Sudan Airways Flight 109 was a scheduled international Amman–Damascus–Khartoum passenger flight, operated with an Airbus A310 by the flag carrier of Sudan, Sudan Airways. On 10 June 2008, at approximately 17:26 UTC, the Airbus A310 crashed on landing at Khartoum International Airport, killing 30 of the 214 occupants on board.The investigation was conducted by Sudan's Air Accident Investigation Central Directorate with assistance from the French Bureau of Enquiry and Analysis for Civil Aviation Safety (BEA). The investigation concluded that the accident was caused by the long flaring distance of the flight on a wet runway, aggravated with the non-deployment of the autobrake and one of the Airbus A310's two engine reversers. The inclement weather condition and the crew's lack of information on the weather were cited as contributing factors. Following the accident, Sudan's Air Accident Investigation Central Directorate issued several recommendations, mainly on better training and better infrastructure on the airport.

The Ministry of Education is responsible for overseeing the general education system in the country. This includes primary, secondary, and vocational education. Their responsibilities typically involve setting educational policies, developing curriculum, and implementing systemic improvements. On the other hand, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research is responsible for supervising and controlling public and private higher education institutions. This includes universities and other institutions offering education at the post-secondary level. They also work on promoting the level of higher education to align with global developments.

The National Ribat University (NRU) (Arabic: جامعة الرباط الوطني) is a university based in the city of Khartoum, Sudan.The President of the Republic is the sponsor of the university. The University Council is chaired by the Minister of Interior, and the Director General of Sudanese Police Forces is his deputy. The university is ranked 10,402 in the world, third in Sudan. In Sudan, it ranks below the University of Khartoum and the Sudan University of Science and Technology, above Karary University and the International University of Africa.The National Ribat University is one of the biggest universities in Sudan that offers a variety of programs Associate degree, Bachelor's degree and Master's degree. This university is partially affiliated with the Sudanese Police, whereas the students do not graduate with an official police ranking.

Kober Bridge (Arabic: كوبرى كوبر, Kubri Kūbir) is a bridge for road traffic that links the neighbourhood of al-Riadh in Khartoum with Kafouri in the industrial city Khartoum North across the Blue Nile in central Sudan. Named after the adjacent neighbourhood Kober (from Cooper, the first director of Kober prison at the beginning of the 1900s) in Khartoum North, it is also called "Armed Forces Bridge" and was opened on 23 October 2014.

The University of Khartoum (U of K) (Arabic: جامعة الخرطوم) is a public university located in Khartoum, Sudan. It is the largest and oldest university in Sudan. UofK was founded as Gordon Memorial College in 1902 and established in 1956 when Sudan gained independence. Since that date, the University of Khartoum has been recognized as a top university and a high-ranked academic institution in Sudan and Africa.It features several institutes, academic units and research centers including Mycetoma Research Center, Soba University Hospital, Saad Abualila Hospital, Dr. Salma Dialysis centre, Institute of Endemic Diseases, Institute for Studies and Promotion of Animal Exports, Institute of African and Asian Studies, Institute of Prof. Abdalla ElTayeb for Arabic Language, Development Studies and Research Institute, The Materials and Nanotechnology Research Center and U of K publishing house. The Sudan Library, a section of the university's library, serves as the national library of Sudan. It is also characterized by freedom of expression, and a number of revolutions have ignited from it to bring down unjust governments.

The Blue Nile Road and Railway Bridge is a bascule bridge in Sudan, which links the capital Khartoum to the industrial city Khartoum North across the Blue Nile.

Khartoum International Airport (IATA: KRT, ICAO: HSSK) (Arabic: مطار الخرطوم الدولي) is the principal airport in Khartoum, the capital of Sudan. The airport has been shut down since it was stormed and occupied on 15 April 2023 during the Battle of Khartoum. The current airport is scheduled to be replaced by the New Khartoum International Airport in Omdourman 40 kilometres (25 mi) south of the centre of Khartoum. This is planned to have two 4,000 metres (13,000 ft) runways, a passenger terminal of 86,000 m2 (930,000 sq ft) and a 300-room international hotel. Construction is to be carried out by China Harbour Engineering Co. (CHEC). On 4 March 2021, the airport's ICAO code was changed from HSSS to HSSK.The current airport originated as the Royal Air Force airfield Gordon's Tree. By January 1940, No. 223 Squadron RAF was located at Gordon's Tree, in the south of Khartoum. Later the area became known as El Shajjara ("The Tree"). By January 1942, No. 71 Operational Training Unit (OTU) RAF was operating from the airfield; among aircraft operated were Curtiss Tomahawks and Vickers Wellesleys. Reportedly the OTU had at one stage 50 Harvards and 20 Hurricane fighters on strength.Sudanese independence was granted in January 1956. The last Royal Air Force flying unit reported at Khartoum was No. 8 Squadron RAF, which arrived in November 1953, and stayed until July 1956.

Kobar Prison (Arabic: سجن كوبر), formerly known as Cooper prison, is one of the oldest prisons in Sudan, dating back to 1903. It was built by the administration of the former Anglo-Egyptian Sudan (1899–1956) and was named 'Kobar' in Arabic after the British official Cooper, who was in charge of the prison’s early administration.Since its establishment, it has been Sudan's most notorious prison. It consists of six sections, and it was infamous for being the detention center for thousands of prisoners of conscience and politicians. In 2019, former President Omar al-Bashir was taken to this prison after having been overthrown in a coup d'etat. In April 2023, during the 2023 Sudan conflict, a series of mass escapes occurred at many Sudanese prisons, including Kobar prison.

The Khartoum Memorial is a war memorial in Khartoum War Cemetery on the south-eastern side of Khartoum, Sudan.The memorial lists the names of 590 Commonwealth military personnel who died during the 1940–1941 East African campaign of World War II (in the Sudan, or in the advance into Eritrea and Northern Ethiopia) and for whom there is no known grave.

The Sudanese Journalists Syndicate (SJS) (Arabic: نقابة الصحفيين السودانيين) is a professional organisation for journalists in Sudan. The syndicate was re-established in August 2022 after more than three decades of absence. The last independent journalists' union was dissolved in 1989 when Omar al-Bashir came to power after a coup d'état.

Gaafar Ibnauf Children’s Emergency Hospital, Gaafar Ibnauf Children's Emergency Hospital (GICH) or the Dr. Gaafar Ibnauf Specialized Hospital is a children's hospital located in Khartoum, Sudan. It is the largest children's hospital in Sudan and incorporates many of the paediatric subspecialties including respiratory medicine, neurology, gastroenterology, cardiology, nephrology, infectious disease, paediatric intensive care and neonatal intensive care. It was one of the first dedicated children's hospitals in Africa.
