Sagamore Beach, Massachusetts

Sagamore is a census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Bourne in Barnstable County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 3,623 at the 2010 census."Sagamore" was one of the words used by northeastern Native Americans to designate an elected chief or leader.

The Keith Car & Manufacturing Company is a former railroad car manufacturing company that was located in the village of Sagamore in Bourne, Massachusetts. Operational between 1846 and 1928, the plant employed up to 1,400 people at a time.

The Sagamore Bridge in Sagamore, Massachusetts carries Route 6 and the Claire Saltonstall Bikeway across the Cape Cod Canal, connecting Cape Cod with the mainland of Massachusetts. It is the more northeastern of two automobile canal crossings, the other being the Bourne Bridge. Most traffic approaching from the north follows Massachusetts Route 3 which ends at Route 6 just north of the bridge, and the bridge provides direct freeway connections from Boston and Interstate 93.

Cedarville is the southeasternmost village in Plymouth, Massachusetts, United States. It is bounded to the north by Ellisville Road and Hedges Pond, to the south by the town of Bourne, to the west by Little Herring Pond and Great Herring Pond, and to the east by Cape Cod Bay. The community was named for a cedar swamp near the original town site.

The Cape Cod Factory Outlet Mall was an outdoor mall located in Bourne, Massachusetts. It was first developed into a shopping center in 1972 as an indoor outlet mall, but by 2012 was developed into an outdoor plaza. When it was an indoor mall, it boasted approximately 25 shops, from outlets to local brands. The mall's grounds also once housed the original location of the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Cape Cod, as well as a former motel.The indoor mall was originally opened in 1972, with the original part being the area that housed the Carter's Childrenswear and Dress Barn. The mall then saw a major expansion in the late 1980s, when the main portion of the mall was added. In its heyday, it housed retailers such as Big Dog Sportswear, Osh Kosh B'Gosh, Buck-A-Book, and a Sbarro pizzeria. The mall mostly thrived throughout the 1990s, with its apparent decline starting in the early 2000s, after Wrentham Village Premium Outlets opened nearby, siphoning much of their business. Buck-A-Book closed their store in the Cape Cod Factory Outlet Mall when the local chain went out of business in September 2005, which left one of the mall's largest tenant spaces vacant for the remainder of the mall's operation. The mall then continued to steadily lose tenants and fall into a state of disrepair for its remaining years. By 2009, the mall was well under 50% occupation. For these reasons, the mall came to be regarded as a dead mall. The mall closed on July 4, 2011, after a decade of decreasing traffic and tenants, and before being razed. On September 12 of that year, it was announced that five stores (including Van Heusen, Izod, and Bass Outlet, but excluding Carter's) would return to the site, which was being rebuilt as a strip center anchored by Market Basket. Market Basket opened its store in June 2012.

Scusset Beach State Reservation is a state-operated, public recreation area located in the town of Sandwich in Barnstable County, Massachusetts, at the east end of the Cape Cod Canal on land formerly part of Sagamore Hill Military Reservation. In addition to its beach and campgrounds, prominent features of the park include Sagamore Hill, a one-time Native American meeting ground and site of World War II coastal fortifications, and a 3,000-foot (910 m) stone jetty that separates the canal and beach. Unlike most of Sandwich, this section of the town is on the mainland side of the Cape Cod Canal. The state park is managed by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation under a lease agreement with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

The Canal Generating Plant is a petroleum and natural gas electrical power station in Sandwich, Massachusetts. Canal 1, a baseload unit, began operation in 1968 and was for many years the most efficient oil burning plant in the US. Canal 2, a cycling unit began operation in the mid-1970s. The plant was bought by Mirant in 1999, now GenOn Energy Holdings division of NRG Energy. It is located on Cape Cod Canal. In its heyday, the Canal plant generated the vast majority of the Cape's power, but today functions only as a peaking plant. In an attempt to modernize the plant, the owners constructed a 330-megawatt Simple cycle natural gas plant capable of going online within 10 minutes, and a 1.5 MW solar array on the property. The third unit has the ability to run on #2 oil during cold periods in the winter when natural gas pipelines are constrained. In 2018 it was sold to private equity firm Ironclad Energy, a subsidiary of Stonepeak Infrastructure Partners.

Great Herring Pond is a 376-acre (1.5 km2) warm water pond mostly located in Plymouth, Massachusetts, with the southern portion extending into Bourne. The village of Pondville in the Cedarville section of Plymouth lies on the eastern shore of the pond. The pond has an average depth of 20 ft (6 m) and a maximum depth of 42 ft (13 m). The bottom is composed of sand, rubble and muck. A tire reef was installed in 1979 to provide additional fish shelter. The inflow comes from Little Herring Pond, and the outflow goes into the Herring River in Bourne. The Public Access Board gravel ramp in Bourne enters shallow water and is therefore best suited for canoes, inflatable and other shallow-draft, hand-carried craft. There have been multiple sightings of massive turtles on Great Herring Pond, 4–5 feet (1.2–1.5 m) long, floating downstream from Little Herring Pond under Carters Bridge.In colonial days, a large village of Christian Indians lived nearby in a place called Comassekumkanet, which means "on the other side of the prince's house" in Algonquin. Thomas Tupper, an early settler, preached to them though he was not ordained.

Bournedale station was a railroad station serving Bournedale, Massachusetts. Opened in 1848, it was relocated in 1911 during construction of the Cape Cod Canal and closed in the 1920s.

Shawme-Crowell State Forest is a Massachusetts state forest located in the town of Sandwich in Barnstable County. The forest lost much of its original acreage with the creation of Camp Edwards, which is part of the modern-day Joint Base Cape Cod. The forest is made up of pitch pine and scrub oaks and is managed by the Department of Conservation and Recreation.

The Bournedale Village School is a historic school building at 29 Herring Pond Road in Bourne, Massachusetts. Built in 1897, it was the last one-room schoolhouse built by the town, and is one of the few surviving 19th-century schoolhouses in all of Barnstable County. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013. The building is now used by the Bournedale Civic Association as a meeting space.

Bournedale is a village in the town of Bourne in Barnstable County, Massachusetts fronting Sagamore Beach, Buzzards Bay and the middle of the Cape Cod Canal. Along with Buzzards Bay and Sagamore Beach, it is one of only three communities in Barnstable County that are north of the Cape Cod Canal.
