Park Fire

Bidwell Park is a municipal park located in Chico, California. The park was established July 10, 1905, through the donation by Annie Bidwell, widow of Chico's founder, John Bidwell, of approximately 2,500 acres (1,000 hectares) of land to the City of Chico. Since that time, the city has purchased additional land, such as Cedar Grove in 1922, and 1,200 acres (490 ha) of land south of Big Chico Creek in upper Bidwell Park in 1995. As of 2009, the total park size is 3,670 acres (1,490 ha), nearly 11 miles (18 km) in length, making it the third largest municipal park in California and is one of the largest city parks in the United States.Bidwell Park is divided by Manzanita Avenue. The area west of Manzanita Avenue is referred to as Lower Park and the area to the east is referred to as Middle and Upper Park. Middle Park extends from Manzanita to a point roughly equal to the upstream edge of the Chico Municipal Golf Course. The Upper/Middle and Lower Parks have differing terrain. Upper Park is located in the foothills of the southernmost Cascades. It has steep terrain and shallow soils, and contains many rock formations, including the unique Chico Formation sandstone, Lovejoy Basalt, and Tuscan Formation rocks. Lower Park is flat and level with a deep soil structure supporting a thick canopy of trees which provide ample shade for visitors. Special rules apply in the Upper Park and the road is unpaved for much of its length.

The Chico Community Observatory, also known as the Anita Ingrao Observatory, is a non-profit astronomical observatory owned and operated by Kiwanis Club of Greater Chico. It is located in Chico, California's upper Bidwell Park. Entrance to the observatory is free as the facility operates on donations and volunteers.

Butte Regional Transit (d/b/a B-Line) is a public transit system which provides bus service in the communities of Biggs, Chico, Gridley, Magalia, Oroville, Palermo, Paradise and across Butte County, California. B-Line is the consolidation of CATS in Chico, OATS in Oroville and BCT in Butte County.

Stilson Canyon is a small gorge at the base of the Sierra Nevada in Butte County, California. Little Chico Creek which serves as the dividing line between the Sierra Nevada mountain range and the Cascade Range flows through it and passes by a small community of homes built along a portion of the canyon.

Pleasant Valley High School (commonly referred to as Pleasant Valley) is a public co-educational and comprehensive high school located in Chico, California teaching ninth grade through twelfth grade. It is the second largest school in the Chico Unified School District, which serves around 13,909 students.

Butte Creek Canyon is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Butte County, California. Butte Creek Canyon sits at an elevation of 1024 feet (312 m) in the Sierra Nevada foothills. The 2010 United States census reported Butte Creek Canyon's population was 1,086. In November 2018, the Camp Fire destroyed a large portion of the town.

Richardson Springs (formerly, Mud Springs) is an unincorporated community in Butte County, California. It is located on Mud Creek 8.5 miles (13.7 km) north-northeast of Chico, at an elevation of 620 feet (189 m). The place is named for J.H. and Lee Richardson, who founded mineral spas here in 1898. A post office was opened in 1933.

Chico Marketplace (formerly Chico Mall) is an enclosed shopping mall in Chico, California, United States. Opened in 1988, it features JCPenney, Dick's Sporting Goods and At Home as its anchor stores, with Burlington, HomeGoods, Petco, Boot Barn and Planet Fitness as junior anchors.

KPAY (1290 AM) is a sports formatted radio station in Northern California. The station can be heard in Butte County, California, and parts of Tehama County, Glenn County, and Colusa County. The station's transmitter power is 5,000 watts and is located in Chico, California. The station is owned by Deer Creek Broadcasting, LLC. KPAY is a radio affiliate of Fox Sports Radio, also covering north valley sports, including Chico State Wildcat Athletics (baseball, basketball), the NFL, MLB, Warriors, Oakland A's and Butte Community College Football.

Hooker Oak was an extremely large valley oak tree (Quercus lobata) in Chico, California. Amateur botanist and local socialite Annie Bidwell, whose husband had founded Chico, named the tree in 1887 after English botanist and Director of the Royal Botanical Gardens Sir Joseph Dalton Hooker. It was featured in the 1938 film The Adventures of Robin Hood starring Errol Flynn. The tree fell in 1977, and portions of it were later milled for use by local artisans.

Honey Run Covered Bridge was a wooden covered bridge crossing Butte Creek, in Butte County, northern California in the United States. It was located on Honey Run Road at Centerville Road, about halfway in between Chico and Paradise, until it was destroyed in the Camp Fire on November 8, 2018.

The 2013 IFMAR 1:10 Electric Off-Road World Championships was the fifteenth edition of the IFMAR - 1:10 Electric Off-Road World Championship was held in America. The track is located at Silver Dollar Fairgrounds and is on a large purpose built 150’×110’ dirt track.
