Moose Mountain is an 8-mile (13 km)-long ridge located in the eastern part of the town of Hanover in Grafton County, New Hampshire. The mountain is flanked to the north by Holts Ledge, at 2,110 feet (640 m), and to the south (across Mascoma Lake) by Shaker Mountain, at 1,690 feet (520 m). It is traversed by the Appalachian Trail, a 2,170-mile (3,490 km) National Scenic Trail from Georgia to Maine. Moose Mountain is outside the White Mountain National Forest, but the trail runs through a narrow corridor along the ridge which is administered by the U.S. Forest Service. The trail can be accessed from the south along Three Mile Road in Hanover, and from the north along Goose Pond Road in Lyme, New Hampshire.Moose Mountain has two summits, slightly over 1 mile apart. The higher summit, North Peak, has an elevation of 2,303 feet (702 m), while a subsidiary summit known as South Peak has an elevation of 2,293 feet (699 m). The mountain lies entirely within the Connecticut River watershed, with runoff flowing ultimately to Long Island Sound. The north end of the mountain drains into Hewes Brook, which enters the Connecticut River in Lyme, and most of the western side of the ridge drains into Mink Brook, a tributary of the Connecticut that flows through Hanover. The east side and extreme southwestern side of Moose Mountain drain into tributaries of the Mascoma River, which flows to the Connecticut through Lebanon, New Hampshire. Goose Pond is a large lake that sits to the east of Moose Mountain. Northeast Airlines Flight 946 crashed into the side of Moose Mountain in 1968, resulting in the deaths of 32 passengers and crew.

The Hanover Town Library, more commonly known as the Etna Library, is a historic library located at 130 Etna Road in Hanover, New Hampshire, United States. It primarily serves the Etna section of the town; the Classical Revival building it occupies was the first purpose-built library building in the town, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is a modest brick building, designed by Dartmouth College professor Robert E. Fletcher and built in 1905.

The Hewitt House is a historic house on United States Route 4 in Enfield, New Hampshire. Built in 1871, it is a particularly fine example of late Italianate architecture, built for the manager of local woolen mills. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985, and included in the Enfield Village Historic District in 2010.

The Dartmouth Skiway is a ski area in the northeastern United States, in Lyme, New Hampshire. Located about twenty minutes northeast of Dartmouth College, it has thirty trails from easiest (green circle) to most difficult (black diamond) on over one hundred acres (40 ha) of skiable area.

Enfield is a town in Grafton County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 4,465 at the 2020 census. The town includes the villages of Enfield, Enfield Center, Upper Shaker Village, Lower Shaker Village, Lockehaven, and Montcalm. Enfield village, the primary settlement in town, where 1,571 people resided at the 2020 census, is defined as the Enfield census-designated place (CDP), centered on U.S. Route 4 and the inlet of the Mascoma River into Mascoma Lake.

Etna, originally named "Mill Village", is a small community within the town of Hanover, New Hampshire, in the United States. It is located in southwestern Grafton County, approximately 3 miles (4.8 km) east of Hanover's downtown and 2.5 mi (4.0 km) south of the village of Hanover Center, on Mink Brook. Etna has a separate ZIP code 03750 from the rest of Hanover, as well as its own fire station, general store, ball field, playground, church, and library with adjacent conserved land and bird sanctuary. The population within Etna's ZIP Code area was 870 at the 2010 census.Commerce revolves around the Etna General Store and the Etna Post Office. The Appalachian Trail passes a mile or so north of the village before it turns northeast to cross Moose Mountain on its way to Lyme. Etna can be accessed from NH Rt. 120 via Greensboro Road or Great Hollow Road (Etna Road, north of the Lebanon exit (number 18) from Interstate 89), or from Hanover via Trescott Road (E. Wheelock Street). Etna was the site of the 2001 murders of Dartmouth College professors Half and Susanne Zantop, dubbed the Dartmouth Murders.

Lyme Center is an unincorporated community in the town of Lyme in Grafton County, New Hampshire, in the United States. It is located close to the geographic center of the town of Lyme, approximately 2 miles (3 km) east of New Hampshire Route 10 where it passes through the main village of Lyme. The center of the village is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Lyme Center Historic District. Lyme Center has a separate ZIP code (03769) from the rest of the town of Lyme.

Enfield is a census-designated place (CDP) and the main village in the town of Enfield in Grafton County, New Hampshire, United States. The population of the CDP was 1,571 at the 2020 census, out of 4,465 in the entire town.

On January 27, 2001, Dartmouth College professors Half and Susanne Zantop, aged 62 and 55 respectively, were stabbed to death at their home in Etna, New Hampshire. Originally from Germany, the couple had been teaching at Dartmouth since the 1970s. High school classmates James J. Parker, age 16, and Robert W. Tulloch, age 17, were charged with first-degree murder.Parker pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in exchange for testifying against Tulloch, and was sentenced to 25 to life. Tulloch pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and received the mandatory sentence of life imprisonment without parole. In 2014 the New Hampshire Supreme Court ordered Tulloch's sentence reviewed.

The Ompompanoosuc River is a river, about 25 mi (40 km) long, in eastern Vermont in the United States. It is a tributary of the Connecticut River, which flows to Long Island Sound. According to the Geographic Names Information System, the river has also been known by the names "Om-pom-pa-noos-uc" and "Pompanoosuc."The Ompompanoosuc River rises in eastern Orange County in the town of Vershire, and flows generally southwardly through the towns of West Fairlee and Thetford into northeastern Windsor County, where it joins the Connecticut River in the village of Pompanoosuc which is located in the town of Norwich.In Thetford, the river is dammed by the Union Village Dam, which was built from 1946 to 1950 as part of a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers project for flood control. The structure is a 170-foot-high earthen dam, creating a seasonal lake in the winter.The West Branch Ompompanoosuc River flows generally southeastwardly through the towns of Vershire and Strafford to Thetford, where it joins the main stem of the river.
