Uphusen

Marienwehr is a small village in Lower Saxony, Germany. The East Frisian village is currently a borough (Stadtteil) of the city of Emden together with Uphusen. The village is located on a warft Shortly before the start of the Second World War and especially in the years immediately afterwards, new settlement houses were built northeast of the village center, on the shore of the lake called Kleines Meer ('Little Lake').

Wolthusen is a former village in Lower Saxony, Germany and borough (Stadtteil) of Emden. It was incorporated into the city in 1928. The village character can still be found around the old village church from 1784. The church, located on a yard, was built on the location where a predecessor had already been built in the fifteenth century. The name of the village refers to its location in low, swampy meadows (wold), composed of -husen, i.e. 'houses'.

OLT Express Germany (formerly OLT Ostfriesische Lufttransport GmbH or OLT) was an airline based in Bremen in Germany. The company moved to Bremen from Emden in February 2012. It operated regional scheduled and charter flights linking northern Germany to other parts of the country and Bremen to other European destinations. Its main base was Bremen Airport.

Jarßum or Jarssum is a village in Lower Saxony, Germany. Together with Widdelswehr, it is a district (Stadtteil) of the city of Emden. It is located on the northern embankment of the Ems. In the land records of the monastery of Werden, Jarßum is listed as Gerzhem in the 10th century. The name Jarßum means 'house of a distinguished man' named Jarrich or Gerrad. Variations of the name are Jarsum or Jarrsum. Today both the spelling with ß and ss are used.The village has a church from 1797. This replaced an older church from the fourteenth century.

Suurhusen is a village north of Emden in the German region of East Frisia. It has about 1,100 inhabitants and is administered by the municipality of Hinte. The steeple of the Suurhusen church, inclined at an angle of 5.19 degrees, is the most leaning tower of the world, beating the Leaning Tower of Pisa by 1.22 degrees.The settlement was first mentioned in documents from 1255 and in former times was also called Zuiderhusen ("Southern Husen"), most likely due to close proximity of Osterhusen and Westerhusen. However, a stone with the year 1004 and ceramic objects found in the old church tower point to the fact that the village is much older. In the village centre is a small museum in which the life of an agricultural worker's family is illustrated.

Widdelswehr is a village in Lower Saxony, Germany. Together with Jarßum, it is a district (Stadtteil) of the city of Emden. It is located on the northern embankment of the Ems and to the west of Petkum. Until 1972, Widdelswehr was an independent municipality that was part of the district Leer.The village was a East Frisian chieftain's seat in the Middle Ages. The village of was probably first mentioned in the Werden land register in the 10th century as Uuerue and certainly in the 10th to 11th centuries as Uuiggeldasgihueruia. The first part of the word developed from the proper name Wigold, the second part refers to a terp (warft; an artificial dwelling mount). This means that the place name could be translated as "warft of Wigold”.

Borssum or Borßum is a village in Lower Saxony, Germany. Together with the village of Hilmarsum it forms a district (Stadtteil) of Emden. The East Frisian village on the Eems is located southeast of the city. The history of Borssum dates back to the seventh century. It originated from two centres, Groß-Borssum and Klein-Borssum, both of which had a borg. Today, the Westerburg School and the Osterburg School are located on the location of both buildings.The historic village with a church from the thirteenth century, has grown into one of the larger districts of Emden, especially after the Second World War.

The Kleines Meer ("Little Lake"), also called the Hieve, is a lake in East Frisia. It lies northeast of Emden on the territory of the municipality of Hinte; its southwestern shore borders on the Uphusen-Marienwehr borough of Emden, its southeastern and eastern shores on the municipality of Südbrookmerland. The Kleines Meer has an area of 93 hectares (230 acres) and is thus significantly smaller than the neighbouring Großes Meer ("Great Lake"), which lies within the municipality of Südbrookmerland. After sand was removed in the late 1970s, the formerly shallow lake had a maximum depth of 24 metres (79 ft). In July 2006 it was still up to 19 metres (62 ft) deep, albeit in the middle of the dredged basin. The Kleines Meer is popular as a leisure and recreation spot, especially with dinghy sailors, surfers, anglers and weekenders. Little holiday chalets, the so-called Meerbuden, have been built along the Emden, Hinte and Südbrookmerland shores. Unlike the Großes Meer, motor boats are allowed on the shortest route on the Hieve, but may not exceed 5 km/h (3.1 mph) in order to protect the natural habitat and the banks of the lake shore. There is a link to the rest of the East Frisian waterways network along its only outlet, the Kurze Tief; this flows into the Treckfahrtstief, which, in turn, links to the canal network of the town of Emden and eventually to the River Ems.

Emden (German pronunciation: [ˈɛmdn̩] ) is an independent city and seaport in Lower Saxony in the northwest of Germany, on the river Ems. It is the main city of the region of East Frisia and, in 2011, had a total population of 51,528.

The Leaning Tower of Suurhusen (German: Schiefer Turm von Suurhusen) is a late medieval steeple in Suurhusen, a village in the East Frisian region of northwestern Germany. According to the Guinness World Records it was at one time the most tilted tower in the world, although intentionally inclined towers such as the Montreal Tower far surpass it. The Suurhusen steeple as of 2007 claimed to be the unintentionally tilted tower with the greatest angle of lean in the world, 1.22° more than Leaning Tower of Pisa.

Ostfriesland-Stadion is a multi-use stadium in Emden, Germany. It is used exclusively for football matches and has been the home stadium of Kickers Emden since 1950.

Petkum (East Frisian Low Saxon: Petjem) is the easternmost district (Stadtteil) of the German city of Emden, in Lower Saxony. It is located to the east of Widdelswehr. Until 1972 it was part of the Leer district, since then it has been administratively part of the city of Emden. The small East Frisian village, the oldest center located on a warft on the Eems, has a long history: in 2006 Petkum celebrated the 1200th anniversary of the village. The St. Antonius Church in the village was built in the thirteenth century. The village is connected by ferry to Ditzum on the other side of the river. The former Herrlichkeit of Petkum with its own administration and jurisdiction was first mentioned in the 10th century as Pettinghem. In 1364 the place was also recorded as Pectium. Today's spelling has been documented since 1369. The settlement's name can probably be translated as "dwelling of the people of Patjo" or "dwelling of the people of Bado".A branch of the prominent Ripperda family originated from Petkum.
