Currently, Wells serves a large section of the inner and central areas of Chicago, with its attendance boundaries reaching as far north as Webster Avenue, as far south as 16th Street, as far east as Lake Michigan, and as far west as Sacramento Boulevard. This area includes sections of West Town, Bucktown, the Chicago Loop, the Near North Side, and the Near West Side.

It is a prime example of the so-called "Polish Cathedral style" of churches in both its opulence and grand scale.

The East Village Historic District is a historic district in the East Village neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. The district is primarily residential and includes the oldest portions of the neighborhood. German immigrants and German Americans settled and developed the district from 1870 to 1920. Settlers were drawn to the area due to its proximity to jobs, both in local businesses and in larger industries such as brewing. Many of the architects and builders of the district's homes were German as well; they generally built houses in vernacular styles using masonry. After 1920, the neighborhood became primarily Polish; its demographics shifted again in the 1960s due to Hispanic settlement.The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 8, 2009.

Grand was a rapid transit station on the Chicago "L"'s Logan Square branch, one of the several branches of the Metropolitan West Side Elevated Railroad. Located on Grand Avenue, the station was constructed by the Metropolitan in the early 1890s and began service on May 6, 1895. The Metropolitan, one of four companies that would build what became the Chicago "L", had many branches to serve Chicago's west side, including the Logan Square branch on which Grand lay. With some interruptions and financial issues, it operated these lines until 1911, when it handed operations to Chicago Elevated Railways, and formally merged into the Chicago Rapid Transit Company (CRT) in 1924. The "L" was taken over by the publicly-held Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) in 1947. A subway had been planned since the late 1930s to reach downtown in a more direct way than the portion of the Logan Square branch where Grand stood. This subway was originally intended to supplement the old elevated Logan Square branch, but the CTA sought to simplify its routing and saw no need for the old branch's continued existence. The subway opened on February 25, 1951, with a station of its own on Grand Avenue; the old Grand station was then closed along with the others on the affected part of the branch. The station and its trackage remained in non-revenue service until it was demolished and the property sold off in 1964. Grand was typical of the Metropolitan's stations, with two wooden side platforms and a brick station house at street level. For most of its existence it connected with a streetcar route that reached Navy Pier; both the "L" and streetcar had owl service. After the late 1910s it was also the lowest-ridership station on the Logan Square branch, and one the least-patronized on the entire "L".

ARC Gallery is an alternative exhibition space in Chicago, Illinois. Opening in 1973, it was one of the first women artists’ cooperatives in the Midwest along with Artemisia Gallery (another venerable Chicago women’s cooperative that opened on the same block that month). ARC stands for Artists, Residents, Chicago and is one of the longest running women’s cooperative galleries in the country. The original members, recent art school graduates, banded together because they found few female mentors and exhibition opportunities. Through ARC, the members were able to promote their own artwork, feature solo and group exhibitions by many artists from across the county, and create discourse around feminism, art, theory, and practice. In 1979, ARC founded RAWspace, a raw part of the gallery dedicated to exhibiting installation work by visiting artists, selected by ARC members. RAWspace was one of the pioneering spaces in Chicago for the exhibition of installation work.The founding members of the ARC Gallery were Dalia Alekna, Jan Arnow, Gerda Meyer Bernstein, Judy Lerner Brice, Ellen Ferar, Imfriede Hogan Lagerkvist, Maxine Lowe, Mary Min, Kay Rosen, Civia Rosenberg Gina Rosenblum, Sara Skolnik Rosenbluth, Laurel Ross, Myra Toth, and Monika Wulfers.
