Bombay State was a large Indian state created at the time of India's Independence, with other regions being added to it in the succeeding years. Bombay Presidency (roughly equating to the present-day Indian state of Maharashtra, excluding South Maharashtra and Vidarbha) was merged with the princely states of Baroda, Western India and Gujarat (the present-day Indian state of Gujarat) and the Deccan States (which included parts of the present-day Indian states of Maharashtra and Karnataka). On 1 November 1956, Bombay State was re-organized under the States Reorganisation Act on linguistic lines, absorbing various territories including the Saurashtra and Kutch States, which ceased to exist. On 1 May 1960, Bombay State was dissolved and split on linguistic lines into the two states of Gujarat, with Gujarati speaking population and Maharashtra, with Marathi speaking population.

Godiji Parshwanath (Hindi: श्री गोडीजी पार्श्वनाथ) is the name given to several images of the Jain Tirthankar Parshwananth in India, and to the temple where it is the main deity (mulanayaka). Parshwanath was the 23rd Tirthankara who attained nirvana in 777 BCE. The original image, about 1.5 feet high, was at Gori in Tharparkar district of Pakistan. The original temple still stands, but is empty. It is in village of Gori between Islamkot and Nagarparkar.

The University of Mumbai, informally known as Mumbai University (MU), is a collegiate, state-owned, public research university in Mumbai. It is one of the oldest educational institutes in the city, dating back to the British Bombay era. The University of Mumbai is one of the largest universities in the world. As of 2013, the university had 711 affiliated colleges. Ratan Tata is the appointed head of the advisory council.

Agripada is an area in South Mumbai. It is located between Byculla (West) and Mumbai Central (East). This area is connected with the Central Railway as well as the Western Railway. Agripada is also notable for its YMCA which has a swimming pool and various indoor and outdoor sports facilities. A large number of schools, including municipal schools, convents, Marathi, Hindi and English medium schools are located in this area. Maratha Mandir is the nearest cinema hall. The other surrounding areas are Mumbai Central, Byculla, Nagpada, Madanpura and Mahalaxmi. Agripada also has a large number of mosques, of which Arab Masjid and Al-Madina Masjid are the most famous.

Dagdi Chawl is a neighbourhood in Byculla, Mumbai, used to house mill workers from the nearby industries. Now it is known for the fortified home of mafia don turned politician Arun Gawli. On 2 October 2015, a Marathi film starring Ankush Choudhary, Makarand Deshpande and Pooja Sawant has been released by the name Daagdi Chawl which showcases 1995-96 gang war.

Mahalaxmi metro station (also known as HDFC Life - Mahalaxmi Metro for sponsorship reasons) is an underground metro station located in the Mahalaxmi neighbourhood, on the North–South corridor of the Aqua Line of the Mumbai Metro in Mumbai, India. It provides connectivity to the Western Line and the Mumbai Monorail. The station was opened to public on 9 October 2025, along with the remaining section of the Aqua Line from Acharya Atre Chowk to Cuffe Parade.

Topiwala National Medical College and Bai Yamunabai Laxman Nair Charitable Hospital, Mumbai is a government medical college in Mumbai, Maharashtra. The college imparts the degree Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). It is recognised by the Medical Council of India. This is one of the oldest medical colleges in Mumbai. Selection to the college is done on the basis of merit through the National Eligibility and Entrance Test. Yearly undergraduate student intake is 150.

Jagannath Shankar Sheth metro station (formerly known as Mumbai Central metro station) is an underground metro station on the North–South corridor of the Aqua Line of the Mumbai Metro in Mumbai, India. It connects to the Mumbai Central station. The station was inaugurated on 8 October 2025, along with the remaining section of the Aqua Line from Acharya Atre Chowk to Cuffe Parade.

Byculla is one of the 288 Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) constituencies of Maharashtra state in western India.

St. Agnes High School and Junior College of Commerce is a girls school and junior college located on Clare Road, Byculla in Mumbai, India. It is managed by the religious followers of the Convent of Jesus and Mary, affiliated to the Archdiocesan board of Education. This school is under the patronage of St.Agnes, after whom it is named. The school prepares students for S.S.C. examinations conducted by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education.To make for more effective management, the school is divided into four house under the patronage of St. Matthew(Red), St. John(Yellow), St. Mark(Blue)and St. Luke(Green). Similarly, the primary section is divided under the patronage of St. Agnes(Red), St. Goretti(Blue), St.Theresa(Yellow) and St. Joan(Green).

Maharashtra College of Arts Science and Commerce, Mumbai, (informally Maharashtra College) is a college affiliated with the University of Mumbai offering undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Arts, Science and Commerce. It is located near Nagpada. Maharashtra College is managed by the Khairul Islam Higher Education Society, Mumbai. Society was founded by Rafiq Zakaria, Educationist. Maharashtra College was the first educational institute in South Mumbai and one of the first in the state of Maharashta to power its electricity requirements completely from solar energy.Maharashtra college offer a junior college and degree college courses. Maharashtra college also provides also some additional courses for degree college like Computer Science and Information technology.

Khada Parsi, Ubha Parsi (transl. Standing Parsi) or Cursetjee Fountain is a Grade 1 heritage monument located in Byculla, Mumbai, India. Installed in 1867, the monument features a life-sized cast iron statue of Cursetjee Manockjee (19 August 1763 — 7 May 1845), a prominent Parsi businessman and philanthropist, atop a pillar and surrounded by mermaid fountains. It is considered one of the oldest Parsi statues in Mumbai.
