Naval Air Station Whiting Field – South (ICAO: KNDZ, FAA LID: NDZ), also known as South Whiting Field, is located three miles (5 km) north of the central business district of Milton, in Santa Rosa County, Florida, United States. This military airport is owned by the US Navy. It is one of two airfields located at Naval Air Station Whiting Field, the other airfield being NAS Whiting Field – North. This airport is assigned a three-letter location identifier of NDZ by the Federal Aviation Administration, but it does not have an International Air Transport Association (IATA) airport code.

Naval Air Station Whiting Field is a United States Navy base located near Milton, Florida, with some outlying fields near Navarre, Florida, in south and central Santa Rosa County, and is one of the Navy's two primary pilot training bases (the other being NAS Corpus Christi, Texas). NAS Whiting Field provides training for U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and Air Force student pilots, as well as those of several allied nations. NAS Whiting Field is home to Training Air Wing Five (TRAWING 5). NAS Whiting Field is actually two airfields sharing a common support base. Primary Flight Training student aviators fly the Beechcraft T-6 Texan II from North Whiting Field (KNSE) while Advanced Helicopter Training takes place utilizing the TH-57 Sea Ranger at South Whiting Field (KNDZ).

VT-2, VT-3, and VT-6 of Training Air Wing Five use North Field for Primary fixed-wing training in the Beechcraft T-6 Texan II.

Its population was 894 as of the 2010 census.State Road 87 (SR 87), SR 89, and County Road 182 (CR 182) pass through the community. The intersection of CR 182 and SR 89 is typically referred by locals as "downtown Allentown" or simply "the caution light." Central School and the local volunteer fire department are located in Allentown. There are two small churches within the community. Navy T-6 Training planes are frequently heard overhead due to the close proximity of NAS Whiting Field to the east.

Milton High School (MHS) is a public four-year high school located in Milton, Florida. Milton High School was established in 1915 making it the oldest school in Santa Rosa County. The original campus was built on Canal Street in Milton, FL and held classes there until it moved to its current location on Stewart Street in 1953. The original building is now the home to the Santa Rosa County School Board offices. MHS enrolls over 1,800 students, grades nine through twelve. Milton High has had several principals over its more than 100 years of existence. Most recently, Don Lewis Lynn, Jr. was principal from 1999 to the 2006–07 school year, until taking an Assistant Superintendent position at the county level. Principal Michael Thorpe took over after Buddy Powell and served from 2008 to the 2014–2015 school year. Tim Short became principal in April 2015.

The facility opened in 1996 with a mix of security levels and a capacity of 1,614. It is often considered one of the "toughest" and "most dangerous" prisons in the state of Florida. The adjacent Santa Rosa Correctional Institution Annex opened in 2006, and houses another 1,478 inmates at the same security levels.Also nearby is the privately operated Blackwater River Correctional Facility with Florida state inmates.

St. Mary's Church is a parish in the Diocese of the Central Gulf Coast of the Episcopal Church based in Milton, Florida. It is noted for its historic Carpenter Gothic-style church and its adjacent rectory, also known as the McDougall House, located at 300 Oak Street, now 6841 Oak Street. On May 6, 1982, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places as "St. Mary's Episcopal Church and Rectory." The congregation first met for worship on August 4, 1867. The current church opened for services in 1878. As with other Carpenter Gothic churches, features of the Gothic Revival style have been executed in wood, such as its lancet windows, decorative bargeboards, and finials.In 1989, St. Mary's Episcopal Church was listed in A Guide to Florida's Historic Architecture, published by the University of Florida Press. The listing quotes from Frank Lloyd Wright's book, The Aesthetics of American Architecture, in which he wrote: "Saint Mary's is a jewel created in the purest tradition of the Gothic Revival. It survives today with its pure lines intact, its muted colors untouched. Purity, it is without a blemish."The church celebrated its sesquicentennial anniversary in 2017.
