The First Battle of Cholet took place during the War in the Vendée on 15 March 1793 in which the city of Cholet was captured by the Vendée insurgents.

Cholet (French: [ʃɔlɛ] , local pronunciation: [ʃɔ(ː)ɫe], probably from Latin cauletum, "cabbage") is a commune of western France, in the Maine-et-Loire department. With 54,307 inhabitants (2019), it is the second most populous commune of Maine-et-Loire, after the prefecture, Angers.

La Meilleraie (French pronunciation: [la mɛjʁɛ]) is an indoor sporting arena located in the city of Cholet, Maine-et-Loire, France. The arena is part of a larger expo and events center called Le Parc des Expositions de la Meilleraie, which is divided into several sections. The sports arena constitutes the "Red Zone" of the complex.The capacity of the arena is 5,191 people. It is currently home to the Cholet Basket basketball team. The building opened in 1987 and was renovated in 2009 at a cost of €250,000.

The Agglomération du Choletais, also simply known as CAC, is the intercommunal structure gathering the city of Cholet and its suburbs. It is located in the Maine-et-Loire département, in the Pays de la Loire région (France). It was formed on 1 January 2017 by the merger of the former Communauté d'agglomération du Choletais, the Communauté de communes du Bocage and the Communauté de communes du Vihiersois-Haut-Layon. Its area is 788.0 km2. Its population was 104,382 in 2018, of which 54,186 in Cholet proper.

Saint-Léger-sous-Cholet (French pronunciation: [sɛ̃ leʒe su ʃɔlɛ] , literally Saint-Léger under Cholet) is a commune in the Maine-et-Loire department in western France.

The battle of La Tremblaye (15 October 1793), part of the war in the Vendée, took place near Cholet, and was a Republican victory over the Vendéens.
