The Bay Area Technology School (BayTech) is a Charter school located in Oakland, California, United States. BayTech is a college prep middle and high school which serves 6th through 12th grade students from the East Bay Region. The school was established in 2004 by Willow Education Foundation.

Naval Hospital Oakland, also known as Oak Knoll Naval Hospital, was a U.S. naval hospital located in Oakland, California that opened during World War II (1942) and closed in 1996 as part of the 1993 Base Realignment and Closure program. The 167-acre (68 ha) site is bordered on three sides by Mountain Boulevard and Keller Avenue in the city's Oak Knoll section and its map coordinates are 37°46′05″N 122°08′46″W. Oak Knoll hospital was built during World War II for the purpose of treating American military personnel who had been wounded in the Pacific theater. In later years it also treated those who had been wounded in the Korean and Vietnam wars. The site was previously a golf course and country club which had closed during the Great Depression.A large main hospital building was started in 1965 and opened in 1968. The base was closed in 1996 in an official Navy ceremony.This building was imploded on 8 April 2011.

Castlemont High School is a public high school in Oakland, California, United States, originally known as East Oakland High School. It is part of the Oakland Unified School District. The Castlemont name was selected by a vote of the students.Castlemont High School was founded in 1929 in a medieval-style building. The architecture inspires many of the school traditions, such as the sports teams being named "Knights" and "Crusaders" and the school newspaper Ye Castle Crier. The motto is "Build on and make thy castles high and fair, rising upward to the skies." Its Basketball teams in, 1969, 1976, & 1979 were winners of the Tournament of Champions (T.O.C.), formerly the northern California championships, and its track team in 1975 Maurice Glass held high school indoor sprint record. In 1983, Derrick Adams took first place in the 130 lbs wrestling California State Championship, the only Oakland Section person to ever place first in his weight class. Former School Choir, "The Castleers", whose members in the 1970s toured the world performing a variety of songs that included R&B and gospel.

Leona Canyon Regional Open Space Preserve is a regional park located in Oakland, California that is part of the East Bay Regional Parks system. It is located off Keller Avenue near Oak Knoll Naval Hospital and it extends to Merritt College.

Bishop O'Dowd High School is a Catholic, co-educational, college preparatory school in Oakland, California, administered by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Oakland and named for the late auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of San Francisco, James T. O'Dowd (1907–1950). The school requires all students to attend school liturgies (Catholic Mass and prayer services), to enroll in religious studies courses each semester, and to complete its 4-year service learning program. O’Dowd is a Catholic high school community of 1,212 students. The school has 129 faculty and staff members and more than 82 part-time coaches, teachers and moderators.

Grass Valley is a neighborhood in Oakland, California. Located in East Oakland in the hills east of Bishop O'Dowd High School and the Oakland Zoo. It straddles upper Golf Links Road and lies just west of Skyline Road's end. It is adjacent to the Lake Chabot Golf Course. It is home to Fire Station #28, Grass Valley Elementary School and East Bay Bible Church.

Barack Obama Academy is a small alternative middle school in Oakland, California. It is part of the Oakland Unified School District. It became notable as the first middle school in the United States to be officially named or renamed after US President Barack Obama in March 2009. The middle school, which opened in 2007, was formerly known as the Alternative Learning Community. The name change was prompted by the school's students.As of 2011 it had 24 students, most of whom were low income African Americans.

On July 12, 2018, the Oakland Zoo opened the California Trail, focusing on the state's remarkable native wildlife—both past and present.

Sequoyah Heights is a smaller part of the Oak Knoll neighborhood that runs alongside the southeastern part of the Oakland hills. The neighborhood borders San Leandro. Sequoyah Heights is one of East Oakland's safer and more well-to-do neighborhoods, and features a religious preschool and the Sequoyah Country Club. Sequoyah Heights neighbors the Grass Valley neighborhood, home of the Oakland Zoo, the Seminary neighborhood and the site of the now closed Oak Knoll Naval Hospital.

Ridgemont is a neighborhood in Oakland, California, next to Merritt College along Campus Drive, the main thoroughfare at the ridgeline. First developed in the 1970s and 1980s, the neighborhood (one of the last undeveloped parcels in the city of Oakland at the time) began as a subdivision of large, pre-designed, fairly uniform, redwood suburban-style homes. As the Ridgemont subdivision grew, new construction brought to it large estates, both subdivision planned and individual architect-designed. These, the largest homes of the neighborhood, were placed on the neighborhood crest and nearby highest points of the hillsides to take advantage of three-bridge views of the Bay. A newer subdivision,"Monte Vista Homes," on the lower slopes below the Ridgemont subdivision, commenced in 2005 as Desilva, a real estate developer, began building on slopes of the defunct Leona quarry (also known as the Alma pyrite mine). In preparation for the new subdivision, the development team subcontracted land restoration teams so that the former quarry underwent extensive land recovery ––including the replanting of fire-resistant, native plants for soil retention and beautification––prior to homes construction. But the quarry's outlines – the massive carving out of the hillside over decades – is still visible from as far away as San Francisco. A wildfire consumed about twenty acres in the district on September 26, 2017, directly threatening numerous ridgeline estates, before Oakland Fire Department crews, aided by an air tanker and helicopters which drew water from nearby San Leandro Reservoir, quickly extinguished the blaze. No structures were burned.

Joseph Knowland State Arboretum and Park is a park located in the Grass Valley neighborhood of Oakland, California. It was formerly a state park, and is now the property of the City of Oakland. The Oakland Zoo occupies the developed western lowlands of the park, just off I-580.

Sequoyah Country Club is an 18 hole, private equity, member-owned golf course and country club in Oakland, California. Founded in 1913, it hosted the Oakland Open from 1938 to 1944 – one of the premier professional golf tournaments on the Pacific coast, which featured prominently in the early golfing careers of Ben Hogan, Sam Snead, Byron Nelson, Jimmy Demaret, and others.
