Santa Rosa County is a county located in the northwestern portion of the U.S. state of Florida. As of 2020, the population is 188,000. The county seat is Milton, which lies in the geographic center of the county. Other major communities within Santa Rosa County are Navarre, Pace, and Gulf Breeze. Navarre is the most populated community with a population of approximately 45,000 residents. Santa Rosa County is included in the Pensacola Metropolitan Statistical Area, which also includes Escambia County.

Naval Air Station Whiting Field is a United States Navy base located near Milton, Florida, with some outlying fields near Navarre, Florida, in south and central Santa Rosa County, and is one of the Navy's two primary pilot training bases (the other being NAS Corpus Christi, Texas). NAS Whiting Field provides training for U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and Air Force student pilots, as well as those of several allied nations. NAS Whiting Field is home to Training Air Wing Five (TRAWING 5). NAS Whiting Field is actually two airfields sharing a common support base. Primary Flight Training student aviators fly the Beechcraft T-6 Texan II from North Whiting Field (KNSE) while Advanced Helicopter Training takes place utilizing the TH-57 Sea Ranger at South Whiting Field (KNDZ).

NAS Whiting Field - North (IATA: NSE, ICAO: KNSE), also known as North Whiting Field, is located four miles (6 km) north of the central business district of Milton, a city in Santa Rosa County, Florida, United States. It is one of two airfields located at Naval Air Station Whiting Field, the other airfield being NAS Whiting Field - South. VT-2, VT-3, and VT-6 of Training Air Wing Five use North Field for Primary fixed-wing training in the Beechcraft T-6 Texan II.

Its population was 894 as of the 2010 census.State Road 87 (SR 87), SR 89, and County Road 182 (CR 182) pass through the community. The intersection of CR 182 and SR 89 is typically referred by locals as "downtown Allentown" or simply "the caution light." Central School and the local volunteer fire department are located in Allentown. There are two small churches within the community. Navy T-6 Training planes are frequently heard overhead due to the close proximity of NAS Whiting Field to the east.

Milton High School (MHS) is a public four-year high school located in Milton, Florida. Milton High School was established in 1915 making it the oldest school in Santa Rosa County. The original campus was built on Canal Street in Milton, FL and held classes there until it moved to its current location on Stewart Street in 1953. The original building is now the home to the Santa Rosa County School Board offices. MHS enrolls over 1,800 students, grades nine through twelve. Milton High has had several principals over its more than 100 years of existence. Most recently, Don Lewis Lynn, Jr. was principal from 1999 to the 2006–07 school year, until taking an Assistant Superintendent position at the county level. Principal Michael Thorpe took over after Buddy Powell and served from 2008 to the 2014–2015 school year. Tim Short became principal in April 2015.

The adjacent Santa Rosa Correctional Institution Annex opened in 2006, and houses another 1,478 inmates at the same security levels.Also nearby is the privately operated Blackwater River Correctional Facility with Florida state inmates.

SRMC is the primary provider of hospital-based healthcare services and emergency medicine in Santa Rosa County, Florida. The main hospital campus is located at 6002 Berryhill Road, Milton, FL 32570. The facility is leased and managed by Community Health Systems (CHS), a large U.S. healthcare company based in Franklin, Tennessee. SRMC, along with its affiliated health services facilities and clinics, is one of the largest employers in Santa Rosa County, Florida, employing nearly 700 staff and volunteers, over 200 physicians.
