16th federal electoral district of the State of Mexico

The 10th federal electoral district of the State of Mexico (Spanish: Distrito electoral federal 10 del Estado de México) is one of the 300 electoral districts into which Mexico is divided for elections to the federal Chamber of Deputies and one of 40 such districts in the State of Mexico. It elects one deputy to the lower house of Congress for each three-year legislative session by means of the first-past-the-post system. Votes cast in the district also count towards the calculation of proportional representation ("plurinominal") deputies elected from the fifth region.

Ecatepec (Spanish: [ekateˈpek] (listen)), officially Ecatepec de Morelos, is a municipality in the State of Mexico. The municipal seat is San Cristóbal Ecatepec. The city is practically co-extensive with the municipality, comprising 99% of the total municipal population of 1,645,352. It is Mexico's fourth most-populous municipality after Tijuana, León and Puebla, and the most populated suburb of Greater Mexico City. The name "Ecatepec" is derived from Nahuatl, and means "windy hill" or "hill devoted to Ehecatl." It was also an alternative name or invocation to Quetzalcoatl. "Morelos" is the last name of José María Morelos, a hero of the Mexican War of Independence. Saint Christopher is the city's patron saint, celebrated on July 25.The Mexico City metro subway system extends into Ecatepec. Points of interest include the newest Catholic Cathedral in Mexico, Sagrado Corazón de Jesús, several colonial era churches, and the Morelos Museum in "Casa de los Virreyes".

The Sacred Heart of Jesus Cathedral (Spanish: Catedral del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús), also Ecatepec Cathedral, is the main Catholic church and seat of the Diocese of Ecatepec in Mexico. It is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. It is located in the municipality of Ecatepec, in the State of Mexico. It was inaugurated in March 1999 in the neighborhood of San Cristóbal. Its construction, begun on January 6, 1998, is modernist, similar to that of the Basilica of Guadalupe, simulating a tent for pilgrims. More than 70 churches are dependent on this diocese. On Sundays, as in all Catholic churches, Masses are celebrated, accompanied by musical groups such as students, musicians and vocalists such as the music ministry Sabath and even Mariachi, which incidentally gives a folk form to this religious act.

The Puente Ingeniero Ernesto Uriegas, best known as the Puente de Fierro (English: Iron Bridge), is a twin-span bridge found along Vía Morelos Avenue, in San Cristóbal, Ecatepec de Morelos, State of Mexico. The bridge was built to cross the Gran Canal del Desagüe (Grand Sewage Canal) that surrounds Mexico City. The origins of the construction of the bridge tend to differ depending on the source as there are few records of the bridge beyond undated pictures. One of the stories says that it was completed in 1896 to be operated by the National Railroad Company. There is also a persistent legend about its origins that mentions that Gustave Eiffel, at the request of president Porfirio Díaz, designed the bridge in the 1870s. It was later adapted into a provisional vehicle bridge and eventually replaced with an adjacent larger vehicular bridge. In 2000, the local government remodeled the space into a museum, which would last 16 years. Since then, the bridge has been abandoned and has received partial maintenance.

On 7 May 2013, a tanker truck carrying liquefied petroleum gas lost control and ran into several cars and houses before it exploded on Federal Highway 85 in San Pedro Xalostoc community in Ecatepec de Morelos, Mexico. 27 people were killed and more than 30 injured as a result of the accident. The resulting fires damaged 45 homes and 16 vehicles.

Coacalco de Berriozábal (Spanish pronunciation ; simply known as Coacalco) is one of 125 municipalities in the State of Mexico, Mexico. The municipal seat is the city of San Francisco Coacalco. The municipality lies in the Greater Mexico City conurbation, north of Mexico City. The municipal seat is San Francisco Coacalco and the municipality is named after Felipe Berriozábal (1829–1900), a Mexican politician and military leader. The word Coacalco comes from the Nahuatl coatl (snake), calli (home) and -co (at), meaning "at the house of the snake", a name that was first recorded in 1320.

It elects one deputy to the lower house of Congress for each three-year legislative session by means of the first-past-the-post system. Votes cast in the district also count towards the calculation of proportional representation ("plurinominal") deputies elected from the fifth region. Suspended in 1930, the 17th district was re-created by the 1977 electoral reforms, which increased the number of single-member seats in the Chamber of Deputies from 196 to 300. Under that plan, the State of Mexico's seat allocation rose from 15 to 34. The new districts were first contended in the 1979 mid-term election.
