It is a part of the municipality of Schouwen-Duiveland, and lies about 22 km north of Middelburg.Burghsluis is not a statistical entity, and the postal authorities have placed it under Burgh-Haamstede. It has place signs and a little harbour. It was home to 89 people in 1840. Nowadays, it consists of about 30 houses. The Plompe Toren is located near Burghsluis which is the sole reminder of the flooded village Koudekerke.
