Bahan Township (Burmese: ဗဟန်း မြို့နယ်, pronounced [bəháɰ̃ mjo̰nɛ̀]) is located in the north central part of Yangon. The township comprises 22 wards, and shares borders with Yankin Township and Mayangon Township in the north, Sanchaung Township and Kamayut Township in the west, Tamwe Township in the east, and Dagon Township and Mingala Taungnyunt Township in the south. Bahan is one of the most prosperous townships in Yangon. Shwetaunggya (formerly, Golden Valley), Sayarsan Road and Inya Myaing are three of Yangon's most exclusive neighborhoods.

The International School Yangon (ISY; Burmese: အပြည်ပြည်ဆိုင်ရာကလေးများကျောင်း၊ ရန်ကုန်မြို့) is a private, co-educational day school, which offers an educational program from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12 for students of all nationalities who desire a U.S. education. The school was founded in 1955 and is widely considered to be the most prestigious secondary school in Myanmar due to its selectivity, academic rigor, breadth of on-campus facilities, and distinguished alumni. The school year typically begins the second week of August and ends the first week of June. The school operates as a private school entity in Myanmar (Burma). It is an American Embassy sponsored school and receives a small amount of its funding from The Office of Overseas Schools through the U.S. State Department.

The Martyrs' Mausoleum (Burmese: အာဇာနည်ဗိမာန်) is a Mausoleum in Yangon, Myanmar (Burma), located near the northern gate of Shwedagon Pagoda. The mausoleum is dedicated to Aung San and other leaders of the pre-independence interim government, all of whom were assassinated on 19 July 1947. It is customary for high-ranking government officials to visit the mausoleum on 19 July to pay respects, and 19 July was designated as Martyrs' Day, a public holiday.

The Rangoon bombing of 9 October 1983, was an assassination attempt against Chun Doo-hwan, the fifth president of South Korea, in Rangoon, Burma. The attempt was orchestrated by North Korea. Although Chun survived, 21 people died in the attack and 46 were injured. One suspect was later killed, and the two other suspected bombers were captured, one of whom confessed to being a North Korean military officer.

Basic Education High School No. 2 Sanchaung (Burmese: အမှတ် (၂) အခြေခံပညာအထက်တန်းကျောင်း စမ်းချောင်းမြို့နယ်; abbreviated to အ.ထ.က. (၂) စမ်းချောင်း; formerly, St. Philomena's High School; commonly known as Sanchaung 2 High School), located on Pyay Road, Sanchaung township, is a public high school in Yangon. The mostly-girls school offers classes from kindergarten to Tenth Standard (or Grade 1 through Grade 11 in the new nomenclature). The school's main colonial era building, in its 13-acre (5.26 hectare) campus, is a landmark protected by the city, and is listed on the Yangon City Heritage List. Mahar Myaing Building မဟာမြိုင်ဆောင် (commonly known as အပေါ်‌‌ကျောင်း) was built on December 8th 1926. Malar Myaing Building မာလာမြိုင်ဆောင် (commonly known as ‌အောက်ကျောင်း) was built in 1938. The school produced the top ranked students in 2009, 2010, 2013, and 2014 at national college matriculation examinations.

Sanchaung Township (Burmese: စမ်းချောင်းမြို့နယ် [sáɰ̃dʑáʊɰ̃ mjo̰nɛ̀]) is in the north central part of Yangon. The township comprises 18 wards, and shares borders with Kamayut Township in the north, Kamayut township and Bahan Township in the east, Kyimyindaing Township in the west, and Dagon Township and Ahlon Township in the south. The township has 19 primary schools, two middle schools and four high schools. Dagon Center I and II are shopping malls inside the township, where there are many restaurants, fashion shops, and Mingalar Cinema. Other recreational spaces include Happy World recreation center and People's Park. Sanchaung is known as "Little Kachin".
