Old Dillard High School

Provident Hospital was a small facility, located at 1409 Sixth Avenue in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It was founded in 1938 by two African-American physicians, Von D. Mizell and James Sistrunk; none of the existing hospitals in Fort Lauderdale would accept African-American patients. In 1937, a young black man named John McBride was shot in the stomach by a car full of white men rumored to be members of the Ku Klux Klan. Hospitals in the area near the Pompano Beach shooting at first refused to admit him. A black physician, Dr. Von D. Mizell, ultimately persuaded one of them to take him in. But the hospital later insisted on moving McBride to a rundown sanitarium, where he soon died. The hospital was torn down by the city after the city's hospitals were integrated after passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and Medicare refused to support segregated hospitals. The building was replaced by the Mizell Center, a community center.

Fort Lauderdale (; also spelled Ft. Lauderdale) is a coastal city located in the U.S. state of Florida, 25 miles (40 km) north of Miami along the Atlantic Ocean. It is the county seat of and largest city in Broward County with a population of 182,760 as of the 2020 Census making it the tenth largest city in Florida. Fort Lauderdale is the second largest and one of three principal cities comprising the Miami metropolitan area with a population of 6,166,488. Built in 1838 and first incorporated in 1911, Fort Lauderdale is named after a series of forts built by the United States during the Second Seminole War. The forts took their name from Major William Lauderdale (1782–1838), younger brother of Lieutenant Colonel James Lauderdale. Development of the city did not begin until 50 years after the forts were abandoned at the end of the conflict. Three forts named "Fort Lauderdale" were constructed including the first at the fork of the New River, the second at Tarpon Bend on the New River between the present-day Colee Hammock and Rio Vista neighborhoods, and the third near the site of the Bahia Mar Marina.Known as the “Venice of America," Fort Lauderdale has 165-miles of inland waterways across the city. In addition to tourism, Fort Lauderdale has a diversified economy including marine, manufacturing, finance, insurance, real estate, high technology, avionics/aerospace, film, and television production. The city is a popular tourist destination with an average year-round temperature of 75.5 °F (24.2 °C) and 3,000 hours of sunshine per year. Greater Fort Lauderdale, encompassing all of Broward County, hosted more than 13 million overnight visitors in 2018. Each year nearly 4 million cruise passengers pass through its Port Everglades, making it the third largest cruise port in the world. With over 50,000 registered yachts and 100 marinas, Fort Lauderdale is also known as the yachting capital of the world."

Fort Lauderdale Fire-Rescue Department is the fire and rescue service provider for the City of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, as well as the cities of Wilton Manors and Lazy Lake through service contracts. Additionally the FLFRD is responsible for ARFF at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport. In 2013, the department responded to 44,387 calls for service.

The Broward Center for the Performing Arts (commonly known as the Broward Center) is a large multi-venue performing arts center located in downtown Fort Lauderdale, Florida, United States. Opened in 1991 on a 5.5-acre (22,000 m2) site along the north bank of the New River at Sailboat Bend, the center became a catalyst for major downtown revitalization efforts and an anchor of the Riverwalk Arts and Entertainment District.Designed by Benjamin C. Thompson, the Broward Center hosts operas, ballets, concerts, plays, lectures and numerous community events in its four theaters. The Broward Center is partners in the arts with several organizations, including the Symphony of the Americas, Florida Grand Opera, Miami City Ballet, Concert Association of Florida, Gold Coast Jazz. National tours of Broadway productions are presented in partnership with Broadway Across America. Broward Center for the Performing Arts is in the downtown riverfront area, in the South Florida region. In the process, it has also become one of the USA's most-visited theaters, ranked number four in the world by Venues Today and seven worldwide by concert trade publication Pollstar for annual sales in 2007.As of 2011, the Broward Center receives over 700,000 patrons annually with over 700 different events. Plans were also announced for an expansion to the center to begin in spring 2012.

Fort Lauderdale station is an inter-city rail station located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It is served by Brightline, which connects Miami, West Palm Beach, and eventually Orlando International Airport. The station is located in downtown Fort Lauderdale, on NW 2nd Avenue between Broward Boulevard and NW 4th Street, adjacent to the Broward County Transit's Central Terminal.

Girls' Club Foundation (Girls' Club) is a privately funded non-profit foundation providing an art gallery and exhibition space in the center of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, United States. Contemporary art works in painting, drawing, photography and video are presented in curated, thematic exhibitions, including works loaned from other collectors, galleries and artists. Girls' Club exhibits works predominantly but not exclusively by female artists and is, "the only private collection in the world dedicated to exhibiting contemporary art by women." The exhibits present artists from a wide range of ethnic groups including those drawn from the local art community and established artists from around the world. Girls’ Club exhibitions are free and open to the public, and are generally on view for a full year.

The Snow-Reed Swing Bridge is one of the oldest bridges in the Fort Lauderdale area, and one of the few remaining swing bridges in Florida. Located between the 300 and 500 block of Southwest 11th (Palm) Avenue in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the bridge connects the neighborhoods of Sailboat Bend and Riverside Park. In 1989 it was officially renamed and designated a historic landmark .

The New River Inn is a historic site in Fort Lauderdale, Florida located at 231 Southwest 2nd Avenue. The New River Inn was constructed in 1905 by the area's first contractor Edwin T. King. It was commissioned by Nathan Philemon Bryan, a Jacksonville native and US senator. It is one of the very earliest hotel in the Fort Lauderdale area.

The Fort Lauderdale History Center is a museum complex operated by the Fort Lauderdale Historical Society that is located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The complex includes the 1905 New River Inn, a former hotel which now houses the main museum of local history. In addition to dioramas, artifacts, displays and photographs, the museum features one room decorated to appear as a typical hotel room of 1908. The 1907 King-Cromartie House has been furnished as a historic house museum of 1915, and is open by guided tour. The 1899 Replica School House is also open by tour, and was originally constructed in the 1970s as an American Bicentennial project.The Fort Lauderdale Historical Society also maintains a public research library and archives of the history of Greater Fort Lauderdale. The museum was formerly known as the Old Fort Lauderdale Village and Museum.

Riverwalk, also known as the Fort Lauderdale Riverwalk, is a riverwalk along New River in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Its length is over a mile and goes from the Sailboat Bend neighborhood to near the Stranahan House. It is in the former club district in downtown Fort Lauderdale. There are two main streets that run through the district, Las Olas Boulevard and Himmarshee Street. In addition to the bars and clubs, there used to be restaurants, cafes, and a movie theater. It is being redeveloped into a residential area. The concept of the riverwalk was first proposed in 1926. After a 1986 bond issue, it started being developed and the first section was completed in 1990.One area of Riverwalk is known as "Himmarshee Village", which is down Himmarshee Street passing the train-tracks. There are several bars, clubs, cafes, and restaurants. The Himmarshee Village was developed n the late 60s as a peaceful village dwelling. The New River canal ran adjacent to the Village, where the locals fished or set traps for blue crab. Other nearby landmarks includes the Museum of Science & Discovery.There is also a park that runs along with waterfront that is home to many festivals and events.

Bridgescape, formerly known as EdisonLearning, is an operator of alternative schools, sometimes referred to as dropout recovery schools, in the U.S. According to a ProPublica report, by 2013, Bridgescape operated 17 schools in six states including "options" schools in Chicago, Illinois. Bridgescape cut or left unfilled 40% of its staff positions in 2018. These were positions as career counsellors, teachers, social workers and college counsellors. It has spent $1200 of every $8000 budgeted per student on its software, yet it has been criticized for its reliance on online learning. A 2017 review of the Bridgescape-run Madison Alternative Center questioned whether students learned standards through the online model. Bridgescape has also been criticized for collecting money to teach students who rarely attend its schools. Magic Johnson was involved in marketing Bridgescape schools.

The Fort Lauderdale Woman's Club is a women's club in downtown Fort Lauderdale, Florida. They completed their clubhouse building in 1917 which the National Register of Historic Places listed in 2019 as part of a Multiple Property Submission.
