Pančevo City Stadium

Pančevo (Serbian Cyrillic: Панчево, pronounced [pâːntʃeʋo]; German: Pantschowa; Hungarian: Pancsova; Romanian: Panciova; Slovak: Pánčevo) is a city and the administrative center of the South Banat District in the autonomous province of Vojvodina, Serbia. It is located on the shores of rivers Tamiš and Danube, in the southern part of Banat region. Since the 2022 census 115,454 people have been living in the Pančevo administrative area. Pančevo is the third largest city in Vojvodina and the seventh largest in Serbia by population. Pančevo was first mentioned in 1153 and was described as an important mercantile place. It gained the status of a city in 1873 following the disestablishment of the Military Frontier in that region. For most of its period, it was the part of the Kingdom of Hungary and after 1920 it became part of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, which was renamed in 1929 to Yugoslavia. Since then with one interruption it was part of several Yugoslav states and after the dissolution of the latest in 2003, it is part of its successor state, Serbia. Pančevo is notable for being multi-ethnic, Serbs (and Germans until 1945) have been the dominant ethnic group since the 16th century and since 2011 they compose 80% of the total population of the city. Pančevo is a city with rich cultural events and monuments, and in the past, it also used to be a filming location for many national and international movie productions. Since 2003 an international and multi-cultural carnival has been organized in the city. It is also the main economic center of the South Banat region and its economy is also mostly tied up to Belgrade's economy. HIP factory is located in Pančevo as well as UTVA which was heavily damaged during the bombing of Yugoslavia in 1999. Pančevo is also well known for its brewery and silk factory which were founded in the early 18th century, and as well as the light bulb factory which are all now defunct. Pančevo is also home to many historical objects, museums and parks.

The Pančevo executions (Serbo-Croatian Latin: Pokolj u Pančevu; Serbian Cyrillic: Пoкoлј у Панчеву) were the summary execution of 36 Serb civilians in Pančevo from 21 to 22 April 1941, during World War II. The executions were carried out by the German army, in particular elements of the Panzergrenadier Division Großdeutschland, with the assistance of the Waffen SS, in particular elements of the 2nd SS Panzer Division Das Reich. The executions were also supported and facilitated by local Germans, in particular members of the Kulturbund. The executions came about in response to an alleged ambush by local Serbs on elements of the German army. In reality, the ambush was a false-flag operation, orchestrated by the local Germans.

The Church of the Assumption of the Theotokos (Serbian: Црква успења пресвете Богородице) in Pančevo is Serbian Orthodox church in Vojvodina, Serbia. It is listed as a Monument of Great Cultural Importance by the Republic of Serbia. The church was built between 1801 and 1810 with contributions from local benefactors, among whom was Karađorđe Petrović, the leader of the First Serbian Uprising. The church was designed in a Baroque style with Classical elements. It features a monumental single-nave structure flanked by two bell towers. The iconostasis was painted by Konstantin Danil in the 19th century. The western façade features a monumental portal and is dominated by two richly adorned bell towers, topped with a complex tin structure and a cross. According to the construction plan, these two towers symbolized the Serb people divided between two empires, the Austrian Empire and the Ottoman Empire.

The Sports and Recreation Center "Mladost" is located in the settlement of the same name in Pančevo and is a complex with a main and auxiliary football field, basketball courts, fields for five-a-side football, clay tennis, squash, a jogging track and outdoor exercise equipment. The Sports and Recreation Center "Mladost" covers an area of ​​8.32 hectares. The SRC Mladost complex is intended for training and recreation in a wooded environment that has the characteristics of a park. The Mladost complex also houses the home field of FK "Železničar", a club that currently participates in the highest level of Serbian football competition, the Super League.

The South Banat District (Serbian: Јужнобанатски округ, romanized: Južnobanatski okrug, pronounced [jûʒnobǎnaːtskiː ôkruːɡ]; Hungarian: Dél-bánsági körzet; Romanian: Districtul Banatul de Sud; Slovak: Juhobanátsky okres) is one of seven administrative districts of the autonomous province of Vojvodina, Serbia. The administrative center of the district is the city of Pančevo. The district lies in the region of Banat. According to the 2011 census results, it has a population of 260,244 inhabitants.

The Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord (Serbian: Црква преображења Господњег) in Pančevo is Serbian Orthodox church in Vojvodina, Serbia. The church was built at the same site where an earlier Serbian Orthodox church stood before.

The lighthouses at the confluence of the Tamiš and Danube rivers near the city of Pančevo were built in 1909 during the Austro-Hungarian Empire. At one time, they were also popularly known as the "Water Gate of the City". They represent immovable cultural property as cultural monuments of great importance.

The Timiș or Tamiš (Romanian: Timiș, Serbian: Тамиш, Hungarian: Temes, German: Temesch) is a 359-kilometre-long (223 mi) river that flows through the Banat region of Romania and Serbia and joins the Danube near Pančevo, in northern Serbia. Due to its position in the region, it has been labeled as the "spine of the Banat".

The Battle of Pancsova (now Pančevo, in the Pančevo municipality in the South Banat District Serbia) was a battle in the Hungarian War of Independence of 1848-1849, fought on 2 January 1849 between the Hungarian Army under the command of Lieutenant General Ernő Kiss against the Serbian insurgents led by Colonel Ferdinand Mayerhofer von Grünhübel. Pancsova was the last important Serbian stronghold in the Bánság/Banat region of Southern Hungary, after the Hungarian victories at Alibunar and Jarkovác. Because of the bad timing of the attack, the insufficient numbers of soldiers, and their clothing inappropriate for the very cold weather, Kiss's army was defeated, and forced to retreat. After this battle, due to the order of the Hungarian National Defense Committee to the troops fighting in southern Hungary, to retreat on the Maros's line, the Serbians occupied the whole Délvidék, and were able to extend their power to most of the territories they claimed to belong to their unilaterally proclaimed Serbian Vojvodina. This situation changed only in March when the Hungarian troops led by Mór Perczel counter-attacked.

Utva Aviation Industry (Serbian: Утва Авио Индустрија, romanized: Utva Avio Industrija), commonly known as UTVA is a Serbian manufacturer of general aviation aircraft, subsidiary of Yugoimport SDPR, headquartered in Pančevo.

Pančevo Airport (Аеродром Панчево or Aerodrom Pančevo) (ICAO: LYPA) is an airport near the city of Pančevo, Serbia near Belgrade. The airport is mostly used for general aviation operations. It has a single grass runway 1,000 metres long and 60 metres wide. The airport is also used by Utva Aviation Industry, a manufacturer of light sporting and training aircraft also located in Pančevo, for testing its aircraft.

Forkontumac (Serbian Cyrillic: Форконтумац) is a river island in Serbia, located on the Danube, east of Belgrade and north of the neighbouring island Čakljanac. Both islands are the southernmost part of Pančevo. The island has an area of 391,7 hectares. The river mouth of Tamiš into Danube is located north of Forkontumac.
