Gawber

Pogmoor is an area of Barnsley in South Yorkshire, England. It is located to the west of the town centre, just north of junction 37 of the M1 motorway. As a centrally located suburb, situated close to the town centre, it is considered to be an affluent residential neighbourhood of Barnsley.

Originally used as landfill site for domestic waste, the land that is now known as Penny Pie Park is a large recreational playing field, open to the public .Now there is a large gyratory in most of the park. It is located in Pogmoor, Barnsley and is owned by the local council. The park is approximately 350 metres by 250 metres in size and is bordered by various vegetation, including sycamore, willow and horsechestnut trees. A railway separates its northern edge from another council field which is situated opposite. It contains multipurpose sports facilities and personal training fitness stations, as well as a vast area of green space, popular with runners and dog walkers. It is often used as a site for pigeon fanciers to race pigeons, and as a landing site for hot air balloons and air ambulances. Wilthorpe is an area of Barnsley in South Yorkshire, England. Bisected by the A635 Huddersfield Road, Wilthorpe has several small shops and an infant school, as well as an ATS garage and a dentist. Wilthorpe sits in the S75 area of Barnsley, along with the neighbouring districts of Pogmoor, Gawber, and Mapplewell. The village is popular among young professionals who commute to the cities of Leeds, Sheffield and Manchester.

Barugh is a village in the metropolitan borough of Barnsley in South Yorkshire, England. The village falls within the Barnsley Metropolitan ward of Darton West. Until 1974 it was in the West Riding of Yorkshire.

Horizon Community College is a co-educational secondary school located in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England, on the A628. The school was formed in 2012 from a merger of Holgate School and The Kingstone School. The school relocated to a new campus with facilities for leisure, cultural activities and adult learning to be used by the local community. There is capacity, if needs be, to teach groups as large as 65, using classrooms with removable walls. Anne, Princess Royal visited the School on 4 July 2014 where she met the then local MP (Dan Jarvis), the executive principal (Nicholas Bowen) and a small selection of pupils.Previously a voluntary aided school administered by Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council, in June 2019 Horizon Community College converted to academy status. The school is now sponsored by the Hoyland Common Academy Trust. As of 2020, Nicholas Bowen is now the Executive Principal, Vice Chair of Barnsley College, and the Chair of the Barnsley Schools Alliance, working two days a week to support school improvement across the borough.

Staincross was a Wapentake (Hundred), which is an administrative division (or ancient district), in the historic county of the West Riding of Yorkshire. It consisted of seven parishes, and included the towns of Barnsley and Penistone

Kingstone School was a secondary school located in the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England. Founded in 1987, the school provided secondary education to pupils aged 11–16. It had a capacity of approximately 1,500, making it one of the largest schools in the area. In September 1987, Kingstone was formed by the amalgamation of Broadway Grammar School with adjacent Charter Comprehensive during the restructure of the British education system. In September 2012 it amalgamated with Holgate School to form Horizon Community College based at a new site on Dodworth road. The Kingstone School buildings were demolished in late 2012 to make way for a housing development.

Barugh Green (locally pronounced as Bark Green or occasionally mis-pronounced as Bart Green) is a semi-rural commuter village in the metropolitan borough of Barnsley in South Yorkshire, England. The village falls within the Barnsley Metropolitan Council Ward of Darton West. Like many other villages, Barugh Green has lost some of its heritage and cultural identity in the past 30 years. The once central Phoenix Inn public house closed in 1999 and the Spencers Arms closed in 2010 (now Little India, a takeaway which has a unique cooking school), leaving only Barugh Green Working Men's Club and the newly renovated Crown and Anchor.

Dodworth is a village in the metropolitan borough of Barnsley in South Yorkshire, England. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, it has a population of 5,742, increasing to 5,900 at the 2011 Census (9,777 for Dodworth Ward).

Holgate School was a state school in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England. It was closed in 2012, when it was merged with The Kingstone School to form Horizon Community College. After Holgate closed, it was demolished and the site was turned into a car park for Horizon Community College.
