The Cobb County School District (CCSD) is the county government agency which operates public schools in Cobb County, Georgia, United States. The school district includes all of Cobb County except for the Marietta City Schools, though a number of schools in unincorporated parts of the county have Marietta addresses. It is the second-largest school system in Georgia (behind only Gwinnett County Public Schools) and 23rd largest in the United States. The district is the county's largest employer and one of the largest in the US (at least in school systems). All Cobb County schools are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), and the district is among the first to have earned district-wide accreditation. The superintendent of the school district is Chris Ragsdale.

Cobb Virtual Academy (CVA) is an education program created and provided by the Cobb County School District in Georgia, United States. It is a separate entity from the Georgia Virtual School, an initiative by the Georgia Department of Education to provide virtual learning to students in public and private schools. The director is Ryan Fuller. Preliminary meetings, finals, and End of Course Tests are all done in person. Most assignments simply require composing a text document or completing a downloaded worksheet and emailing it to a teacher. One or two of these classes may be taken during each of the normal school years with limited seats for each. There are 45 different classes available.

Air Force Plant 6, known during World War II as the Bell Bomber Plant, is a government-owned, contractor-operated aerospace facility at Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Marietta, Georgia, currently owned by the United States Air Force and operated by Lockheed Martin Aeronautics. The plant, originally occupied by Bell Aircraft, began operation in April 1943 and was intended specifically to produce B-29 Superfortresses under license from Boeing. During the course of the War, the factory produced 668 B-29s for the United States Army Air Forces, and at its peak had a work force of approximately 28,000. After the War the factory was mothballed, but with the United States's entrance into the Korean War, in January 1951 the plant was turned over to Lockheed who began refurbishing B-29s. The plant remains in use today by Lockheed.

The Glover–McLeod–Garrison House, in Marietta, Georgia, also known as Bushy Park and as Rocking Chair Hill, is a Greek Revival-style house which was built in 1847-51 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). It was built and/or designed by Willis Ball. It was built for entrepreneur John Heyward Glover, who sold it in 1851 and went on to build the Glover-Blair-Anderson House (c.1851) also in Marietta, said to be "one of the finest antebellum structures in Marietta", and also NRHP-listed as part of the Northwest Marietta Historic District. It was listed with address 250 Garrison Rd., SE, but that part of the street is called Magnolia Chase Dr. as of 2017. It was vacant from 1931 to 1939, then purchased and restored.It was listed on the National Register in 1977.

Fair Oaks is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Cobb County, Georgia, United States. The population was 9,028 at the 2020 census. Fair Oaks lies just outside the city limits of Smyrna and Marietta, and the area uses "Smyrna" or "Marietta" for its mailing addresses. Except for actual residents of Fair Oaks, very few locals even know it exists as a separately-counted area. The name is also rarely used by local businesses, even in the immediate area. The area was named for its many mature native oak trees. This, however, is threatened by nearby Dobbins Air Reserve Base and new Federal Aviation Administration regulations regarding flight paths for takeoff and landing. In 2005, the lower house of the Georgia General Assembly passed a resolution in support of the community, which was built in the early 20th century, well before the military base.[1]

Chattahoochee Technical College (Chattahoochee Tech, CTC, or Chatt Tech) is a public technical college in the U.S. state of Georgia. It is governed by the Technical College System of Georgia and has eight campuses in the north-northwest metro-Atlanta area, and another just outside the region. It is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACS) to award technical certificates of credit, diplomas, and associate degrees. The college was formed in 2009 as the result of the merger of Appalachian Technical College, Chattahoochee Technical College, and North Metro Technical College.

Marietta Confederate Cemetery is a large Confederate cemetery located in Marietta, Georgia, adjacent to the larger Marietta City Cemetery.The Marietta Confederate Cemetery is one of the largest burial grounds for Confederate dead. It is the resting place to over 3,000 soldiers from all 11 Confederate states plus Maryland, Missouri, and Kentucky. The cemetery was established in 1863 as a gift from Jane Glover who was the wife of Marietta's first mayor. It sits on the site of a former Baptist church that was later moved to a new location in downtown Marietta and the land was acquired by John Glover – Marietta's first mayor. There was initially an offer to bury Confederate dead along with dead Union soldiers at the Marietta National Cemetery, but the offer was refused because Marietta officials did not want Confederate dead to be buried near Yankee dead.Soldiers killed in the battles of Chickamauga (in Tennessee and Georgia), Kolb's Farm and Kennesaw Mountain from the Atlanta Campaign are interred there.

The Arnoldus Brumby House is a historic house in Marietta, Georgia, United States. It was built (most likely by enslaved African American people) in the Antebellum Era for a white, male West Point graduate and Confederate colonel. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Cobb County Public Library System (CCPLS) is a system of 15 public libraries in Cobb County, Georgia, United States, excluding its second-largest city of Smyrna, which runs its own Smyrna Public Library. CobbCat.org is the online database of all CCPLS holdings. The CCPLS uses an interlibrary loan system among all 15 branches, and allows for loan requests from other counties and areas through WorldCat. Those with a valid library card in the Cobb Country Library system can reserve materials online and pick them up in their local library. Books may be returned at any library in the system.

Marietta National Cemetery is a United States National Cemetery located in the city of Marietta in Cobb County, Georgia. It encompasses 23.3 acres (9.4 ha), and as of the end of 2006, had 18,742 interments. It is closed to new interments, and is now maintained by the new Georgia National Cemetery.

Southern Polytechnic State University (also called Southern Poly; abbreviated SPSU) was a public, co-educational, state university in Marietta, Georgia, United States approximately 20 miles (32 km) northwest of downtown Atlanta. Until 2015, it was an independent part of the University System of Georgia and called itself "Georgia's Technology University."Southern Tech was founded in 1948 as The Technical Institute in Chamblee, Georgia by Blake R. Van Leer. The first classes were held with 116 students. It was renamed the Southern Technical Institute in 1949 and moved to its present campus in Marietta, Georgia in 1962. It went through another name change in 1987 and became the Southern College of Technology. In the summer of 1996, the university adopted its polytechnic name. It was one among a small group of polytechnic universities in the United States that tend to be primarily devoted to the instruction of technical arts and applied sciences.On November 1, 2013, plans were announced by the Georgia Board of Regents for Southern Polytechnic and Kennesaw State University to be consolidated into one university. On January 6, 2015, the Georgia Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia approved the consolidation of Southern Poly and Kennesaw State, with Kennesaw State as the surviving institution. On July 1, 2015, Kennesaw State established the Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology in honor of the former SPSU.

WGHR was a noncommercial radio station operated solely by the students of Southern Polytechnic State University in Marietta, Georgia, United States. The station was supported by students and its listeners with diverse programming from a wide variety of genres.
