Buttsole is a hamlet within the civil parish of Eastry, south-west of Sandwich in Kent, England. It is a cluster of houses along Lower Street, south of the centre of Eastry.

Eastry is a civil parish in Kent, England, around 2+1⁄2 miles (4 km) southwest of Sandwich. It was voted "Kent Village of the Year 2005". The name is derived from the Old English Ēast-rige, meaning "eastern province" (c.f. Sūþ-rige "southern province"), also recorded as Ēastregē, from ēasterra gē (lit. "more easterly area").

Eastry South railway station was a railway station on the East Kent Light Railway. It opened on 13 April 1925 and closed to passenger traffic after the last train on 30 October 1948. The station served the village of Eastry. There was a siding to the south of the station. The track was removed in May 1954.

It was the station before the Richborough Branch diverged from the main line to Wingham. The station served the village of Eastry, it had a passing loop, but this had been converted to a siding in 1948. The track was removed in May 1954. There is no trace of the station today as the area has been landscaped into fields.

Betteshanger is a village and former civil parish. now in the parish of Northbourne, in the Dover district, in east Kent, UK, near Deal. It gave its name to the largest of the four chief collieries of the Kent coalfield. In 1931 the parish had a population of 55. On 1 April 1935 the parish was abolished and merged with Northbourne.

The A256 is a major road running along the east coast of Kent between the Isle of Thanet and Dover. It is operated by Kent County Council as a primary route, and has seen investment in the past to connect traffic to the Port of Ramsgate, and to the Pfizer research centre in Sandwich.

The Kent Coalfield is a coalfield in the eastern part of the English county of Kent. The Coalfields Trust defines the Kent Coalfield as the wards of Barham Downs and Marshside in the Canterbury district, and the wards of Aylesham, Eastry, Eythorne & Shepherdswell, Middle Deal & Sholden, Mill Hill and North Deal in the Dover district.Coal was discovered in the area in 1890 while borings for an early Channel Tunnel project were taking place; the resultant Shakespeare colliery lasted until 1915. In 1911, investigation into whether there was other workable coal was planned. Six 'bore holes' were put down in search of coal (at Rushbourne, Hoads Wood in Sturry, Herne Bay, Reculver, Chitty (which is near Chislet) and Chislet Park near the future site of Hersden). In the early years many collieries were sunk but were short-lived and the East Kent Light Railway was built to exploit the anticipated business. Extensive plans had been drawn up by 1914 for major coal exploitation in east Kent, and the coalfield expanded rapidly in the late 1920s and early 1930s, with its maximum output reached in 1936. The outbreak of war and disappointing test results resulted in four collieries surviving: Betteshanger, Chislet, Snowdown and Tilmanstone. Had coal been more easily accessible, the open, rural landscape of east Kent could have changed beyond recognition.

Ham is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Northbourne, in the Dover district, in the county of Kent, England. It is near the town of Sandwich. In 1931 the parish had a population of 63. On 1 April 1935 the parish was abolished and merged with Northbourne.There is a signpost nearby which points to both the hamlet and the town, thus appearing to read "Ham Sandwich".

Tilmanstone is a small village and civil parish in Kent, in the South East of England, near Eastry, a much bigger and more developed area. Tilmanstone no longer has a village school; however, the independent Northbourne Park School is close to the parish boundary. The name of Tilmanstone has historically been famous for its colliery, although it is located in the village of Eythorne, operated from 1906 to 1986 as one of the four main pits of the Kent coalfield. The population taken at the 2011 Census also included that of the nearby hamlet of Ashley.

Woodnesborough ( WINZ-brə) is a village in the Dover District of Kent, England, 2 miles (3.2 km) west of Sandwich. The population taken at the 2011 census included Coombe as well as Marshborough, and totalled 1,066. There is a Grade II* listed Anglican church dedicated to St Mary the Virgin.
