Naval Hospital Oakland, also known as Oak Knoll Naval Hospital, was a U.S. naval hospital located in Oakland, California that opened during World War II (1942) and closed in 1996 as part of the 1993 Base Realignment and Closure program. The 167-acre (68 ha) site is bordered on three sides by Mountain Boulevard and Keller Avenue in the city's Oak Knoll section and its map coordinates are 37°46′05″N 122°08′46″W. Oak Knoll hospital was built during World War II for the purpose of treating American military personnel who had been wounded in the Pacific theater. In later years it also treated those who had been wounded in the Korean and Vietnam wars. The site was previously a golf course and country club which had closed during the Great Depression.A large main hospital building was started in 1965 and opened in 1968. The base was closed in 1996 in an official Navy ceremony.This building was imploded on 8 April 2011.

The Millsmont neighborhood located in the foothills of Oakland, California encompasses the area of East Oakland to the south and east of Mills College. Seminary Avenue is considered the northern border, and Edwards Avenue the approximate southern border; MacArthur Boulevard bounds it to the west, and Interstate 580 to the east. It lies at an elevation of 239 feet (73 m). Originally a bedroom, almost resort community around the turn of the century, Millsmont (especially between Seminary Avenue and Edwards Avenue and Hillmont Drive and Mountain Boulevard) was built up as a place to get away from the faster pace of San Francisco. Being heavily wooded, it was an ideal place to buy land to which to escape on the weekends. Quarter-acre plots were available, including building plans and materials, for $500. Four standard plans were used to build quaint, one-bedroom dwellings. An original, unaltered house may be seen on the northeastern corner of Edgemoor Place and Sunnymere Avenue. Many Millsmont homes have panoramic views to Alameda and the San Francisco Peninsula to the west and the Oakland hills to the east. After the earthquake of 1906, many individuals who had been left homeless and penniless settled in their small properties in the Millsmont neighborhood. Additions were built, and the landscape gradually changed. Today, Millsmont is an eclectic neighborhood, with first-time homeowners; older, established residents (a significant number of families having owned their homes for over 40 years); and students and faculty/staff associated with Mills College. Eastmont is a neighborhood in Oakland, the county seat of Alameda County, California. It lies at an elevation of 95 feet (29 m). It was formerly an unincorporated community. The Eastmont Town Center shopping mall and social services center is located in the neighborhood, at 73rd Avenue where Foothill and MacArthur Boulevards meet. The name of MacArthur Boulevard was changed from Excelsior in honor of World War II hero General of the Army Douglas MacArthur. On March 21, 2009, 2 blocks south of the mall, four Oakland police officers were killed, along with their assailant. This was among the deadliest attacks on law enforcement in California history.Evergreen Cemetery is located there, and is the burial place for unclaimed victims of the Jonestown mass killing.

Old Survivor, also known as the Grandfather Tree, is the last remaining old-growth coastal redwood of the redwood forest that once populated the Oakland Hills in California.

Eastmont Town Center is a shopping mall and social services hub located on 33 acres (130,000 m2) bounded by Foothill Boulevard, Bancroft Avenue, 73rd Avenue, and Church Street, in the Frick neighborhood of East Oakland. The mall opened in phases between 1966 and 1974 on the site of a 1920s-era Chevrolet automobile factory called Oakland Assembly (itself shut down in 1963 with General Motors moving operations to a new plant in suburban Fremont). Architect William Pereira designed the building. It is physically almost next to, and by entry access a few blocks away from the similarly sized Evergreen Cemetery. The official grand opening ceremony was held in November of 1970.

Aurelia Reinhardt Alumnae Memorial House is a building on the campus of Mills College in Oakland, California. It was designed by architect Clarence W. Mayhew, and named after college president Aurelia Henry Reinhardt. It was completed in 1949. Mayhew's design gave it "gabled roofs, wide eaves, and easy access to gardens" considered "fundamentally Californian design".
