Experimental Mine, U.S. Bureau of Mines is a landmark located in the Pittsburgh suburb of Bruceton, Pennsylvania. In 1910, the newly created U.S. Bureau of Mines leased a 38-acre tract of land from the Pittsburgh Coal Company and opened the Experimental Mine. One of the early findings in the Experimental Mine demonstrated that coal dust by itself was capable of propagating an explosion even in the absence of any methane gas. This demonstration was contrary to the old belief widely held at the time that coal dust could not explode without gas. This view had led to the very dangerous and widespread practice of using loose coal dust in mines to pack explosives in boreholes, which had cost many thousands of lives. These early experiments clearly proved that such a practice was too hazardous to continue.

Bruceton is an unincorporated suburb of Pittsburgh within Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is part of the Greater Pittsburgh metropolitan region. Its western half is part of South Park Township and its eastern half is part of Jefferson Hills. Bruceton is the home of the Experimental Mine of the U.S. Bureau of Mines, which originally opened in 1910. It is also the home of the Pittsburgh Safety and Health Technology Center. The Pittsburgh and West Virginia Railway connected to the B&O Railroad in Bruceton. It is 185 miles (or 298 km) northwest of Washington D.C.

The Bridge in Jefferson Borough, which carries Cochran's Mill Road over Lick Run, in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, is a single arch stone bridge built in 1901. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.Note, it is a different Cochran's Mill, in Armstrong County, which was the birthplace of Nellie Bly (Elizabeth Jane "Pink" Cochran).

In 2009 the districts residents' per capita income was $21,538, while the median family income was $57,290.

Allegheny County Fairgrounds located in South Park in South Park Township, Pennsylvania, was acquired and designed for use in 1927 by the Allegheny County Department of Parks. Beginning in 1932, this was the location of the Allegheny County Fair. It was added to the List of Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation Historic Landmarks in 2009.

South Park Township is a township in the southern part of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, United States, near Pittsburgh. The population was 13,416 at the 2010 census.A large portion of the township consists of a county park of the same name.

Broughton is an unincorporated community in South Park Township, Pennsylvania, United States. Originally named Curry after Joseph Curry, a frontier physician and coroner of Allegheny County in 1810, it was renamed Broughton, to avoid confusion with the nearby Curry Hollow and the Curry in Blair County. It is located at the junction of Brownsville Road, Curry Road, and Broughton Road. Broughton was racially integrated in the early 20th century, due to coal miners working nearby mines in Horning. It was the location of Pittsburgh Terminal Coal Company's No. 5 mine.

Lick Run is a 6.7-mile-long (10.8 km) urban stream in southern Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, a tributary of Peters Creek. The former Lick Run coal mine of the Pittsburgh Coal Company had its mouth near the stream, along the B&O Railroad line.Several stone arch bridges cross the stream. One carries Brownsville Road over the stream near Broughton. A National Landmark stone arch bridge carries Cochran Mill Road over the stream further downstream.

Curry is an unincorporated community in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, later renamed Broughton.

Library is an unincorporated community in South Park Township, Pennsylvania along Brownsville Road. Originally known as Loafer's Hollow, it was renamed Library by its residents in honor of the first library in the area, founded by John Moore in 1833. South of Library, the original course of Brownsville Road continues as Pennsylvania Route 88. Library holds an annual Memorial Day parade and ceremony.

South Park is a 2,013-acre (8.15 km2) county park in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is the second largest in the county's 12,000-acre (49 km2) network of nine parks.
