Rupert Village Historic District

Rupert is a town in Bennington County, Vermont, United States. The population was 698 at the 2020 census.The town is home to The Maple News, a trade publication focused on the maple syrup industry, and the former Jenks Tavern, built around 1807, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Rupert State Forest covers 363 acres (1.47 km2) in Rupert, Vermont in Bennington County. The forest is managed by the Vermont Department of Forests, Parks, and Recreation. It consists of two parcels located on the Rupert-Dorset town line that were a gift to the state in 1959, along with another 27 acres from the state in 2013. There is no legal right-of-way to these lands.

Pawlet Town Hall houses the municipal offices of the town of Pawlet, Vermont. Located at 122 School Street in the village center, it was built in 1881 as a combined town hall, meeting and performance venue, and retail establishment. It has served as town hall since its construction, and is a good local example of late Italianate architecture. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995.

The Jenks Tavern, also known historically as the East Rupert Hotel and the Hotel G. Jenks, is a historic public accommodations house at the junction of West Dorset Road with Vermont Routes 315 and 30 in Rupert, Vermont. Built about 1807, it is a well-preserved example of an early 19th-century traveler's accommodation in southern Vermont. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994. The building is now a private residence, the home of American playwright and author John Nassivera.

Pawlet is a town in Rutland County, Vermont, United States. The population was 1,424 at the 2020 census.

Pawlet is the central village and a census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Pawlet, Rutland County, Vermont, United States. As of the 2020 census, it had a population of 194, out of 1,424 in the entire town. The CDP is in southwestern Rutland County, at the geographic center of the town of Pawlet. It sits on the west side of the Taconic Mountains, in the valley of the Mettawee River, a northwest-flowing tributary of Lake Champlain. Vermont Route 30 passes through the village, leading north 7 miles (11 km) to Wells and southeast 8 miles (13 km) to Dorset. Vermont Route 133 has its southern terminus at Route 30 in Pawlet; it leads north 11 miles (18 km) to Middletown Springs.

Sandgate is a town in Bennington County, Vermont, United States. The population was 387 at the 2020 census.

Dorset is the primary settlement and a census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Dorset, Bennington County, Vermont, United States. As of the 2020 census, the CDP had a population of 360, out of 2,133 in the entire town. It is in northern Bennington County, in the western part of the town of Dorset, in a valley between Spruce Peak to the west, Mount Aeolus to the southeast, and Dorset Mountain to the northeast. Vermont Route 30 passes through the center of the village, leading southeast 6 miles (10 km) to Manchester Center and northwest 8 miles (13 km) to Pawlet. The Mettawee River runs through the northern part of the CDP, flowing northwest to the southern end of Lake Champlain at Whitehall, New York.

The Dorset Village Historic District encompasses a significant portion of the village center of Dorset, Vermont. Centered at the junction of Church Street, Kent Hill Road, and Vermont Route 30, the village was developed between the late 18th and early 20th centuries, and has a number of well-preserved unusual features, including sidewalks of marble from local quarries. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985, and was enlarged to the west in 1997.

Long Trail School is an independent college-preparatory coeducational day school serving students in grades 6-12 located in Dorset, Vermont, United States. The school provides financial aid to qualified students. Many area students are eligible for some amount of tax-funded tuition assistance.

The Charterhouse of the Transfiguration is the only Carthusian monastery in the United States, located on Mt. Equinox, in Sandgate, Vermont. It was founded in 1960 under the initiative of Fr. Thomas Verner Moore and completed in 1970. It superseded the earlier monastery at Sky Farm and Grace Farm (Charterhouse of Our Lady of Bethlehem), near Whitingham, Vermont, which Fr. Thomas had established in 1950.The 7,000-acre (28 km2) property was donated by Joseph George Davidson, a retired Union Carbide Corporation executive.The charterhouse was designed by architect Victor Christ-Janer & Associates of New Canaan, Connecticut, and fabricated of Vermont granite blocks.

The Kent Neighborhood Historic District encompasses a little-altered early 19th-century rural neighborhood of Dorset, Vermont. Centered at the junction of Dorset West Road and Nichols Hill Road, the area is also historically significant as the site in 1775 of the first meetings that culminated in Vermont's period of independence prior to become the 14th United States state. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.
