Florence Island (Washington)

Florence is an unincorporated community in Snohomish County, in the U.S. state of Washington. It's located on Florence Island in the Stillaguamish River delta.

Stanwood is a city in Snohomish County, Washington, United States. The city is located 50 miles (80 km) north of Seattle, at the mouth of the Stillaguamish River near Camano Island. As of the 2010 census, its population is 6,231. The Stanwood area has been home to the Stillaguamish people for thousands of years, who originally had a village at the present site of Stanwood. The modern city of Stanwood was later founded in 1866 as Centerville, adopting its current name in 1877 after the arrival of postmaster Daniel O. Pearson. It was platted in 1888 and incorporated as a city in 1903. The city was bypassed by the Great Northern Railway, which built a depot one mile (1.6 km) east that grew into its own separate town, incorporated in 1922 as East Stanwood. The two Stanwoods were civic rivals for several decades, until their governments were consolidated after a 1960 referendum was approved by voters. The city was historically home to several food processing plants, which were its largest employers, and was mainly populated by Scandinavians. Since the 1990s, Stanwood has grown into a bedroom community for Seattle and Everett and has annexed uphill areas that were developed into suburban subdivisions. Stanwood is primarily served by State Route 532, which connects Camano Island to Interstate 5, and also has a train station that opened in 2009.

Stanwood is an Amtrak train station in the city of Stanwood, Washington, United States. It is served by intercity Amtrak Cascades trains and consists of a single platform and an adjacent parking lot. The station is in downtown Stanwood, near the intersection of State Route 532 and the Pioneer Highway, and is also served by Community Transit and Island Transit buses. Stanwood station opened on November 21, 2009, as an infill station on the Cascades route after several delays in design and construction. The $5 million project to build the station was approved in 2006 and began construction in March 2009 alongside a siding expansion. Stanwood was previously served by intercity passenger trains on the Great Northern Railway until 1971.

Stanwood High School is a public high school located in the city of Stanwood, Washington about 50 miles (80 km) north of Seattle. There are 1,285 students between the 9th and 12th grades at Stanwood High School's 63-acre (25 ha) campus.

The Floyd Norgaard Cultural Center, previously known as the Stanwood IOOF Public Hall, is a building in Stanwood, Washington, United States, that was constructed in 1902. It served historically as a meeting hall. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.The building was constructed by the Stanwood Fraternal Association, which took possession of the site in 1902. The Stanwood I.O.O.F. Lodge #249 purchased the building in 1909. It was originally topped with a gable roof, which was replaced with the present flat roof, possibly during a remodelling that took place in 1922.The building served as a performance and meeting hall from the time of its construction until about 1939. The wide-ranging public presentations seen at the building included boxing matches, musical concerts, political lectures, farm shows, and high school dances. The building was used for storage from 1939 until 2000.The building was purchased in 2000 by the Stanwood Area Historical Society when it was found to be in a heavily deteriorated state. With its rehabilitation the hall was transformed into the Floyd Norgaard Cultural Center, named in honor of Floyd L. Norgaard, who spent his childhood in Stanwood and returned to live there in retirement.In 2014, the building saw further repairs with the replacement of siding on the south wall.

The Stillaguamish River is a river in the northwestern region of the U.S. state of Washington. It is mainly composed of two forks, the longer North Fork Stillaguamish (45 miles (72 km)) and the South Fork Stillaguamish. The two forks join near Arlington. From there the Stillaguamish River proper flows for 22 miles (35 km) to Puget Sound. The river's watershed drains part of the Cascade Range north of Seattle.

Leque Island is a small island located in Snohomish County, in Washington, United States. It can be found just beneath the bridge between Camano Island and Stanwood, at the mouth of the Stillaguamish River, in Puget Sound. Like the larger Florence Island, Leque is part of the Stillaguamish river delta. The island is formed where the Old Stillaguamish River Channel bifurcates at Leque's Point, with the South Pass flowing into Port Susan and the West Pass emptying into the southern end of Skagit Bay. Leque is separated from Camano to the west by Davis Slough.Leque Island was originally a salt marsh. After being diked for agricultural purposes, the island was cut off from tidal influence and since then the areas not in use for agriculture have transformed into freshwater wetlands.

Northwest Stanwood is a census-designated place (CDP) in Snohomish County, Washington, United States. The population was 149 at the 2010 census. The CDP was known as North Stanwood prior to the 2010 census, and it included area that is now part of the city of Stanwood.

The Mark Clark Bridge was a girder bridge that carried a State Route 532 across the Stillaguamish River between Stanwood, Washington, and Camano Island. It was the only form of road access to Camano Island from 1950 until 2010, when it was demolished. The bridge was named for Mark W. Clark, a decorated Army officer who spent time on Camano Island. The water surrounding Camano Island is too shallow for ferry service, which made this bridge a critical link for island residents and visitors.The bridge replaced an earlier swing bridge that opened in 1909 and was part of the first highway between Stanwood and Camano Island. Shortly after the highway was incorporated into the state highway system in 1945, a $615,000 replacement was planned by the state government at the request of Stanwood, Camano Island, and the former town of East Stanwood. It was dedicated on July 23, 1950, and was connected to a new highway bypassing Stanwood and East Stanwood.

Lake Ketchum is a census-designated place (CDP) in Snohomish County, Washington, United States. The population was 930 at the 2010 census.
