Bournedale, Massachusetts

The Bournedale Village School is a historic school building at 29 Herring Pond Road in Bourne, Massachusetts. Built in 1897, it was the last one-room schoolhouse built by the town, and is one of the few surviving 19th-century schoolhouses in all of Barnstable County. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013. The building is now used by the Bournedale Civic Association as a meeting space.

Bournedale station was a railroad station serving Bournedale, Massachusetts. Opened in 1848, it was relocated in 1911 during construction of the Cape Cod Canal and closed in the 1920s.

The Cape Cod Canal is an artificial waterway in Massachusetts connecting Cape Cod Bay in the north to Buzzards Bay in the south, and is part of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway. The approximately 17.4-mile (28.0 km) long canal traverses the neck of land joining Cape Cod to the state's mainland. It mostly follows tidal rivers widened to 480 feet (150 m) and deepened to 32 feet (9.8 m) at mean low water, shaving up to 135 miles (217 km) off the journey around the Cape for its approximately 14,000 annual users.Most of the canal is located in the town of Bourne, but its northeastern terminus is in Sandwich. Scusset Beach State Reservation lies near the canal's north entrance, and the Massachusetts Maritime Academy is near its south. A swift-running current changes direction every six hours and can reach 5.2 miles per hour (8.4 km/h) during the receding ebb tide. The waterway is maintained by the United States Army Corps of Engineers and has no toll fees. It is spanned by the Cape Cod Canal Railroad Bridge, the Bourne Bridge, and the Sagamore Bridge. Traffic lights at either end govern the approach of vessels over 65 feet (20 m). The canal is occasionally used by whales and dolphins, including endangered North Atlantic right whales, which can cause closure of the canal.

The Cape Cod Factory Outlet Mall was an outdoor mall located in Bourne, Massachusetts. It was first developed into a shopping center in 1972 as an indoor outlet mall, but by 2012 was developed into an outdoor plaza. When it was an indoor mall, it boasted approximately 25 shops, from outlets to local brands. The mall's grounds also once housed the original location of the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Cape Cod, as well as a former motel.The indoor mall was originally opened in 1972, with the original part being the area that housed the Carter's Childrenswear and Dress Barn. The mall then saw a major expansion in the late 1980s, when the main portion of the mall was added. In its heyday, it housed retailers such as Big Dog Sportswear, Osh Kosh B'Gosh, Buck-A-Book, and a Sbarro pizzeria. The mall mostly thrived throughout the 1990s, with its apparent decline starting in the early 2000s, after Wrentham Village Premium Outlets opened nearby, siphoning much of their business. Buck-A-Book closed their store in the Cape Cod Factory Outlet Mall when the local chain went out of business in September 2005, which left one of the mall's largest tenant spaces vacant for the remainder of the mall's operation. The mall then continued to steadily lose tenants and fall into a state of disrepair for its remaining years. By 2009, the mall was well under 50% occupation. For these reasons, the mall came to be regarded as a dead mall. The mall closed on July 4, 2011, after a decade of decreasing traffic and tenants, and before being razed. On September 12 of that year, it was announced that five stores (including Van Heusen, Izod, and Bass Outlet, but excluding Carter's) would return to the site, which was being rebuilt as a strip center anchored by Market Basket. Market Basket opened its store in June 2012.

The Sagamore Bridge in Sagamore, Massachusetts carries Route 6 and the Claire Saltonstall Bikeway across the Cape Cod Canal, connecting Cape Cod with the mainland of Massachusetts. It is the more northeastern of two automobile canal crossings, the other being the Bourne Bridge. Most traffic approaching from the north follows Massachusetts Route 3 which ends at Route 6 just north of the bridge, and the bridge provides direct freeway connections from Boston and Interstate 93.

The Keith Car & Manufacturing Company is a former railroad car manufacturing company that was located in the village of Sagamore in Bourne, Massachusetts. Operational between 1846 and 1928, the plant employed up to 1,400 people at a time.

Sagamore is a census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Bourne in Barnstable County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 3,623 at the 2010 census."Sagamore" was one of the words used by northeastern Native Americans to designate an elected chief or leader.

Great Herring Pond is a 376-acre (1.5 km2) warm water pond mostly located in Plymouth, Massachusetts, with the southern portion extending into Bourne. The village of Pondville in the Cedarville section of Plymouth lies on the eastern shore of the pond. The pond has an average depth of 20 ft (6 m) and a maximum depth of 42 ft (13 m). The bottom is composed of sand, rubble and muck. A tire reef was installed in 1979 to provide additional fish shelter. The inflow comes from Little Herring Pond, and the outflow goes into the Herring River in Bourne. The Public Access Board gravel ramp in Bourne enters shallow water and is therefore best suited for canoes, inflatable and other shallow-draft, hand-carried craft. There have been multiple sightings of massive turtles on Great Herring Pond, 4–5 feet (1.2–1.5 m) long, floating downstream from Little Herring Pond under Carters Bridge.In colonial days, a large village of Christian Indians lived nearby in a place called Comassekumkanet, which means "on the other side of the prince's house" in Algonquin. Thomas Tupper, an early settler, preached to them though he was not ordained.

Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical School (also known as Upper Cape Tech, UCT, or simply Upper Cape) is a public vocational-technical high school located in Bourne, Massachusetts, United States. Opened in 1966, it serves over 720 students in 15 vocational areas of study. The school is approved by the Massachusetts Department of Education to offer Chapter 74 technical programs. As a regional school, Upper Cape Cod Tech functions as its own district and serves students from five nearby communities, all of which are located in the Upper Cape region of Cape Cod. Upper Cape Tech serves students from the towns of Bourne, Falmouth, Sandwich, Wareham, and Marion. The school's mascot is the Rams, and the school's colors are Royal Blue and White. Upper Cape Tech also hosts Doran Park, home field of the Cape Cod Baseball League's Bourne Braves.

Elbow Pond is a 16-acre (65,000 m2) pond in the Cedarville section of Plymouth, Massachusetts. The pond is located south of Island Pond and west of Great Herring Pond.

Doran Park is a baseball venue in Bourne, Massachusetts, the centerpiece of the Barry J. Motta Athletic Complex at Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical School, and home to the Bourne Braves of the Cape Cod Baseball League (CCBL). The Bourne Braves began play on the newly-constructed field in 2006, after having previously played home games at Coady School field and Massachusetts Maritime Academy's Hendy Field since the team's inception in 1988. In a 2007 Braves pre-game ceremony, the new ballpark was dedicated as "Doran Park" in memory of long-time baseball fan and Sagamore resident, George Doran, Sr., and was touted as "the model for the Cape League’s future." The following season, the Braves held a lighting ceremony to celebrate the park's new minor league caliber lighting system, a gift from the Doran family. Among the speakers at the 2008 event was former Bourne Brave and Boston Red Sox player Lou Merloni.Doran Park was host to the CCBL championship series in 2009, as the Braves defeated the Cotuit Kettleers to claim the first league championship in franchise history. In 2014, the CCBL all-star game festivities were held at Doran, the first time the Braves had hosted the event. The park again hosted the CCBL title series in 2017, as the Braves fell to the Brewster Whitecaps. The ballpark has been the summertime home of dozens of future major leaguers such as Mitch Moreland, Travis Jankowski, and Pete Alonso.

Cedarville is the southeasternmost village in Plymouth, Massachusetts, United States. It is bounded to the north by Ellisville Road and Hedges Pond, to the south by the town of Bourne, to the west by Little Herring Pond and Great Herring Pond, and to the east by Cape Cod Bay. The community was named for a cedar swamp near the original town site.
