Stoke Woods

The River Culm flows through the Devon Redlands in Devon, England and is the longest tributary of the River Exe. It rises in the Blackdown Hills at a spring near RAF Culmhead in Somerset, and flows west through Hemyock, then Culmstock (in the Culm Valley) to Uffculme. The river turns south, through Cullompton (and alongside the M5 motorway), skirting the northern boundary of Killerton Park to join the River Exe on the north-western outskirts of Exeter. The name of the river is thought to mean 'knot' or 'tie', in reference to the river's twists and loops.

Stoke Hill is a large hill rising to the north of Exeter in Devon, England. It is significant as the site of both an Iron Age hill fort and a later Roman signal station. The hill fort is situated slightly below and northeast of the Roman signal station, putting it in a better position to have sight of a number of other hill forts simultaneously. It is at an elevation of approximately 145 metres (476 ft) above sea level. The signal station is at the highest point of the hill, 159 metres (522 ft) above sea level. Stoke Hill is also the name of a northern suburb of Exeter, at grid reference SX934943.

Brampford Speke ( BRAM-fərdz-beek) is a small village in Devon, 4 miles (6 km) to the north of Exeter. The population is 419. It is located on red sandstone cliffs overlooking the river Exe. Its sister village of Upton Pyne lies to its southwest, and Stoke Canon is across the river, to the east. To the south is the hamlet of Cowley with its chapel of ease, which was formerly part of the ecclesiastical parish of Brampford Speke. Brampford Speke has a Church of England parish church dedicated to St Peter. There is a primary school in the heart of the village near the river Exe, which was built as a national school in 1867. A baptist chapel was built near the school in 1894. The village also has a corner shop/tea room and a local pub, the Agricultural Inn (formerly the Lazy Toad). The village contains a number of fine houses, including the former landowner's Brampford House in the centre of the village and some traditional cob and thatch cottages and farmhouses.

Pynes House is a Grade II* listed Queen Anne style country house built by Hugh Stafford between around 1700 and 1725, situated in the parish of Upton Pyne, Devon, 3 miles northwest of Exeter. It was the manor house for the Manor of Upton Pyne, which included the village of Upton Pyne.

St Sidwell's is an area east of Exeter city centre in the ward of Newtown. Formerly a village in its own right, St Sidwell's grew in importance along with Exeter thanks to its location on the main cart track between Exeter and the high ground of Stoke Hill and the rich farmland of East Devon.

Stoke Canon is a small village and civil parish near the confluence of the rivers Exe and Culm on the main A396 between Exeter and Tiverton in the English county of Devon, and the district of East Devon. At the 2001 census it had a population of 660. The population was unchanged in 2011 but the village forms the major part of the Exe Valley electoral ward. The population of this ward was 2,041 at the 2011 Census.There is a pub, The Stoke Canon Inn, and a post office and general stores in the centre of the village.

Pennsylvania is a suburb situated on the high ground to the north of the city of Exeter in the county of Devon, England. It lies between the ancient deer park of Duryard and Stoke Hill. It was named after the US state by Joseph Sparkes, a Quaker banker who built the first terrace, Pennsylvania Park, in about 1821. Its southern slopes, nearest to the city, include many spacious late Victorian and Edwardian houses, while on the steep higher hills, heading north out of Exeter, the housing is mainly 1920s–1970s, with a few newer estates on the city's extremities. Its proximity within walking distance of Exeter University has made it popular with academics and students. J. K. Rowling was a resident of Pennsylvania while a student at Exeter University in the late 1980s.

The County Ground is a cricket ground in Exeter, Devon. The earliest recorded match on the ground was in 1889 between the Gentlemen of Devon and Somerset. In 1902, Devon played their first Minor Counties Championship match on the ground, which was against Wiltshire. From 1902 to 1987, the ground played host to 148 Minor Counties Championship matches and a single MCCA Knockout Trophy match between Devon and Oxfordshire in 1984. The ground hosted its first Minor Counties match in 23 years in May 2010, when Devon played Wales Minor Counties.The ground has hosted two first-class matches, the first of which came in 1927, when the West played the touring New Zealanders. The second and final first-class match played on the ground came the following year, when a combined Minor Counties cricket team played the touring West Indians.The only List-A match played on the ground came in the 1980 Gillette Cup between Devon and Cornwall, which Devon won by 145 runs. In local domestic cricket, the County Ground is the home of Exeter Cricket Club who play in the Tolchards Drinks-sponsored Devon Cricket League. The club has played on the ground since 1902, when it became tenants of Devon CCC. Previously the club's home ground was at Grâs Lawn. The Devon Dumplings, a wandering club with no fixed abode, has hired the County Ground on a regular basis since its formation in 1902.

The Exeter City AFC Supporters' Society, known commonly as the Exeter City Supporters' Trust and abbreviated as ECFCST, or simply The Trust; is a supporters' trust consisting of fans of Exeter City, an English professional football club based in Exeter. It is the majority shareholder of Exeter City, controlling 53.6% of the voting shares in the club. Since taking control, the Trust has handed over more than £1.75 million to the club.

St James Park is a football stadium in Exeter and is the home of Exeter City FC. The stadium is served by the St James Park railway station, which is right next to the ground (the line runs behind the grandstand). It has been adopted by the club who contribute to its upkeep, under the community rail scheme, and its railings have been painted in the red and white of Exeter's strip. The capacity of St James Park following completion of a £3.4 million redevelopment project is 8,219. The record attendance is 20,984, who watched Exeter lose 4–2 to Sunderland in an FA Cup Sixth Round Replay in 1931.

The University of Exeter is a research university in the West Country of England, with its main campus in Exeter, Devon. Its predecessor institutions, St Luke's College, Exeter School of Science, Exeter School of Art, and the Camborne School of Mines were established in 1838, 1855, 1863, and 1888 respectively. These institutions later formed the University of Exeter after receiving its royal charter in 1955. In post-nominals, the University of Exeter is abbreviated as Exon. (from the Latin Exoniensis), and is the suffix given to honorary and academic degrees from the university. The university has four campuses: Streatham and St Luke's (both of which are in Exeter); and Truro and Penryn (both of which are in Cornwall). The university is primarily located in the city of Exeter, where it is the principal higher education institution. Streatham is the largest campus containing many of the university's administrative buildings. The Penryn campus is maintained in conjunction with Falmouth University under the Combined Universities in Cornwall (CUC) initiative. The Exeter Streatham Campus Library holds more than 1.2 million physical library resources, including historical journals and special collections.The annual income of the institution for 2022–23 was £633.5 million of which £118.7 million was from research grants and contracts, with an expenditure of £604.0 million.It was one of the pre-WW2 local university colleges granted university status in the 1950s, as part of the second wave of civic universities. In 2012, Exeter joined the Russell Group of research-intensive UK universities. It is also a member of Universities UK, the European University Association, and the Association of Commonwealth Universities and an accredited institution of the Association of MBAs (AMBA).

Exmouth Junction is the railway junction where the Exmouth branch line diverges from the London Waterloo to Exeter main line in Exeter, Devon, England. It was for many years the location for one of the largest engine sheds in the former London and South Western Railway. The sidings served the railway's concrete casting factory as well as a goods yard.
