The California Capitol Christmas Tree (known as the California Capitol Holiday Tree between 1999 and 2003) is an annually erected decorated tree outside the California State Capitol in Sacramento, California, United States. Initiated in 1931, the tree has been a tradition ever since and is decorated during the second week of December each year. In December 1999, during his first Christmas season in office, Governor Gray Davis changed the name of the tree to the California Capitol Holiday Tree, a spokesperson describing this as a name that "more accurately symbolizes the diversity of what the holidays are in California". After the 2003 California recall, Gray Davis was replaced with Arnold Schwarzenegger, who changed the name back from the Christmas of 2004. A similar occurrence took place with the Capitol Christmas Tree in Washington, DC, which took on the "holiday" generic name from 1999–2005.

The California State Library is the state library of the State of California, founded in 1850 by the California State Legislature. The Library collects, preserves, generates and disseminates a wide array of information. Today, it is the central reference and research library for state government and the Legislature. The California State Library advises, consults with and provides technical assistance to California's public libraries. It directs state and federal funds to support local public libraries and statewide library programs, including Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) grants. The California State Library's mission is to serve as "...the state’s information hub, preserving California’s cultural heritage and connecting people, libraries and government to the resources and tools they need to succeed and to build a strong California." With the exception of the Sutro Library in the J. Paul Leonard Library at San Francisco State University, the other three branches are located in Sacramento, California, at 914 Capitol Mall, 900 N Street and at the State Capitol.

The Sutter Club is a historic building located in Sacramento, California constructed in 1930 in a Spanish Eclectic style. It was recognized as a Sacramento landmark in 1982. Designed by local architecture firms Dean & Dean and Starks & Flanders, it draws from Mediterranean and Spanish architectural styles. The Sutter Club was formed in 1889 to provide a social outlet for successful Sacramento merchants and professional men. The club is among the oldest social clubs in California.

The California State Senate is the upper house of the California State Legislature, the lower house being the California State Assembly. The State Senate convenes, along with the State Assembly, at the California State Capitol in Sacramento. Due to a combination of the state's large population and a legislature that has not been expanded since the ratification of the 1879 Constitution, the State Senate has the largest population per state senator ratio of any state legislative house. In the United States House of Representatives, California is apportioned 53 U.S. representatives, each representing approximately 704,566 people, while in the California State Senate, each of the 40 state senators represents approximately 931,349 people. This means that California state senators each represent more people than California's members of the House of Representatives. In the current legislative session, the Democratic Party holds 32 out of the 40 seats, which constitutes a 80% majority, well over the two-thirds supermajority threshold.

The California State Capitol is the seat of the California state government, located in Sacramento, the state capital of California. The building houses the chambers of the California State Legislature, made up of the Assembly and the Senate, along with the office of the governor of California. The Neoclassical structure, designed by Reuben S. Clark, was completed between 1861 and 1874. Located at the west end of Capitol Park and the east end of the Capitol Mall, the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. The California State Capitol Museum is housed on the grounds of the capitol.

The Hotel Lenhart located in Sacramento, California is a historic hotel designed in the Italian Renaissance Revival style by architect Seadler & Hoen. Originally two separate buildings, they were conjoined in 1933 and it became one of Sacramento's leading hotels. It operated as the Capitol Park Hotel from 1966 until 2024, when it reopened for permanent homeless housing, known as the Saint Clare at Capitol Park.

The California State Legislature is a bicameral state legislature consisting of a lower house, the California State Assembly, with 80 members; and an upper house, the California State Senate, with 40 members. Both houses of the Legislature convene at the California State Capitol in Sacramento. The California state legislature is one of just ten full-time state legislatures in the United States. The houses are distinguished by the colors of the carpet and trim of each house. The Senate is distinguished by red and the Assembly by the color green, inspired by the House of Lords and House of Commons respectively.The Democratic Party currently holds veto-proof supermajorities in both houses of the California State Legislature. The Assembly consists of 62 Democrats and 18 Republicans, while the Senate is composed of 32 Democrats and 8 Republicans. Except for a brief period from 1995 to 1996, the Assembly has been in Democratic hands since the 1970 election. The Senate has been under continuous Democratic control since 1970.

The Assembly convenes, along with the State Senate, at the California State Capitol in Sacramento. The Assembly consists of 80 members, with each member representing at least 465,000 people. Due to a combination of the state's large population and a legislature that has not been expanded since the ratification of the 1879 Constitution, the Assembly has the largest population-per-representative ratio of any state lower house and second largest of any legislative lower house in the United States after the federal House of Representatives. Members of the California State Assembly are generally referred to using the titles Assemblyman (for men), Assemblywoman (for women), or Assemblymember (gender-neutral). In the current legislative session, Democrats enjoy a three-fourths supermajority of 62 seats, while Republicans control a minority of 18 seats.

The California State Capitol Museum consists of a museum in and grounds around the California State Capitol in Sacramento, California, United States. The building has been the home of the California State Legislature since 1869. The State Capitol Museum has been a property in the California State Parks system since 1982.

1021 O Street is a 10-story office building located in downtown Sacramento, two blocks south of the California State Capitol. Currently known as the Capitol Annex Swing Space, the building was built to house offices for the California State Legislature, the Governor of California, and other state officials during the replacement of the Capitol Annex, a 1952 office building attached to the east side of the Capitol. Prior to construction, the site was a parking lot. The Legislature authorized the project in 2018. Completion was in 2021, and offices were moved in December 2021 after the end of the 2021 legislative session, with the building opening to the public in January 2022. Compared to the old Annex, the Swing Space has larger offices, and is also more energy efficient, being designed to meet zero net carbon and zero net energy standards.The building contains hearing rooms on the first two floors, offices for Assemblymembers and State Senators on floors 3–8, and offices of the Governor and other statewide executive elected officials on floors 9–10. The building is open to the public, however, only three of the elevators (which use destination dispatch are available for public use, with the other three reserved for elected officials.

Frank Fat's is an American Chinese cuisine restaurant in Sacramento, California founded in 1939 by a Chinese immigrant who called himself "Frank Fat" and who came to the United States illegally in 1919. The original restaurant is one of four now owned by the Fat family.Frank Fat's celebrated its 80th anniversary in 2019, and is the oldest restaurant still operating in Sacramento. The restaurant has a long-standing reputation as a place where influential California politicians come to drink, dine and negotiate with lobbyists in private, and it also serves a well-known banana cream pie. The restaurant has won two major culinary awards.
