Constitution Hill, Aberystwyth

The Aberystwyth Cliff Railway (Welsh: Rheilffordd y Graig) opened on 1 August 1896. It is a 778 feet (237 m) long funicular railway in Aberystwyth and is the second longest funicular railway in the British Isles, after the Lynton and Lynmouth Cliff Railway. Since November 1987, the Aberystwyth Cliff Railway has been a Grade II listed structure. The Cliff Railway was developed as an element of Constitution Hill, a Victorian business venture by the Aberystwyth Improvement Company in the 1890s. The funicular took visitors to the top of the hill, where attractions such as a camera obscura were established. The cliff railway was originally a water balance system, but it was electrified during 1921. Passengers numbers were high during its initial decades, but dropped after the outbreak of the Second World War and stayed depressed for decades. The cliff railway is now owned and run by Constitution Hill Ltd, a registered charity. It is open to passengers during the summer months, typically operating between April and October, with a reduced timetable during the rest of the year.

Swyddfa'r Sir (Welsh for 'county office') is a Grade II listed former hotel, former main offices of Ceredigion County Council and former Magistrates Court building located in Aberystwyth, well known as the outside of the police station in the BBC Wales police television series Y Gwyll (Hinterland).

St Mary's College (Welsh: Coleg Mair) was a Roman Catholic seminary in Aberystwyth, Wales, in the United Kingdom. It was the only Roman Catholic diocesan seminary founded in Wales. Also, as it trained priests in the Welsh language, it was the only post-reformation Roman Catholic college of its kind. It was founded in 1904 in Holywell and moved to Aberystwyth in 1936. It was closed in 1970 and now houses the Welsh Books Council.

Aberystwyth Town Hall (Welsh: Neuadd y Dref Aberystwyth) is a municipal structure in Queen's Square, Aberystwyth, Wales. The structure, which was the headquarters of Aberystwyth Borough Council, has operated since 2012 as a public library and a pensioners' day centre.

The King's Hall was an entertainment venue located in Aberystwyth, Wales. It was built in 1934, designed in an Art Deco style by L.G. Mouchel and Partners, replacing the former Waterloo Hydro Hotel which had burnt down in 1919, The Kings Hall was later demolished in 1989.The building had a basement level, referred to as Palm Court, where in later years it had 'dodgems' and several amusements, a ground floor which contained the dancehall for bands and other performances, with capacity seating of 1,280, a cinema on the first floor, with seating for 280 and a rooftop garden. During its existence it hosted concerts by major music acts such as Led Zeppelin, Slade, Free and The Rolling Stones

Clarach Bay is a small bay on the coast of Ceredigion, Wales, to the north of Aberystwyth, where the Afon Clarach flows into the sea. It has given homes to the two main caravan parks of Clarach Bay Holiday Village and Glan Y Mor Leisure Park plus a few smaller ones for holiday makers, the coastal paths runs from Aberystwyth to Borth via Clarach.

The Royal Pier, Aberystwyth is a pleasure pier located in Aberystwyth, Ceredigion, Wales. The first pier to open in Wales (1865), after a series of heavy storms it is now a much shortened version of its originally constructed length of 242 metres (794 ft).

Afon Clarach (Welsh pronunciation: [ˈklaraχ]; also known as the River Clarach) is a small river discharging into Cardigan Bay north of Aberystwyth. It flows through a largely agricultural and forested landscape except in its lowest reaches where its banks are crowded with holiday developments. The Clarach is formed at the confluence of the Afon Stewi and Nant Seilo at Penrhyncoch, with both their headwaters originating in low hills at the edge of the Plynlimon range. The course of the river takes it past the Institute of Biological, Environmental and Rural Sciences (a part of Aberystwyth University), and the village of Bow Street. Between Bow Street and Llangorwen, the river is joined by the Bow Street Brook. In past centuries, the upper reaches of the river have been affected by lead and silver mining and the quality of the river has suffered as a result. There is some organic pollution from diffuse agricultural inputs and from the discharge of treated sewage from the Bow Street sewage treatment works. The river discharges into the sea over the beach at Clarach Bay thus limiting the population of migratory fish able to access the river. Consequently, Atlantic salmon and sea-trout are rare, however brown trout, brook lampreys, millers thumb and stone loach are commonly found. Aberystwyth (/ˌæbəˈrɪstwɪθ/; Welsh: [abɛˈrəstʊɨθ] ) is a university and seaside town and a community in Ceredigion, Wales. It is the largest town in Ceredigion and 16 miles (26 km) from Aberaeron, the county's administrative centre. In 2021, the population of the town was 14,640.Located in the historic county of Cardiganshire, Aberystwyth means "the mouth of the Ystwyth". It has been a major educational location in Wales since the establishment of University College Wales, now Aberystwyth University, in 1872. The town is situated on Cardigan Bay on the west coast of Wales, near the confluence of the River Ystwyth and Afon Rheidol. Following the reconstruction of the harbour, the Ystwyth skirts the town. The Rheidol passes through the town. The seafront, with a pier, stretches from Constitution Hill at the north end of the Promenade to the harbour at the south. The beach is divided by the castle. The town is divided into five areas: Aberystwyth Town; Llanbadarn Fawr; Waunfawr; Trefechan; and the most populous, Penparcau.

Aberystwyth railway station is located in the town of Aberystwyth, Ceredigion, Wales; it is served by passenger trains operated by Transport for Wales. It is the terminus of both the Cambrian Line (sited 81+1⁄2 miles (131.2 km) west of Shrewsbury) and of the narrow-gauge Vale of Rheidol Railway.

Laura Place, in the centre of Aberystwyth, Ceredigion, Wales is a terrace of mid-19th century townhouses. Pevsner considers them "the finest Georgian houses of the town". Laura Place forms two sides of a square, fronting the Church of St Michael and All Angels in the shadow of Aberystwyth Castle. It was developed in the early 19th century by William Edward Powell of Nanteos, High Sheriff and Lord Lieutenant of Cardiganshire. Powell's architect is uncertain, but Cadw suggests George Stanley Repton as a possibility. Repton was certainly the architect of the Assembly Rooms, a separate building standing between 1-9 and 11-12. The Assembly Rooms later became the first home of the National Library of Wales. The Place was named after Powell's first wife, Laura Edwyna Phelp, who died in 1822. No.s 1-9 inclusive, and No.s 11 and 12 Laura Place are Grade II* listed buildings. The Assembly Rooms are also Grade II*.

Elysian Grove (Welsh: Llwyn Afallon) is a street in the community and town of Aberystwyth, Ceredigion, Wales, which is 74 miles (119 km) from Cardiff. The area was built up in the 1930s. Prior to this, Elysian Grove, also known as Panglais Dingle, referred to an area on the lower slopes of Panglais Hill. It was well known as an entertainment venue, with an open air stage during the summer, mainly offering concerts and pierrot. There was also a pay-for-entry playground and woodland walks run by the Penglais Estate. Live outdoor entertainment began on the site in the late 1890s and continued until 1926. A contract for a 1,000-seat pavilion was tendered in 1908. and built by 1910. The remains of the stage, located slightly uphill of the start of Dan-Y-Coed, were still visible in the 1970s.
