Canelas is a parish in the Vila Nova de Gaia Municipality, Portugal. The total population in 2011 was 13,459, in an area of 6.90 km².

Mafamude e Vilar do Paraíso is a civil parish in the municipality of Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal. It was formed in 2013 by the merger of the former parishes Mafamude and Vilar do Paraíso. The population in 2011 was 52,422, in an area of 10.58 km².

Santo Ovídio is a light rail station on line D of the Porto Metro system in Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal. The station is situated underground, below the junction between Av. da República, R. de Soares dos Reis, R. Conceição Fernandes and R. António Rodrigues Rocha. To the north the line runs in the centre of Av. da República, whist to the south it climbs onto an elevated structure. Santo Ovídio station opened, along with the extension of line D from its previous terminus at D. João II, on 15 October 2011. It served as the terminus of line D until 28 June 2024, when the line was further extended to Vila d'Este. Plans were announced in 2022 to build a new line of the Porto Metro (line H) to connect Santo Ovídio to Casa da Música on lines A, B, C, E and F. The construction is planned to start by the end of 2023 and to be completed by the end of 2026. The station is preceded by D. João II and followed by Manuel Leão. To the north of Santo Ovídio, towards Porto, trains run every 5 to 6 minutes, declining to every 10 minutes on weekends and evenings. Alternate trains from the north still terminate at Santo Ovídio, meaning that towards Vila d'Este trains run every 10 to 12 minutes, declining to every 20 minutes on weekends and evenings. The underground station has two tracks, served by two side platforms. Access to the street is by a stairs, escalators, lifts and ramps.

Perosinho is a former civil parish in the municipality of Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal. In 2013, the parish merged into the new parish Serzedo e Perosinho. The population in 2011 was 6,359, in an area of 5.29 km².

Vilar do Paraíso is a former civil parish in the municipality of Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal. In 2013, the parish merged into the new parish Mafamude e Vilar do Paraíso. The population in 2011 was 13,878, in an area of 5.30 km².

Oliveira do Douro is a Portuguese parish in the municipality of Vila Nova de Gaia. The population in 2011 was 22,383, in an area of 7.54 km².

Câmara de Gaia is a light rail station on line D of the Porto Metro system in the municipality of Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal. It is situated on the Avenida da República adjacent to the Gaia City Hall, from which it takes its name. The initial section of line D, including Câmara de Gaia station, opened on 17 September 2005, with trains initially running to Pólo Universitário to the north. Câmara de Gaia was the southern terminus until 27 May 2008, when the line was extended to D. João II. The line has since been extended from D. João II to Vila d’Este, and from Pólo Universitário to Hospital de São João. The station is preceded by General Torres and followed by João de Deus stations. On weekdays, trains run every five to six minutes, declining to every 10 minutes on weekends and evenings. The station platforms are on the surface, and there are two through tracks, each served by a side platform. The platforms are directly accessible from the Avenida da República.

The Vila Nova de Gaia Municipal Chamber (Portuguese: Câmara Municipal de Vila Nova de Gaia) is the administrative authority in the municipality of Vila Nova de Gaia. It has 15 freguesias in its area of jurisdiction and is based in the city of Vila Nova de Gaia, on the Porto District. These freguesias are: Arcozelo, Avintes, Canelas, Canidelo, Grijó e Sermonde, Gulpilhares e Valadares, Madalena, Mafamude e Vilar do Paraíso, Oliveira do Douro, Pedroso e Seixezelo, Sandim, Olival, Lever e Crestuma, Santa Marinha e São Pedro da Afurada, São Félix da Marinha, Serzedo e Perosinho and Vilar de Andorinho. The Vila Nova de Gaia City Council is made up of 11 councillors, representing, currently, two different political forces. The first candidate on the list with the most votes in a municipal election or, in the event of a vacancy, the next candidate on the list, takes office as President of the Municipal Chamber.

The initial section of line D, including General Torres station, opened on 17 September 2005, with trains initially running between Câmara de Gaia, to the south, and Pólo Universitário to the north. The line has since been extended from Câmara de Gaia to Vila d’Este, and from Pólo Universitário to Hospital de São João. The station is preceded by Jardim do Morro and followed by Câmara de Gaia stations. On weekdays, trains run every five to six minutes, declining to every 10 minutes on weekends and evenings. The station platforms are on the surface, and there are two through tracks, each served by a side platform. The platforms are directly accessible from the Avenida da República.

General Torres railway station is a station on the Linha do Norte, a railway line that connects the cities of Lisbon and Porto in Portugal. It is situated in the municipality of Vila Nova de Gaia, next to the Rua General Torres that gives it its name. The station is principally served by suburban trains of the Porto network of CP Urban Services. General Torres railway station is some 100 metres (330 ft) from the General Torres station on the Porto Metro light rail line D.
