Monona is a city in Dane County, Wisconsin, United States. A suburb of the state capital, Madison, the city lies on the southeastern shore of Lake Monona, from which the city gets its name. The population was 8,624 at the 2020 census.

Robert M. La Follette High School is a public school located in Madison, Wisconsin, serving the city's far east side with its attendance boundaries including parts of the City of Madison, City of Fitchburg, Town of Blooming Grove, and Town of Burke, teaching students in grades 9-12. Founded in the fall of 1963, it is a part of the Madison Metropolitan School District, and is named after former lawmaker and 1924 presidential candidate Robert M. La Follette, Sr.

The Nathaniel W. Dean House is a simple brick Italianate-style home built about 1856 in Madison, Wisconsin for Dean, an early leader and developer in the area. In 1980 the house was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Monona Grove High School (MGHS) is a school in Monona, Wisconsin, United States. Mitchal McGrath is the principal. The school was first established in 1955 to serve students from the city of Monona and the village and town of Cottage Grove and formerly served students from Town of Blooming Grove. The current building was constructed in 1999.

WIXL-LP (97.1 FM) is a radio station licensed to Madison, Wisconsin, United States, the station serves the Madison area. The station is currently owned by City Church, Inc. It broadcasts a Christian rock format. After many delays, the station went on air just ahead of an FCC deadline.

The Monona Mound is a Native American mound at 4009 Monona Drive in Monona, Wisconsin. The mound has a club shape, with a cone at one end and a long linear tail. It was once part of a group with another club-shaped mound and two conical mounds, but the other mounds have been destroyed. The mound was built by Late Woodland people roughly between 700 and 1100 A.D. It may have been used to mark the spring equinox, as its orientation lines up with the sunset either the first or second day after the equinox.The mound is located on private property which was once owned by violin maker Knute Reindahl; as Reindahl had learned wood carving from Native Americans, he and his family preserved the mound. When Reindahl's descendants sold the mound in the 1980s, it became the first mound protected under Wisconsin's Burial Sites Preservation Act. The mound was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on December 1, 1989. The Monona Landmarks Commission placed a historical marker at the site in 2020.

Capital Springs State Recreation Area is a state park unit of Wisconsin, United States, in development just south of Madison. The total area of the park is 3,000 acres (1,200 ha), with 326 acres (132 ha) designated as a state park. The park was authorized in 2000, the centennial of the Wisconsin state park system. The park includes 3,700 feet (1,100 m) of undeveloped shoreline on Lake Waubesa. The recreation area incorporates existing Dane County parks, and the site will be jointly managed by the state and the county. The property includes Native American archaeological sites that were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978 as Lake Farms Archaeological District. In this area near Lake Waubesa, Early Woodland people lived seasonally, leaving behind remains of fish, mammals, waterfowl, nuts, and pottery fragments.

Madison Media Institute (MMI) was a private for-profit media arts college in Madison, Wisconsin. Until 2017, it ran a branch location in Edina, Minnesota. The school offered associate and baccalaureate degree programs in video, music production, game design, media technology, graphic design, and web and entertainment business. MMI closed in 2018.

Abundant Life Christian School (ALCS) in Madison, Wisconsin is a private Christian school. It is one of the largest non-sectarian private schools in the Madison area. ALCS was founded by Lake City Church (formerly Madison Gospel Tabernacle) in 1978 under the leadership of Pastor Warren Heckman. ALCS was established to be a community Christian school and welcomes families from a variety of churches. ALCS is a K–12 school which shares its 28-acre (110,000 m2) campus with City Church (a union of Lake City Church and Mad City Church) and Campus for Kids, an infant to 4K child care center. While the three ministries are closely related, the students and staff represent over 50 churches and many neighborhoods in Madison and its surrounding communities. Abundant Life Christian School and High Point Christian School consolidated in 2012 to form Madison Christian Schools - one school, two campuses.

The Wisconsin butter fire, also known as the butter flood, great cheese fire, and great butter fire, was a fire and flood of processed meat and dairy that began on May 3, 1991, at a large storage facility in Madison, Wisconsin. The fire continued for eight days; there were no fatalities, but it caused millions of dollars in damages. The incident is known as the biggest commercial fire in Wisconsin state history and the Madison Fire Department's biggest and most expensive challenge.

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection is a governmental agency of the U.S. state of Wisconsin responsible for regulating agriculture, trade, and commercial activity in the state. The department is administered by a secretary who is appointed by the governor and confirmed by the Senate. The department is directed and supervised by a nine-member Board of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection, who serve staggered six year terms and are appointed by the governor. Two of the board members are required to be consumer representatives, while the other seven are required to have an agricultural background.

Blooming Grove is a town in Dane County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,768 at the 2000 census. The unincorporated community of Hope is located in Blooming Grove. Although once much larger, currently the town of Blooming Grove consists of a few scattered neighborhoods and individual properties broken into discontinuous sections by the cities of Madison and Monona. Blooming Grove will be dissolved and annexed into the city of Madison by 2027.
