Widdelswehr

Petkum (East Frisian Low Saxon: Petjem) is the easternmost district (Stadtteil) of the German city of Emden, in Lower Saxony. It is located to the east of Widdelswehr. Until 1972 it was part of the Leer district, since then it has been administratively part of the city of Emden. The small East Frisian village, the oldest center located on a warft on the Eems, has a long history: in 2006 Petkum celebrated the 1200th anniversary of the village. The St. Antonius Church in the village was built in the thirteenth century. The village is connected by ferry to Ditzum on the other side of the river. The former Herrlichkeit of Petkum with its own administration and jurisdiction was first mentioned in the 10th century as Pettinghem. In 1364 the place was also recorded as Pectium. Today's spelling has been documented since 1369. The settlement's name can probably be translated as "dwelling of the people of Patjo" or "dwelling of the people of Bado".A branch of the prominent Ripperda family originated from Petkum.

Jarßum or Jarssum is a village in Lower Saxony, Germany. Together with Widdelswehr, it is a district (Stadtteil) of the city of Emden. It is located on the northern embankment of the Ems. In the land records of the monastery of Werden, Jarßum is listed as Gerzhem in the 10th century. The name Jarßum means 'house of a distinguished man' named Jarrich or Gerrad. Variations of the name are Jarsum or Jarrsum. Today both the spelling with ß and ss are used.The village has a church from 1797. This replaced an older church from the fourteenth century.

The Ems (German: Ems; Dutch: Eems) is a river in northwestern Germany. It runs through the states of North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony, and discharges into the Dollart Bay which is part of the Wadden Sea. Its total length is 362.4 kilometres (225.2 mi). The state border between the Lower Saxon area of East Friesland (Germany) and the province of Groningen (Netherlands), whose exact course was the subject of a border dispute between Germany and the Netherlands (settled in 2014), runs through the Ems estuary.

Uphusen is a village in Lower Saxony, Germany. The East Frisian village is currently a borough (Stadtteil) of the city of Emden together with Marienwehr. Uphusen was originally a village built on a warft. The current warft, with the church on it, was created from three smaller mounds. The current church dates from the fifteenth century. This replaced an earlier church from the thirteenth century that was said to have been demolished and rebuilt in Veenhusen. The name of the place is a combination of up ('higher') and husen ('houses'), therefore meaning “higher located houses”.

Borssum or Borßum is a village in Lower Saxony, Germany. Together with the village of Hilmarsum it forms a district (Stadtteil) of Emden. The East Frisian village on the Eems is located southeast of the city. The history of Borssum dates back to the seventh century. It originated from two centres, Groß-Borssum and Klein-Borssum, both of which had a borg. Today, the Westerburg School and the Osterburg School are located on the location of both buildings.The historic village with a church from the thirteenth century, has grown into one of the larger districts of Emden, especially after the Second World War.

Gandersum is a small village in the region of East Frisia, in Lower Saxony, Germany. Administratively, it is an Ortsteil of the municipality of Moormerland. Located on the north bank of the Ems estuary, Gandersum is to the southeast of Emden and the west of Oldersum. It has a population of 85. Gandersum was already mentioned in a list of possessions of the Werden Abbey from 930. Here, the village is mentioned as Gondrikeshem. The Church of Gandersum dates from the fourteenth century.

Wolthusen is a former village in Lower Saxony, Germany and borough (Stadtteil) of Emden. It was incorporated into the city in 1928. The village character can still be found around the old village church from 1784. The church, located on a yard, was built on the location where a predecessor had already been built in the fifteenth century. The name of the village refers to its location in low, swampy meadows (wold), composed of -husen, i.e. 'houses'.

Marienwehr is a small village in Lower Saxony, Germany. The East Frisian village is currently a borough (Stadtteil) of the city of Emden together with Uphusen. The village is located on a warft Shortly before the start of the Second World War and especially in the years immediately afterwards, new settlement houses were built northeast of the village center, on the shore of the lake called Kleines Meer ('Little Lake').

OLT Express Germany (formerly OLT Ostfriesische Lufttransport GmbH or OLT) was an airline based in Bremen in Germany. The company moved to Bremen from Emden in February 2012. It operated regional scheduled and charter flights linking northern Germany to other parts of the country and Bremen to other European destinations. Its main base was Bremen Airport.

The port is connected to the railway network with the Emden Außenhafen station via Emden main station. Large industry and shipbuilding companies are located at Emden harbor, among them Volkswagen, Nordseewerke, ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems, Cassens and many others.

Kunsthalle Emden (Henri and Eske Nannen Foundation, Donation Otto Van de loo) is a German art museum in Emden in East Frisia, Germany.The museum's collections include more than 1,500 works.
