James Bowie High School is a public high school in southwest Austin, Texas, named after Texan revolutionary James Bowie. With a student body of 2,875, Bowie is the largest school in the Austin Independent School District and the fourth largest secondary school in Central Texas. The school was established in 1988 on 60 acres (240,000 m2) of land donated to the school district by Circle C Ranch, which again in 2011 donated 100 acres (400,000 m2) for athletic purposes. James Bowie High School's principal is Mark Robinson.

Shady Hollow is a census-designated place (CDP) in southwestern Travis County, Texas, United States, and is partially in the City of Austin. It is located ten miles (16 km) southwest of Downtown Austin, near the Travis/Hays county line. The population was 5,004 at the 2010 census.

The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center at The University of Texas at Austin is the state botanical garden and arboretum of Texas. The center features more than 900 species of native Texas plants in both garden and natural settings and is home to a breadth of educational programs and events. The center is 284 acres and located 10 miles southwest of downtown Austin, Texas just inside the edge of the distinctive Texas hill country. It straddles both Edwards Plateau and Texas Blackland Prairies ecosystems. The center is dedicated to "inspiring the conservation of native plants" and promoting the environmental benefits of native plant landscapes. It is home to the most comprehensive native plant database in the U.S., which features profiles of more than 9,000 North American native plants along with a number of other resources (see Native Plants of North America). The Wildflower Center has 9 acres of cultivated gardens, including the Luci and Ian Family Garden and the Ann and O.J. Weber Pollinator Habitat Garden. Its 16-acre Mollie Steves Zachry Texas Arboretum features collections of tree and shrub species from across the state of Texas. Miles of walking trails, educational exhibits, a gift store, cafe and biannual sales of native plants round out the offerings. In 2013, the syndicated television series, Texas Country Reporter, hosted by Bob Phillips, declared the center the No. 1 site from which to view wildflowers within Texas.

Manchaca ( MAN-shak) is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Travis County, Texas, United States. It is located 10 miles (16 km) southwest of downtown Austin. This was a new CDP for the 2010 census with a population of 1,133.

Akins High School is located in South Austin, Texas, United States. The school is named after William Charles Akins, the first black teacher to work at a high school after desegregation in the Austin Independent School District (AISD). Akins was established in 2000, and is the newest zoned high school in AISD. With an enrollment over 2700, it is the 2nd largest school in AISD, behind Bowie High School. Akins High School competes on the 6A circuit in all of its UIL competitions.

Westgate is a neighborhood in Austin, Texas, located southwest of the city's urban core. It includes ZIP code 78745. Westgate's boundaries are Ben White Boulevard and the South Lamar and Barton Hills neighborhood to the north, Manchaca Road and the South Manchaca neighborhood on the east, Stassney Lane and the Garrison Park on the south and West Gate Boulevard and the city of Sunset Valley the west.From the period from the mid-1950s to the late 1960s, Westgate's development was largely residential and the area contains many single-family homes. However, by the late 1990s the Westgate Shopping Center at the intersection of Ben White Boulevard, Lamar Boulevard, and the Capital of Texas Highway was built.

Onion Creek Club in a 27 hole golf course located in Austin, Texas. Opened in 1974, it is the only golf course designed by Jimmy Demaret, three-time Masters winner. The course was restored by Coore & Crenshaw in 2014 after being destroyed by a flood the same year. The idea for a senior tour grew out of a highly successful event at Onion Creek Club in 1978. That event, the Legends of Golf, featured competition between two-member teams of some of the greatest older golfers of that day. The Senior PGA Tour was formally established in 1980. Onion Creek Club has hosted the Kathy Ireland Championship and qualifiers for the 2018 U.S. Senior Women's Open.
