Sequoyah High School is a public high school located in Hickory Flat, Georgia, United States. It educates students in grades 9–12. It opened in the fall of 1990 and is one of six high schools in Cherokee County. The school is informally located in the small neighborhood of Hickory Flat on a three-school plot of land dubbed the Ralph Quarles Educational Complex, consisting of Hickory Flat Elementary, Dean Rusk Middle, and Sequoyah High School. The complex is on the northwest block of the intersection of East Cherokee Drive and Hickory Road. Preliminary schools in the Sequoyah cluster are Hickory Flat, Indian Knoll, Mountain Road, and Holly Springs Elementaries, and Dean Rusk Middle School. In athletics the school participates in Classification AAAA, Region/Area 7.

Buffington is an unincorporated community in Cherokee County, Georgia, United States. It began as the location of Fort Buffington, one of the Cherokee Removal Forts used to contain the Cherokee before the beginning of the Trail of Tears in 1838. After this time, Fort Buffington was either dismantled or fell into ruin, and only a state historical marker along State Route 20 stands to identify its former site. Today, Buffington is transforming from a rural to suburban community.

Cherokee Christian Schools is a private Christian school in Woodstock, Georgia, United States enrolling students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. Its primary organization includes the Academy (kindergarten, elementary, and middle) and the High School. The Administration of CCS includes a board of directors, a superintendent, and principals of the elementary, middle school and high school. Until recently, it was a traditional school, in that students attended five days a week and followed a period schedule and calendar similar to local public schools. As of August 2023, the school now follows a block schedule.

Lyndon Academy is a private international college preparatory school located in the southeast portion of Cherokee County in the Woodstock, Georgia, area near Marietta and Atlanta, in the United States. Its advanced college preparatory program is designed to educate the whole student. Starting in kindergarten, students study in multiple languages daily, advance in mathematics, engage in science projects, use technology, participate in the arts, become active citizens, participate in clubs, and compete in athletics. They perform concerts every semester. As of the 2015–2016 school year, Lyndon Academy offers grades kindergarten through 12th grade. Lyndon Academy is accredited by SACS-CASI, which is an accreditation division of AdvancED.

Mountain Park is a city primarily in the western part of northern Fulton County in the U.S. state of Georgia, with a small portion extending less than 1,000 feet (300 m) into southeastern Cherokee County. As of the 2020 census, the city had a total population of 583. Incorporated in 1927, it is essentially an eclectic neighborhood, and is designated a wildlife refuge. There is no zoning for commercial or business uses, only residential. Law enforcement is provided by the Roswell Police Department on a contract basis.

WCHK (1290 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station broadcasting a Spanish-language Latin pop radio format, known as "La Mega." Licensed to Canton, Georgia, it serves Metro Atlanta. The call sign stands for Cherokee, the county of which Canton is the seat of government, largest city, and geographic center. The station is currently owned by Davis Broadcasting of Atlanta, L.L.C. By day, WCHK is powered at 10,000 watts, using a non-directional antenna. But at night, to protect other stations on 1290 AM, it switches to a directional antenna and greatly reduces power to 500 watts. The transmitter is on Keith Drive, near Interstate 575 and Hickory Log Creek in Canton. WCHK is also heard on two FM translator stations: 96.5 W243CE in Winder and 105.1 W286DU in Canton.
