Thomas Jefferson High School (Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania)

Jefferson Hills is a borough in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, United States. In the 2020 census, the population was 12,424. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. Part of the West Jefferson Hills School District, Jefferson Hills was created as Jefferson Township. Incorporated on January 22, 1828, it was named after Thomas Jefferson. Before 1998, the borough was known as simply Jefferson.

The Jefferson Hills Public Library is a public library serving Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. The library is located in Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania, formed in 1959 to promote reading, thinking, learning, enjoyment of the arts, and to enhance the quality of life for all members of the community.

West Jefferson Hills School District is a midsized, suburban, public school system for residents of Jefferson Hills, West Elizabeth, and Pleasant Hills. Each of these South Hills communities are suburbs of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. West Jefferson Hills School District encompasses approximately 20 square miles. Per the 2015 local census data, it serves a resident population of 20,500.

Lick Run is a 6.7-mile-long (10.8 km) urban stream in southern Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, a tributary of Peters Creek. The former Lick Run coal mine of the Pittsburgh Coal Company had its mouth near the stream, along the B&O Railroad line.Several stone arch bridges cross the stream. One carries Brownsville Road over the stream near Broughton. A National Landmark stone arch bridge carries Cochran Mill Road over the stream further downstream.

The Bridge in Jefferson Borough, which carries Cochran's Mill Road over Lick Run, in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, is a single arch stone bridge built in 1901. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.Note, it is a different Cochran's Mill, in Armstrong County, which was the birthplace of Nellie Bly (Elizabeth Jane "Pink" Cochran).

Bear's Retreat is a small Pennsylvania landmark, primarily known for its age. It is a privately owned house dating back to c. 1794, being lived in as of 2011. The southern log side was built by Jacob Bare in 1794. It is believed he was a German immigrant based on the three-story construction of the log section. Despite plenty of room to build his home, large, heavy, hand-hewn logs were raised higher and higher into place in the traditional building custom of his homeland. The Northern "new addition" brick side built in 1840. The red-brick exterior was made on-site using the abundant clay found on the property. Remains of the outdoor summer kitchen are still clearly present. The property was designated a Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation Historic Landmark in 1983. Wilson Christian Academy was a private Christian school in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, that was established in 1977. It offered preschool for four- and five-year-olds, a full day kindergarten program and classes for grades 1 through 12. In July 2016, it was announced that Wilson would be merged into Cornerstone Christian Preparatory Academy, a school which had been founded in 2008 by Brandon McCall and was then located in South Park. The school remained at Wilson Christian Academy's location in West Mifflin but took Cornerstone's name and adopted their policies and education model. The school remains Pre-K through 12th grade.

The National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) is a U.S. national laboratory under the Department of Energy Office of Fossil Energy. NETL focuses on applied research for the clean production and use of domestic energy resources. It performs research and development on the supply, efficiency, and environmental constraints of producing and using fossil energy resources while maintaining affordability. NETL has sites in Albany, Oregon; Morgantown, West Virginia; and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Together, these sites have 117 buildings and 242 acres of land. More than 1,400 employees work at NETL's three sites including federal employees and contractors. NETL funds and manages contracted research in the United States and more than 40 foreign countries through arrangements with private organizations and other government agencies. This work is augmented by onsite applied research in computational and basic sciences, energy system dynamics, geological and environmental systems, and materials science.

Pleasant Hills is a borough in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was 8,504. It is a suburb of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area.

Century III Mall is an abandoned enclosed shopping mall located along Route 51 in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, approximately 10 miles southeast of downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States. The mall was built on a former slag dump in 1979. The Century III Mall planning began in 1976, opened in 1979, and closed in 2019. Anchor stores included Kaufmann's, Gimbels, JCPenney, Sears, and Montgomery Ward. It was the third largest shopping mall in the world at the time of its opening, but has since been surpassed by much larger malls. The mall was originally developed and owned by Edward J. DeBartolo Corporation. A 1996 merger between the mall's developer, now known as the DeBartolo Realty Corporation, and Simon Property Group, brought Century III Mall under the Simon DeBartolo Group heading, who owned the mall until 2011. The vacant mall site is currently owned by Las Vegas-based Moonbeam Capital Investments LLC.

Lobb's Cemetery, a.k.a. Lobb's Run Cemetery, is an historic cemetery that is located in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. It takes its name from Lobb's Run, a minor tributary of the Monongahela River, which flows by the entrance to the cemetery. The site was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.

Experimental Mine, U.S. Bureau of Mines is a landmark located in the Pittsburgh suburb of Bruceton, Pennsylvania. In 1910, the newly created U.S. Bureau of Mines leased a 38-acre tract of land from the Pittsburgh Coal Company and opened the Experimental Mine. One of the early findings in the Experimental Mine demonstrated that coal dust by itself was capable of propagating an explosion even in the absence of any methane gas. This demonstration was contrary to the old belief widely held at the time that coal dust could not explode without gas. This view had led to the very dangerous and widespread practice of using loose coal dust in mines to pack explosives in boreholes, which had cost many thousands of lives. These early experiments clearly proved that such a practice was too hazardous to continue.
