The South Carolina School for the Deaf and the Blind is a school in unincorporated Spartanburg County, South Carolina, United States, near Spartanburg and with a Spartanburg postal address. It was founded in 1849 by the Reverend Newton Pinckney Walker as a private school for students who were deaf. The School for the Blind was established in 1855, and the school became state funded in 1856.Previously students were under de jure educational segregation in the United States with black students separate. In 1967 the school racially integrated.The School for the Multihandicapped was established in 1977, and the school began providing outreach services in the mid-1980s.

Foster's Tavern is an upcountry 19th century historic landmark building in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, located at 191 Cedar Springs Road at the intersection of the old Pickneyville and Georgia roads (highways 56 and 295). As of May 2010, it was in private ownership. It is believed to be the oldest brick house in Spartanburg South Carolina, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on December 18, 1970.

U.S. Route 176 (South Pine Street) is the main road through the community, leading northwest 3 miles (5 km) to the center of Spartanburg and southeast 22 miles (35 km) to Union. South Carolina Highway 9 runs with US 176 along South Pine Street but leads east-southeast 45 miles (72 km) to Chester. The W Line of the Norfolk Southern Railway forms the southern border of the CDP.

About 1830, the two-story, brick portion of the house was added. Following an 1884 tornado, further modifications were made to the dwelling. The district includes most of the city of Spartanburg, as well as all of Ben Avon, Drayton and Whitney, most of Camp Croft, and portions of Arkwright, Hilltop, and Saxon. SCSD7 is led by Superintendent Jeff Stevens, a former principal at Spartanburg High School; he assumed the role of superintendent in July 2020.As of the 2021–22 academic term, Spartanburg County School District 7 serves more than 7,000 students across 11 schools.
