Glencar, County Kerry

Lough Acoose is a freshwater lake in the southwest of Ireland. It is located on the Iveragh Peninsula of County Kerry near the MacGillycuddy's Reeks mountains.

Caragh Lake (Irish: Loch Cárthaí), also Lough Caragh, is a lake in the Reeks District in County Kerry, Ireland. The lake was formed by the damming of the Caragh River.Caragh Lake railway station was on the Great Southern and Western Railway line which ran from Farranfore to Valentia Harbour.

The River Caragh (Irish: Abhainn Chárthaí) is a river in County Kerry in southwestern Ireland. The river has a catchment area of about 66 square miles (170 km2), comes under the protection of a Special Area of Conservation ("Killarney National Park, MacGillycuddy's Reeks and Caragh River Catchment"). The rare Kerry Slug is known to have been identified in the area.

The Kerry Bog Village is an open-air museum situated in west County Kerry focused on the culture and history of Ireland. It is a tourist stop on the Ring of Kerry, between the towns of Killorglin and Glenbeigh. The outdoor museum recreates traditional Irish thatched cottages and the lives of their inhabitants during the 19th century. Its founder was involved in the resuscitation of the Kerry Bog Pony as a viable breed.The village's operators describe the village as the "only one of its kind in Europe", and its structures are furnished with antiques.

Glenbeigh/Glencar G.A.A Club is a Gaelic Athletic Association club from the small village of Glenbeigh, near Killorglin in County Kerry.

Glenbeigh or Glanbehy (Irish: Gleann Beithe) is a village and civil parish on the Iveragh peninsula in County Kerry, Ireland. The parish includes Rossbeigh beach, Coomasahran Lake and a number of important rock art sites. Owing to its natural heritage, history and its location on both the Ring of Kerry and Wild Atlantic Way, Glenbeigh is a tourist destination. The village is surrounded by a horseshoe of hills and the Seefin Mountains. The Caragh and Behy rivers flow at either side of the village into Castlemaine Harbour.

Lough Yganavan and Lough Nambrackdarrig (Irish: Loch Gaineamháin agus Loch na mBreac Dearg) are two lakes of ecological importance in County Kerry, Ireland. In 1988, Lough Nambrackdarrig and the southern half of Lough Yganavan were designated as National Nature Reserves (areas in ha: 3.9 & 25.3). Since 1998, the lakes have been included in a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) of 271.6 hectares (3 km2), which protects land in private ownership and the two state-owned nature reserves. The habitats in the SAC include fixed dunes, a type of machair.

The Bones (Irish: Na Cnámha), at 957 metres (3,140 ft) high, is the seventh-highest peak in Ireland on the Arderin list, or the eighth-highest according to the Vandeleur-Lynam list. It is part of the MacGillycuddy's Reeks in County Kerry, and is a small sharp peak on the dramatic Beenkeragh Ridge, and is sometimes mistaken with The Bone, the north-east spur of Maolán Buí, which descends into the Hag's Glen.

Beenkeragh or Benkeeragh (Irish: Binn Chaorach, meaning "mountain of sheep") is the second-highest peak in Ireland, at 1,008.2 metres (3,308 ft), on both the Arderin and Vandeleur-Lynam lists. It is part of the MacGillycuddy's Reeks range in County Kerry. Beenkeragh also gives its name the infamous Beenkeragh Ridge, the narrow rocky arete between Beenkeragh and Carrauntoohil, Ireland's highest mountain.

Carrauntoohil, Carrauntoohill or Carrantuohill ( KARR-ən-TOO-əl; Irish: Corrán Tuathail [ˌkɔɾˠaːn̪ˠ ˈt̪ˠuəhəlʲ], meaning "Tuathal's sickle") is the highest mountain in Ireland at 1,038.6 metres (3,407 feet 6 inches). It is on the Iveragh Peninsula in County Kerry, close to the centre of Ireland's highest mountain range, MacGillycuddy's Reeks. Carrauntoohil is composed mainly of sandstone, whose glaciation produced distinctive features on the mountain such as the Eagle's Nest corrie and some deep gullies and sharp arêtes in its east and northeastern faces that are popular with rock and winter climbers. As Ireland's highest mountain, Carrauntoohil is popular with mountain walkers, who most commonly ascend via the Devil's Ladder route; however, Carrauntoohil is also climbed as part of longer mountain walking routes in the MacGillycuddy's Reeks range, including the 15-kilometre (9+1⁄2 mi) Coomloughra Horseshoe or the 26-kilometre (16 mi) MacGillycuddy's Reeks Ridge Walk of the entire mountain range. Carrauntoohil, and most of the range is held in private ownership and is not part of any Irish national park; however, reasonable access is granted to the public for recreational use.

Réalt na Mara, Cromane, is a Gaelic Athletic Association club from the fishing village of Cromane, eight miles west of Killorglin in County Kerry, Ireland. Cromane play football in maroon and white colours. The club fields teams from under-8 to senior level. The club's name is derived from the village's church, also called Réalt na Mara (Star of the Sea in English). The local national school also carries the same name. There was a club in Cromane in the mid-1950s. Indeed, in 1954, Pat O'Shea played for the Kerry minors as a Cromane player.

The South Kerry Greenway is a proposed greenway rail trail in County Kerry, Ireland. It is intended to be 27 kilometres (17 miles) long when completed and run from Glenbeigh to Cahersiveen. It is an off-road trail intended for use by cyclists and walkers along some of the route of the Farranfore–Valentia Harbour line, which opened 1893 and closed in 1960. The line was operated by the Great Southern and Western Railway. In July 2021, legal challenges against the greenway planning permissions and associated compulsory purchase orders, as well as environmental impacts, were dismissed. It was announced that leave to appeal applications and further challenges would be assessed in November 2021. On 15 October 2021, it was reported that planning permission to construct the greenway was upheld. By December 2021, Supreme Court proceedings had been initiated. On 8 February 2022, the Supreme Court rejected the applications seeking leave for appeal, and Kerry County Council announced that it could "now proceed with the construction of the greenway". As of May 2023 the greenway was under construction. As of December 2023, Kerry County Council proposed that a "main contractor" for the works would be appointed in mid-2024 and that the greenway could be completed by mid-2026. As of mid-2025, there were no plans to open any section before the end of 2025. Public consultation on the Cahersiveen to Reenard section began in October 2024.
