Columbia Park (Seattle)

The former Fifth Church of Christ, Scientist, located at 3515 South Alaska Street (corner of 36th Avenue, South) in the Columbia City neighborhood in the Rainier Valley area of Seattle, Washington, is an historic Christian Science church edifice, whose original entrance was on 36th Avenue. South. Built in 1921. was designed by Earl A. Roberts in the Greek Revival and Neo-Palladian styles. It is a contributing property in the Columbia City Historic District, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 8, 1980. Fifth Church is no longer in existence. The building is now the Rainier Arts Center. The only major exterior change made by the center was the relocation of the front entrance to Alaska Street.

Columbia City is a neighborhood located in the southeastern part of Seattle, Washington in the Rainier Valley district. It has a landmark-protected historic business district and is one of the few Seattle neighborhoods with a long history of ethnic and income diversity.The neighborhood's main thoroughfares running north–south are Rainier Avenue S. and Martin Luther King Jr. Way S. The principal east–west thoroughfares are S. Alaska Street, S Orcas Street, and S. Genesee Street. Mass transit includes Sound Transit's Central Link light rail service from the Columbia City station (approx. 15 minutes to downtown Seattle and 20 minutes to SeaTac airport).

The Columbia City Historic District is a nationally recognized historic district located in the Columbia City neighborhood in the Rainier Valley area of Seattle, Washington. It is roughly bounded by South Hudson Street, South Alaska Street, 35th Avenue and Rainier Avenue. Its historic uses include specialty stores, multiple dwellings, single dwellings, meeting halls, schools, religious structures, and parks. Its architecture includes Mission Revival, Spanish Revival, Colonial Revival and other styles. On September 8, 1980, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Columbia City station is a light rail station located in Seattle, Washington. It is situated between the Othello and Mount Baker stations on the 1 Line, which runs from Seattle–Tacoma International Airport to Downtown Seattle and the University of Washington as part of the Link light rail system. The station consists of two at-grade side platforms between South Alaska Street and South Edmunds Street in the median of Martin Luther King Jr. Way South in the Columbia City neighborhood, part of Seattle's Rainier Valley. The station opened on July 18, 2009. Trains serve the station twenty hours a day on most days; the headway between trains is six minutes during peak periods, with less frequent service at other times. Columbia City station is also served by two King County Metro bus routes that connect it to Mount Baker, Renton and West Seattle.

Genesee Park is a 57.7-acre (0.234 km2) park in the Rainier Valley neighborhood of Seattle, Washington. A waterway, Wetmore Slough, before the lowering of Lake Washington by nine feet in 1917 as part of the construction of the Lake Washington Ship Canal, it was purchased by the city in 1947 and used as a dump until 1963. Development of the park began in 1968. It hosts the hydroplane races and aerobatics air show during the annual Seattle Seafair, in July–August. The L-shape park is bordered to the north by Lake Washington and the Stan Sayres Memorial Park/Mount Baker Rowing and Sailing Center, the south by a ridge inline with S. Alaska St., the east by 46th Ave. S. and the west by 43rd Ave. S. along its northern segment and 38th Ave. S. along its southern segment, with its namesake, S. Genesee St., traveling east–west through the middle of it. In the 1990s the Rainier Community Center was relocated across the street, from its previous home, onto Genesee Park at its westernmost edge. The park features a nature trail/wild bird habitat plus a large picnic shelter and open grass area on its northern segment, a sand upper-field for soccer plus an artificial turf lower-field for soccer and football along with a fenced-in dog park through its central segment, a circular walkabout in its southwest segment, and three child play areas (one north of S. Genesee St. at 44th Ave. S., one south of S. Genesee St. at 43rd Ave. S. and one at the Rainier Community Center). The two sports fields located just south of S. Genesee St. are equipped with stadium light poles to illuminate the field into the night as needed. During the first week of August, Genesee Park serves as the main entrance to hydroplane races and aerobatics air show festivities, part of Seattle's summer celebration known as Seafair, dating back to the 1950s.

The Rainier Valley ( ray-NEER) is a district in southeast Seattle. It is located east of Beacon Hill; west of Mount Baker, Seward Park, and Leschi; south of the Central District and north of Rainier Beach. It is part of Seattle's South End.

Lake People Park is a 1⁄2-acre (0.20 ha) park at 3070 S. Bradford Street in the Columbia City neighborhood of Seattle, Washington, just south of the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Way S. and Rainier Avenue S. In 2003, the land was donated to the Seattle Parks Foundation by Monte Powell, a developer who was responsible for much of the newer construction in the neighborhood. He decided to make the donation after attending a presentation on community-established parks. The property is made up of a flat upper area that drops off into a steep hill slope. Upon its donation, the lot was overgrown with blackberries, ivy, and other invasive plants. Neighbors of the park formed the Friends of Goat Hill and worked in partnership with Seattle Parks Foundation to clear the land and raise sufficient funds for landscaping, footpaths, park benches, boulders for informal seating, picnic tables, and interpretive signage. The completed park was dedicated in spring 2005, and for the three years following, maintenance was overseen by Seattle Parks Foundation. The park was then turned over to Seattle Parks and Recreation for ongoing stewardship. "Lake People" (Lushootseed: x̌ačuʔabš) was the name the local Indigenous people, now considered a subgroup of the Duwamish or Muckleshoot, historically used to refer to themselves.

KVRU-LP (105.7 FM) is a low-power local radio station in southeast Seattle, Washington. The station was formerly named Rainier Valley Radio after the Rainier Valley area, where it broadcasts. It is owned by Southeast Effective Development (SEED), a non-profit economic development agency serving southeastern Seattle, which raised $400,000 to fund the station. The station broadcasts from studios in the Rainier Square Plaza housing development. KVRU began broadcasting online in 2015 and launched on the FM frequency in September 2017.The station serves the Rainier Valley neighborhood of Seattle, along with portions of Mount Baker, Georgetown, and Mercer Island. Currently, it is managed by a community organizer named Luzviminda Uzuri Carpenter also known as Lulu Carpenter. She is a local producer, educator, and artist.
