Edlaston and Wyaston

Wyaston is a hamlet in Derbyshire, England. It is located 3 miles south of Ashbourne. Wyaston is in the civil parish of Edlaston and Wyaston. This is 1⁄4 mile (1⁄2 km) southeast of Edlaston, both have a long history as separate townships, yet they form a single, if dispersed village.The parish contains some of the highest land locally, the parish peak of 180 metres (590 ft) is by the central road junction in Wyaston. A community hall is in use at Wyaston village.

Edlaston is a village three miles south of Ashbourne in Derbyshire, just off the A515 road. It is in close proximity to the hamlet of Wyaston, and the civil parish is called Edlaston and Wyaston. It had a population of 220 at the 2011 Census.It is very rural as the land is light and stony with a clay subsoil, which is suitable for dairy pasture. The village consists of a few farms and cottages and a traditional stone built public house The Shire Horse on the outer east edge of the village. To the west of the village is Edlaston Hall. It and its outbuildings have been converted to multiple dwellings.

Yeaveley is a small village and civil parish near Rodsley and 4 miles south of Ashbourne in Derbyshire. The population of the civil parish (including Rodsley) as at the 2011 census was 396.The village has no school but does have a public house and the Holy Trinity Church. During the reign of Richard I, Ralph Foun gave a hermitage at Yeaveley with lands, waters, woods, mills, and other appurtenances to the Knights Hospitallers.

Darley Moor Airfield and Road Race Circuit is situated on a high plateau adjacent to the A515, two miles south of Ashbourne, Derbyshire, England. The airfield is operated by Airways Airsports providing training in almost every type of leisure flying. The Second World War runway was transformed into Darley Moor Racetrack holding regular events since 1965 for motorbike and more recently cycle racing.

Stydd Hall (Castle) is a country house located near to the village of Yeaveley, Derbyshire, 15 miles (24 km) west of Derby, close to the A515 between Wyaston to the north, Great Cubley to the south, Yeaveley to the east and Alkmonton to the northeast. Stydd had formerly been an independent township but has all but disappeared: the hall and a farm are all that remains.Stydd Hall is still occupied and in use as a farmhouse but had previously been described as in need of repair and restoration. The hall remains private property, but is visible from adjacent public footpaths.

Yeaveley Preceptory, also known as Stydd Preceptory, was a preceptory of the Knights Hospitaller, near the village of Yeaveley, in Derbyshire, England. It was around a mile west of the village, on the site of the current Stydd Hall. The Preceptory has been variously known as "Yeaveley Preceptory", "Yeaveley Bailiwick", "Yeaveley and Barrow Preceptory" and "Stydd Preceptory". Preceptories like this were founded in order to raise revenues to fund the Hospitallers' 12th- and 13th-century crusades to Jerusalem.The Preceptory's ruins are protected as a Grade I listed building; The moated site is protected as a scheduled monument; The 17th-century Stydd Hall built on the site is Grade II* listed.

Clifton and Compton is a civil parish within the Derbyshire Dales district, in the county of Derbyshire, England. The parish, despite the name, only includes the villages of Clifton and Hangingbridge. In 2011 the parish had a population of 500. It is 124 miles (200 km) north west of London, 13 miles (21 km) north west of the county city of Derby, and 1+1⁄3 miles (2+1⁄4 km) south west of the market town of Ashbourne. Clifton and Compton touches the parishes of Ashbourne, Edlaston and Wyaston, Mayfield, Offcote and Underwood, Osmaston, Okeover and Snelston. There are eight listed buildings in Clifton and Compton.

Clifton (Mayfield) railway station was opened on 3 May 1852 by the North Staffordshire Railway at Clifton on the southern fringes of Ashbourne, Derbyshire. Originally named Clifton, it was renamed Clifton (Mayfield) on 22 August 1893, and was known as Clifton for Mayfield in some timetables. It was on a branch from Rocester to Ashbourne and in 1899 it was met by the Ashbourne Line built by the London and North Western Railway from Buxton. Regular passenger services ceased on 1 November 1954 and freight ended in 1964

Hungry Bentley is a deserted medieval village and civil parish in the Derbyshire Dales district of Derbyshire, England, between Uttoxeter and Derby. The site is a scheduled monument and has been called the best "depopulated settlement" in Derbyshire. The name Bentley is said to mean a clearing with bent grass. The more unusual appellation of "Hungry" is said to refer to the poor quality of the land and the local inhabitants' poor food.
