Selembao is a municipality (commune) in the Funa district of Kinshasa, the capital city of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.It is situated in the south of Kinshasa. Selembao is one of the new settlements, located near the Kalamu and Kasa-Vubu hills.

On 17 May 2017, a mass jailbreak at Makala Central Prison in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, resulted in the deaths of up to 100 people.

Makala Central Prison (French: Prison centrale de Makala), or Makala Prison (French: Prison de Makala, Lingala: Bolóko ya Makala), is the biggest prison in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), located in its capital city, Kinshasa. It is located in the city center, 3 miles (4.8 km) from the presidential palace. Makala Prison is located between the communes of Makala and Selembao. With a theoretical capacity of 1,500 detainees, Makala is the only detention centre in Kinshasa, with the exception of Ndolo military prison. The security of each of the eleven pavilions where prisoners are housed is ensured by the inmates. There are no police officers or prison guards inside the site. Instead, prisoners armed with batons guard the entrances and exits of each pavilion.

On 1–2 September 2024, an attempted jailbreak at Makala Central Prison in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo resulted in the deaths of at least 129 people and more than 59 other injuries. A prison official said that no inmates escaped, but inmates and human rights groups said that there were around 2,000 fewer prisoners in the facility immediately after the incident. Part of the prison was set on fire.

Funa is an area of the capital city of Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, comprising seven of the city-province's twenty-four administrative divisions—the communes of Bandalungwa, Bumbu, Kalamu, Kasa-Vubu, Makala, Ngiri-Ngiri and Selembao. It is one of the four so-called districts of Kinshasa. These were the administrative divisions of Kinshasa during much of the Mobutu years (1965-1997) and around which a number of government systems and services are still organized. For instance, Funa makes up a twelve-member National Assembly constituency designated as Kinshasa II. However, these districts are not part of Congo's territorial organization.

Ngiri-Ngiri is a municipality (commune) in the Funa district of Kinshasa, the capital city of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.It is situated in the south of Kinshasa. Ngiri-Ngiri is one of the settlements which were built in the 1940s, located at the foot of the Kalamu and Kasa-Vubu hills to the south of the province.

Ngaba is a municipality (commune) in the Mont Amba district of Kinshasa, the capital city of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.It is situated in the south of Kinshasa. Settlement in this hilled area is relatively new.

Bandalungwa is a municipality (commune) in the Funa district of Kinshasa, the capital city of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.Its northern portion is occupied by the military barracks of Kokolo, whose buildings prominently display traditional Flemish architecture. The barracks are separated from residential areas such as the "Block" by Kasavubu Avenue.

Lemba is one of the 24 communes that are the administrative divisions of Kinshasa, the capital city of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The hospital is in the Mont Ngafula area south of Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo. The hospital includes include 515 beds, surgical services, infectious diseases, pediatrics, gynecology, obstetrics, ENT, nephrology, urology, cardiology, respiratory medicine and other health services.

Kasa-Vubu is a municipality (commune) in the Funa district of Kinshasa, the capital city of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.Along with Kalamu, it forms the historical African heart of Kinshasa. Formerly known as Dendale, the town's name derives from the first president of the Congo after independence, Joseph Kasa-Vubu, who was elected mayor of the commune in 1957.
