Ham, Kent

Ham Fen is a 41-hectare (100-acre) nature reserve south of Sandwich in Kent. It is one of Kent Wildlife Trust's nature reserves and is being extended in 2018 by an extra 33 acres. This old fenland site has wet grassland with deep mires, dykes and ditches, and is the last surviving ancient fen habitat in Kent. The reserve was established in 1991 and as of mid-2018 covers over 100 acres. Considerable damage was caused by two major episodes of land drainage in the 18th century and early 1980s, which led to significant habitat deterioration and loss of wetland species.Work to repair the natural environment includes the successful reintroduction of beavers to the site, which first took place in 2002.The site is not open to the public.

Finglesham Anglo-Saxon cemetery is a place of burial that was used from the sixth to the eighth centuries CE. It is located adjacent to the village of Finglesham, near Sandwich in Kent, South East England. Belonging to the Anglo-Saxon period, it was part of the much wider tradition of burial in Early Anglo-Saxon England. Finglesham was an inhumation-only cemetery, with no evidence of cremation. Many of the dead were interred with grave goods, which included personal ornaments, weapons, and domestic items, and some had tumuli erected above their graves. Coming under threat from chalk quarrying, the cemetery was first excavated by local archaeologists W.P.D. Stebbing and W. Whiting in 1928–29. After it was revealed that deep ploughing was becoming a threat to the site, further excavation took place under the finance of the Ministry of Public Buildings and Works between 1959 and 1967, directed by Sonia Chadwick Hawkes.

The A256 is a major road running along the east coast of Kent between the Isle of Thanet and Dover. It is operated by Kent County Council as a primary route, and has seen investment in the past to connect traffic to the Port of Ramsgate, and to the Pfizer research centre in Sandwich.

Finglesham is a village in the civil parish of Northbourne, and near Deal in Kent, England, which was the location of the Finglesham Anglo-Saxon cemetery, site of a seventh-century Anglo-Saxon archaeology find known as "Finglesham man," as described in 1965 by Sonia Chadwick Hawkes and Hilda Ellis Davidson. The village takes its name from the Old English Pengles-ham, meaning 'prince's manor', with the Anglo-Saxon cemetery containing a number of aristocratic burials. The population of the village is included in the civil parish of Northbourne. It is also known for the presence of a famous road sign (actually at nearby Finglesham Estuary), pointing to the nearby places of both Ham and Sandwich (and thus reading "ham sandwich" as if referring to the common item of food). The village is also on the Miner's Way Trail. The trail links up the coalfield parishes of East Kent.

Marley is a hamlet near the town of Deal in Kent, England. It is located about three miles (4.8 km) west of the town, on a minor road off the A258 road to Sandwich. The population of the hamlet is included in the civil parish of Northbourne.

The Rare Species Conservation Centre (RSCC) was a conservation centre and zoological gardens situated just outside Sandwich in Kent, England, operated by The Rare Species Conservation Trust, a UK registered charity. Its purpose was to educate visitors and create awareness of the plight of some of the world’s lesser-known rare and endangered species of animal. It was home to rare and unusual animals. It closed due to lack of funds on 31 August 2015.

Sandwich Technology School is a secondary school with academy status in Sandwich, Kent, England. The school is a non-selective school in a selective, grammar school area and serves a coastal and rural region, including an urban area that is subject to much regeneration, and some isolated villages. The school was rated 'Good' by Ofsted in May of 2019. The school name is often shortened by locals to 'Sandwich Tech' or 'STS'. The school motto is 'Hold fast that which is good'.

According to the 2011 UK Census, Worth had a population of 992.Worth was supposedly first inhabited due to its fertile soils. This then eventually led to the cultivation of the land during the Norman times by the Lords of the Eastry Manor.

Betteshanger is a village and former civil parish. now in the parish of Northbourne, in the Dover district, in east Kent, UK, near Deal. It gave its name to the largest of the four chief collieries of the Kent coalfield. In 1931 the parish had a population of 55. On 1 April 1935 the parish was abolished and merged with Northbourne.

A 7th-century cemetery was discovered in Updown, Kent, United Kingdom, in the 1970s. It was excavated by Sonia Chadwick Hawkes and Brian Philp in advance of development. Part of the cemetery is protected as a scheduled monument, and its full extent may encompass around 300 graves. 78 of the graves have been excavated.

Buttsole is a hamlet within the civil parish of Eastry, south-west of Sandwich in Kent, England. It is a cluster of houses along Lower Street, south of the centre of Eastry.

Poison Cross railway station was a railway station on the East Kent Light Railway. It opened in May 1925 and closed to passenger traffic on 1 November 1928. There was a passing loop and a siding.
