 is higher than the state average of $8,997.

MV Plover is an 11-ton, 17-passenger ferry in Whatcom County, Washington, built in 1944, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997. She is owned by the City of Blaine, Washington and operated by the nonprofit Drayton Harbor Maritime. She originally ferried workers from Blaine to the Alaska Packers' Association cannery at Semiahmoo Spit (now the site of Semiahmoo Resort), carrying out this function until 1964. She was restored by volunteers of Whatcom Maritime Historical Society, and now carries passengers during the summer months from the Blaine harbor dock across Drayton Harbor to the resort dock. At approximately 1 kilometer, this is claimed to be the shortest ferry run in Washington. She is the second oldest operating foot passenger ferry in Washington, next to Kitsap Transit's Carlisle II which was built in Bellingham 27 years earlier, in 1917.In 1998, the Plover restoration was recognized by the Washington State Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation as demonstrating "the best of preservation practice" with a Valerie Sivinski Award for Outstanding Achievement in Historic Preservation Rehabilitation Projects.

Semiahmoo Resort is a golfing resort and spa overlooking Semiahmoo Bay, opposite Blaine, Washington, northwest of Bellingham in the northwestern coast of the United States. Set within 1,100 acres (450 ha), it lies on a long sandy spit in the northern part of Puget Sound near the Canada–US border. The name of the resort is from the Semiahmoo indigenous people in whose Salish language it is the word for "half moon" and describes the crescent shaped land the resort was built on.Semiahmoo Resort opened in 1987 and is home to the Semiahmoo Golf and Country Club, set further south of the sandy spit along the coast. The Semiahmoo golf course was designed by Arnold Palmer and was voted the 6th best golf course in Washington state by Golfweek in 2011. The resort hosts the Jeff Coston Academy, a notable golf academy. The AAA four diamond hotel, located at Semiahmoo Point, has 198 deluxe guest rooms including 28 suites. The resort has become a popular residence for Americans who work for Vancouver area companies who are willing to commute across an international border due to the extreme housing costs in Vancouver.The hotel, restaurants and spa closed effective December 1, 2012. In June 2013, The Resort Semiahmoo LLC, a part of the Wright Hotels group of Seattle, Washington purchased the hotel for $19.5 Million. With $6 Million of planned renovations in place, the resort officially re-opened for limited operations on August 15, 2013. In January, 2014, the Pacific Northwest Resort began a $9 million renovation project. In the summer of 2016 the resort opened a beach activities center located in one of the existing cannery buildings. Operations are during summer months with hours from 11 am to 2pm Monday through Thursday and from 10 am to 5 pm Friday to Sunday.For years, the resort owned the Loomis Trail Golf Course, located approximately 4 miles east of the Semiahmoo Golf & Country Club. The Lummi Indian Business Council announced it had purchased the Loomis Trail Golf Course in October, 2018.

Semiahmoo Spit is a spit that protrudes from the westernmost expanse of shore on Semiahmoo Peninsula between Semiahmoo Bay and Drayton Harbor off the coast of Blaine in Whatcom County, Washington state. The spit is home to Semiahmoo Park.
