Alwarpet is an upcoming underground metro station on the East-West Corridor of the Orange Line of Chennai Metro in Chennai, India. This metro station will be among the 30 stations of Corridor IV and 12 underground stations along Corridor IV of the Chennai Metro, Poonamallee Bypass–Lighthouse stretch. This metro station is slated to be commercialized on Marcb 2027.

Church of Our Lady of Light (Tamil: பிரகாச மாதா ஆலயம்) is a Roman Catholic shrine in Chennai, India. It is commonly called as Luz Church by the locals, which derives from the Portuguese name Nossa Senhora da Luz. Built in 1516 by the Portuguese, it is one of the oldest Churches in the city and its foundation stone marks as one of the oldest European monuments in India. The history of the church dates back to the 16th-century legend of safe arrival to land by missionaries. The church is located very near to the Santhome Basilica, where Apostle Thomas is believed to be buried. Although at the time the church was built, the locality was a thick forest, now it is part of a bustling metropolitan area. This 16th-century European-architecture building consists of patterns of Gothic arches and Baroque ornamentation. The feast of Our Lady of Light is celebrated on 15 August every year. On 15 August 2010, Church of Our Lady of Light was declared Shrine of Our Lady of Light by A. M. Chinnappa, Archbishop of Madras-Mylapore.

Alwarpet is a residential zone in central Chennai and is a part of the greater Teynampet region. It is surrounded by Teynampet in the north and east, Mylapore, Mandavelli and Abhiramapuram in the east, Raja Annamalaipuram in the south, Nandanam in the south-west. Alwarpet is home to the actor Kamal Haasan, which he acknowledged in his song 'Alwarpetta Aandava Vettiya pottu thaandava' from the movie Vasool Raja MBBS. Chennai Super Kings owner and India Cements Managing Director, N. Srinivasan resides in Alwarpet (Boat Club) too. This residential area is situated just adjacent to Poes Garden, which is home to two of the most important personalities of Chennai, actor Rajnikanth and the late Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu J. Jayalalitha. The Boat Club Road adjoining Alwarpet and Raja Annamalaipuram is the third most expensive locality in India and the most expensive in South India.

Descanco Church is a church in the neighbourhood of Mylapore in Chennai, India. It was built in the 17th century by the Portuguese nobleman, Cosmo Madera of the prominent Madera family who are believed to have given their name to the city of Madras. Descanco Church is built in one of the two spots where the apostle St. Thomas is believed to have preached. Descanco Church is situated at a distance of two kilometres from Luz Church.
