The Pan-African University of the Congo (UPAC) is a public higher education institution in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, based in Kinshasa, the capital city.

The Marble Palace, (French: Palais de Marbre), is a palace and historic building in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, situated atop a hill in the Ngaliema Commune within the residential neighborhood of Ma Campagne, located a few miles from Mont-Fleury. The complex serves as a guest residence during specific official visits and is accessible to the general public, housing an exhibition that chronicles the history of Laurent-Désiré Kabila's assassination.

Laurent-Désiré Kabila, the former president of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, was assassinated in his office inside his official residence at the Palais de Marbre, Kinshasa on 16 January 2001. The assassin who killed him was his 18-year-old bodyguard named Rashidi Mizele, who has also been previously identified as Rashidi Kasereka. Mizele was later shot dead. It was believed that some former child soldiers (kadogos) were part of this plan.

Mont Ngafula is a municipality (commune) in the Lukunga district of Kinshasa, the capital city of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.It is in the hilly southern area of Kinshasa and is intersected by the Lukaya River valley in its southern portion. The boundary with the Ngaliema commune is defined by the Lukunga River.Residence in the area is relatively new; in the 1970s, it became home to a small number of upper and middle-class business executives, politicians and other relatively affluent people. However, many of the would-be extravagant compounds commissioned remain incomplete, mainly due to the drastic economic decline that characterized the latter portion of the Mobutu era.

Selembao is a municipality (commune) in the Funa district of Kinshasa, the capital city of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.It is situated in the south of Kinshasa. Selembao is one of the new settlements, located near the Kalamu and Kasa-Vubu hills.

Bumbu is a municipality (commune) in the Funa district of Kinshasa, the capital city of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.The town is in the hilled southern portion of Kinshasa and settlement there is relatively new. It lies in the vicinity of the Kasa-Vubu and Kalamu boulevards.

On 17 May 2017, a mass jailbreak at Makala Central Prison in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, resulted in the deaths of up to 100 people.

Makala Central Prison (French: Prison centrale de Makala), or Makala Prison (French: Prison de Makala, Lingala: Bolóko ya Makala), is the biggest prison in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), located in its capital city, Kinshasa. It is located in the city center, 3 miles (4.8 km) from the presidential palace. Makala Prison is located between the communes of Makala and Selembao. With a theoretical capacity of 1,500 detainees, Makala is the only detention centre in Kinshasa, with the exception of Ndolo military prison. The security of each of the eleven pavilions where prisoners are housed is ensured by the inmates. There are no police officers or prison guards inside the site. Instead, prisoners armed with batons guard the entrances and exits of each pavilion.

On 1–2 September 2024, an attempted jailbreak at Makala Central Prison in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo resulted in the deaths of at least 129 people and more than 59 other injuries. A prison official said that no inmates escaped, but inmates and human rights groups said that there were around 2,000 fewer prisoners in the facility immediately after the incident. Part of the prison was set on fire.

Loyola University of Congo, also referred to by its acronym ULC, is a private Roman Catholic higher education institution run by the Central Africa Province of the Society of Jesus in Kinshasa, the capital city of the Democratic Republic of Congo. It was founded by the Jesuits in 2016. The Jesuits have pursued educational efforts in Kinshasa since 1954, and have named the university after the founder of the Jesuits, Ignatius of Loyola.

The Faculty of Agronomic and Veterinary Science (FSAV) at Loyola University of Congo dates back to Agro-Veterinary Higher Institute founded by the Society of Jesus in Kinshasa in 1994. The purpose of its founding was to further ecologically sound and sustainable food development in the central African region.

Funa is an area of the capital city of Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, comprising seven of the city-province's twenty-four administrative divisions—the communes of Bandalungwa, Bumbu, Kalamu, Kasa-Vubu, Makala, Ngiri-Ngiri and Selembao. It is one of the four so-called districts of Kinshasa. These were the administrative divisions of Kinshasa during much of the Mobutu years (1965-1997) and around which a number of government systems and services are still organized. For instance, Funa makes up a twelve-member National Assembly constituency designated as Kinshasa II. However, these districts are not part of Congo's territorial organization.
