RAF Lydd

Walland Marsh is a part of Romney Marsh, mostly in Kent with part in East Sussex. The name means wall-land: its north-eastern border, separating it from the rest of Romney Marsh, is the Rhee Wall.The Rhee Wall is 7.5 miles long and runs from Appledore, through Brenzett and Old Romney to New Romney; it consists of two parallel earth banks, from 50 to 100 metres apart, the ground between being raised above the marsh on either side. It was built in the 13th century, as a watercourse to wash away silt from the harbour at New Romney. The plan eventually failed; the Rhee Wall has not contained water since medieval times.Walland Marsh is bordered in the south-east by Lydd (beyond which is Denge Marsh) and in the south-west by Rye. The villages of Fairfield, Brookland and East Guldeford are within the region.The marsh was turned into productive farm land in past centuries. The land of Walland Marsh was reclaimed mostly from the 13th to 15th century, later than that of Romney Marsh to the north-east. The reclamation was done in stages by creating innings: an embankment was built round an area of marsh, which would drain at low tide.To retain the productive land, drainage channels, known locally as sewers, were created. A notable example is White Kemp Sewer, which runs across the centre of the marsh, and flows into Jury's Gap Sewer; this leads to the coast at Jury's Gap, near Camber Sands.

Lydd Ranges is a military firing range south of Lydd, in Kent, England, extending as far as the south coast. It has been used for military training for over 150 years and is part of the Dungeness, Romney Marsh and Rye Bay Site of Special Scientific Interest. Because the range is used for live firing, access is sometimes restricted - red flags are flown during these times, and access is prohibited along the foreshore and Galloways Road. Also, red lights are shown at restricted times if there is poor weather. The danger area extends out to sea, and mariners sailing to and from Rye Harbour must pass south of the Stephenson Shoal to avoid it. Firing occurs about 300 days a year. When firing is not taking place, it may be possible to walk along a designated path along the shore.

Brookland Halt was a railway station which served the village of Brookland in Kent, England. The station opened in 1881 and closed in 1967.

Brookland is a village and civil parish in the Folkestone and Hythe district of Kent, England, about 5 miles (8 km) west of New Romney. According to the 2001 census the parish had a population of 453, increasing to 479 at the 2011 Census. It is located on the A259 road in Romney Marsh and become popular with visitors heading to the Laughing Frog Teas Rooms.

St Augustine's Church is a Grade I listed Anglican church in the village of Brookland, Kent, in Walland Marsh, about 5 miles (8.0 km) north-east of Rye, East Sussex. It was originally built about 1250. It has the unusual feature that the bell tower is separate from the rest of the church. The church is dedicated to St Augustine, the first Archbishop of Canterbury.

The Little Cheyne Court Wind Farm is located 7 kilometres (4.3 miles) west of Lydd on Romney Marsh. It was built by npower renewables and cost around £50 million. The 26 wind turbines, each 115 metres (377 ft) high, are distributed over an area of 4 km2 (1.5 sq mi) with peak generation of 59.8 MW.

The Red Lion is a three-roomed Grade II listed public house at Snargate, Kent, TN29 9UQ.It is on the Campaign for Real Ale's National Inventory of Historic Pub Interiors.It was built in the 18th century.A Finn's of Lydd Brewery, Style & Winch Brewery and later Courage Brewery house which has been in the continuous proprietorship of the Jemisons since 1911, variously named Alf's, Alf's, Doris's and Kate's representing each subsequent licensee from that family. The Jemison family bought the freehold of the pub from Courage in the 1970s. Real ales and ciders are sold, being poured on gravity dispense from casks in the public bar.

Snargate is a village near New Romney in Kent, England. Snargate was home to artist Harold Gilman, sometimes called the English Van Gogh. He was a British Impressionist and a member of the Camden Town Group. He grew up at Snargate Rectory, where his father was rector. Harold was born in 1876, and lived at the Rectory till his thirties, when he brought his bride Grace to live there, for the first two years of their marriage, 1902–04. His father continued to live there till his death in 1917. Harold Gilman only lived two years longer, dying in 1919 as one of the numerous victims of the so-called Spanish Influenza outbreak at the end of the First World War. Snargate has a well known pub, The Red Lion, which originates from the early 16th century and has been run by the current family since 1911 and, except for the odd lick of paint, has not been redecorated since 1890. This is a tiny pub with an antique marble bar top and bare wooden floor. The draught beers, principally from independent Kentish brewers, are served directly from the cask. The walls are decorated with World War II era memorabilia. The pub, run by Doris Jemison until her death in April 2016 and now by her daughter Kate, has won a number of awards including CAMRA's Ashford Folkestone and Romney Marsh Branch Pub of the Year, the Kent CAMRA Pub of the Year, and the South East Regional Pub of the Year. It is a Grade II listed public house, and is on the Campaign for Real Ale's National Inventory of Historic Pub Interiors.

Camber is a village and civil parish in the Rother district of East Sussex, England, 3 miles (4.8 km) south-east of Rye. The village is located behind the sand dunes that occupy the estuary of the River Rother, where the seaside settlement of Camber Sands is situated. The village of Camber takes its name from the Camber (la Chambre) the huge embayment of the English Channel located between Rye, old Winchelsea and Old Romney that was gradually lost to "innings" and silting-up following changes to the coastline and the changed course of the Eastern Rother since the Middle Ages.

Fairfield is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Snargate, in the Folkestone and Hythe district of Kent, England. In 1931 the parish had a population of 61. On 1 April 1934 the parish was abolished and merged with Snargate, part also went to Stone cum Ebony. The area lies west of the village of Brookland. It is in the Church of England parish of Brookland and Fairfield on Walland Marsh (part of Romney Marsh).

The Bowlie Weekender was a music festival curated by Belle & Sebastian at the Pontin's Holiday camp in Camber Sands, Sussex between Friday 23 and Sunday 25 April 1999. The event was the inspiration for All Tomorrow's Parties, a music festival held at the same venue in Sussex every year from 2000 until it moved to Butlin's Minehead in 2006. As part of the festival's tenth year celebrations, Belle & Sebastian was invited to curate an ATP weekend in December 2010, dubbed "Bowlie 2".In August 2019, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the first festival, Belle & Sebastian held a third festival, dubbed the "Boaty Weekender". Unlike the previous two festivals, the Boaty Weekender was held on the Norwegian Pearl cruise ship in the Mediterranean Sea (sailing from Barcelona) instead of Camber Sands.

Camber Sands is a beach in East Sussex, England, in the village of Camber, near Rye. It is the only sand dune system in East Sussex, and is east of the estuary of the River Rother at Rye Bay stretching 3 miles (4.8 km) to just beyond the Kent border, where shingle and pebbles take over again. It is one of three stretches of non-tidally submerged sand east of Poole Bay, which just exceeds the three in total length, on England's south coast, the others being West Wittering and Avon Beach. Two holiday resorts are near Camber Sands owned by Pontins and Parkdean Resorts just off New Lydd Road and Lydd Road respectively in the alighting village of Camber. The former closed with immediate effect as of 30th November 2023.
