Neeltje Jans

The Oosterscheldekering (pronounced [oːstərˌs̺xɛldəˈkɪːrɪŋ] English: Eastern Scheldt storm surge barrier), between the islands Schouwen-Duiveland and Noord-Beveland, is the largest of the Delta Works, a series of dams and storm surge barriers, designed to protect the Netherlands from flooding from the North Sea. The construction of the Delta Works was a response to the widespread damage and loss of life in the North Sea flood of 1953.

Deltapark Neeltje Jans is a Dutch theme park located on the former artificial island Neeltje Jans at the Oosterschelde. In addition to the attractive nature of the Deltapark Neeltje Jans, it also plays an educational role with respect to the Delta Works.

The Delta Works (Dutch: Deltawerken) is a series of construction projects in the southwest of the Netherlands to protect a large area of land around the Rhine–Meuse–Scheldt delta from the sea. Constructed between 1954 and 1997, the works consist of dams, sluices, locks, dykes, levees, and storm surge barriers located in the provinces of South Holland and Zeeland. The aim of the dams, sluices, and storm surge barriers was to shorten the Dutch coastline, thus reducing the number of dikes that had to be raised. Along with the Zuiderzee Works, the Delta Works have been declared one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World by the American Society of Civil Engineers.

Kampensnieuwland or Kampernieuwland is a former municipality in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It existed until 1816, when it merged into the municipality of Wissenkerke.The municipality covered a number of polders north and northwest of the village of Kamperland. The area is now a part of the municipality of Noord-Beveland.

On January 1, 1997, Westerschouwen merged with Brouwershaven, Bruinisse, Duiveland, Middenschouwen, and Zierikzee to form the new municipality of Schouwen-Duiveland.

Westenschouwen was a separate municipality until 1816, when it was merged into Burgh.Westenschouwen was home to 88 people in 1840. The hamlet is mainly known its beach.

Noord-Beveland (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈnoːrd ˌbeːvəlɑnt] (listen); "North Beveland") is a municipality and region in the southwestern Netherlands and a former island, now part of the Walcheren-Zuid-Beveland-Noord-Beveland peninsula. Noord-Beveland is enclosed by the Oosterschelde estuary to the north, and the former straits, now combined lake, of Veerse Meer and Zandkreek to the south. As part of the Delta Works, dams have connected Noord-Beveland to Walcheren and Zuid-Beveland.

Burgh is a village in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It is connected to Haamstede, and therefore generally considered to be part of the village Burgh-Haamstede.

Stroodorp is a hamlet in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It is a part of the municipality of Noord-Beveland, and lies about 11 km northeast of Middelburg.Stroodorp is not a statistical entity, and the postal authorities have placed it under Kamperland. The hamlet consists of about 35 houses, but most are holiday homes, and only 6 are permanently inhabited.The hamlet was first mentioned in 1847 as Strooijedorp (Het), and means "straw village" after the straw covering of the temporary houses of the people who poldered the land.

Burghsluis is a hamlet in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It is a part of the municipality of Schouwen-Duiveland, and lies about 22 km north of Middelburg.Burghsluis is not a statistical entity, and the postal authorities have placed it under Burgh-Haamstede. It has place signs and a little harbour. It was home to 89 people in 1840. Nowadays, it consists of about 30 houses.The Plompe Toren is located near Burghsluis which is the sole reminder of the flooded village Koudekerke. Around 1550 dikes were built, but the village of Koudekerke was left outside the dike. The village was demolished and used as building material except for the tower of the church which remained standing.
