Clarach Bay

Afon Clarach (Welsh pronunciation: [ˈklaraχ]; also known as the River Clarach) is a small river discharging into Cardigan Bay north of Aberystwyth. It flows through a largely agricultural and forested landscape except in its lowest reaches where its banks are crowded with holiday developments. The Clarach is formed at the confluence of the Afon Stewi and Nant Seilo at Penrhyncoch, with both their headwaters originating in low hills at the edge of the Plynlimon range. The course of the river takes it past the Institute of Biological, Environmental and Rural Sciences (a part of Aberystwyth University), and the village of Bow Street. Between Bow Street and Llangorwen, the river is joined by the Bow Street Brook. In past centuries, the upper reaches of the river have been affected by lead and silver mining and the quality of the river has suffered as a result. There is some organic pollution from diffuse agricultural inputs and from the discharge of treated sewage from the Bow Street sewage treatment works. The river discharges into the sea over the beach at Clarach Bay thus limiting the population of migratory fish able to access the river. Consequently, Atlantic salmon and sea-trout are rare, however brown trout, brook lampreys, millers thumb and stone loach are commonly found. Glan-y-môr is a small village in the community of Tirymynach, Ceredigion, Wales, which is 76.4 miles (123 km) from Cardiff and 180 miles (289.7 km) from London. Glan-y-môr is represented in the Senedd by Elin Jones (Plaid Cymru) and the Member of Parliament is Ben Lake (Plaid Cymru).

Constitution Hill (Welsh: Craig-glais Welsh pronunciation: [krai̯ɡ glai̯s]) is a hill in the Welsh town of Aberystwyth, situated to the north of the town. The hill overlooks Cardigan Bay in Ceredigion, Wales, running between the town and the coastal settlements Borth and Clarach to the north. The site provides good views of the Aberystwyth, and the sightline extends as far as Snowdonia National Park and north Pembrokeshire.Since 1896, the Aberystwyth Cliff Railway has ascended to the hill's summit, and the summit features a camera obscura, which is a 1980s rebuild of a Victorian era building which was erected as part of the "Luna Park" recreation area. At its peak runs the Clarach Footpath on the Wales Coast Path, which connects the town of Aberystwyth with Clarach Bay. Nearby is the Borth – Clarach Site of Special Scientific Interest. The hill itself is often referred to as "Consti" by locals.

The Aberystwyth Cliff Railway (Welsh: Rheilffordd y Graig) opened on 1 August 1896. It is a 778 feet (237 m) long funicular railway in Aberystwyth and is the second longest funicular railway in the British Isles, after the Lynton and Lynmouth Cliff Railway. Since November 1987, the Aberystwyth Cliff Railway has been a Grade II listed structure. The Cliff Railway was developed as an element of Constitution Hill, a Victorian business venture by the Aberystwyth Improvement Company in the 1890s. The funicular took visitors to the top of the hill, where attractions such as a camera obscura were established. The cliff railway was originally a water balance system, but it was electrified during 1921. Passengers numbers were high during its initial decades, but dropped after the outbreak of the Second World War and stayed depressed for decades. The cliff railway is now owned and run by Constitution Hill Ltd, a registered charity. It is open to passengers during the summer months, typically operating between April and October, with a reduced timetable during the rest of the year.

Swyddfa'r Sir (Welsh for 'county office') is a Grade II listed former hotel, former main offices of Ceredigion County Council and former Magistrates Court building located in Aberystwyth, well known as the outside of the police station in the BBC Wales police television series Y Gwyll (Hinterland).

St Mary's College (Welsh: Coleg Mair) was a Roman Catholic seminary in Aberystwyth, Wales, in the United Kingdom. It was the only Roman Catholic diocesan seminary founded in Wales. Also, as it trained priests in the Welsh language, it was the only post-reformation Roman Catholic college of its kind. It was founded in 1904 in Holywell and moved to Aberystwyth in 1936. It was closed in 1970 and now houses the Welsh Books Council.

Aberystwyth Town Hall (Welsh: Neuadd y Dref Aberystwyth) is a municipal structure in Queen's Square, Aberystwyth, Wales. The structure, which was the headquarters of Aberystwyth Borough Council, has operated since 2012 as a public library and a pensioners' day centre.

The King's Hall was an entertainment venue located in Aberystwyth, Wales. It was built in 1934, designed in an Art Deco style by L.G. Mouchel and Partners, replacing the former Waterloo Hydro Hotel which had burnt down in 1919, The Kings Hall was later demolished in 1989.The building had a basement level, referred to as Palm Court, where in later years it had 'dodgems' and several amusements, a ground floor which contained the dancehall for bands and other performances, with capacity seating of 1,280, a cinema on the first floor, with seating for 280 and a rooftop garden. During its existence it hosted concerts by major music acts such as Led Zeppelin, Slade, Free and The Rolling Stones

Sarn Gynfelyn (or Sarn Cynfelyn) is a shingle spit on the coast of Cardigan Bay, in the county of Ceredigion, Mid-Wales, in the United Kingdom. It is located at Wallog, a few kilometres north of Llangorwen, close to Clarach Bay, south of Borth and north of the town of Aberystwyth. It extends, albeit with a single break, for a distance of 11km from the coast to a reef known as Patches or Caerwyddno.Similar landform examples are found at several points along the Cardigan Bay coast, known as sarnau. 'Sarn' (pluralised in Welsh as 'sarnau') is typically translated as 'causeway' or 'paved way'. These long banks which extend from the intertidal zone to the subtidal zone are thought to have originated as glacial moraines.

Penglais Nature Park (Welsh: Parc Natur Penglais) is a woodland situated in Aberystwyth, Ceredigion in Wales. The park is a combination of woodland and a disused quarry. Spring brings a display of a carpet of bluebells in common with the many other bluebell woods. Opened in 1995, it covers 27 acres (11 ha); it was the first Nature reserve to open in Ceredigion and is the only UNESCO Man and Biosphere urban reserve in Wales.

Elysian Grove (Welsh: Llwyn Afallon) is a street in the community and town of Aberystwyth, Ceredigion, Wales, which is 74 miles (119 km) from Cardiff. The area was built up in the 1930s. Prior to this, Elysian Grove, also known as Panglais Dingle, referred to an area on the lower slopes of Panglais Hill. It was well known as an entertainment venue, with an open air stage during the summer, mainly offering concerts and pierrot. There was also a pay-for-entry playground and woodland walks run by the Penglais Estate. Live outdoor entertainment began on the site in the late 1890s and continued until 1926. A contract for a 1,000-seat pavilion was tendered in 1908. and built by 1910. The remains of the stage, located slightly uphill of the start of Dan-Y-Coed, were still visible in the 1970s.

The Royal Pier, Aberystwyth is a pleasure pier located in Aberystwyth, Ceredigion, Wales. The first pier to open in Wales (1865), after a series of heavy storms it is now a much shortened version of its originally constructed length of 242 metres (794 ft).
