In 2017, the airport handled 88 million passengers and 2.65 million tonnes of cargo and registered 409,493 aircraft movements.Dubai International Airport is situated in the Al Garhoud district, 2.5 nautical miles (4.6 km; 2.9 mi) east of Dubai and spread over an area of 7,200 acres (2,900 ha) of land. Terminal 3 is the second-largest building in the world by floor space and the largest airport terminal in the world. In July 2019, Dubai International airport installed the largest solar energy system in the region's airports as part of Dubai's goal to reduce 30 percent of the city energy consumption by 2030.Emirates Airline has its hub airport in Dubai International (DXB) and has their own terminal 3 with 3 concourses that they share with Flydubai. The Emirates hub is the largest airline hub in the Middle East; Emirates handles 51% of all passenger traffic and accounts for approximately 42% of all aircraft movements at the airport. Dubai Airport is also the base for low-cost carrier flydubai which handles 13% of passenger traffic and 25% of aircraft movements at DXB. The airport has a total capacity of 90 million passengers annually. As of January 2016, there are over 7,700 weekly flights operated by 140 airlines to over 270 destinations across all inhabited continents. Over 63% of travelers using the airport in 2018 were connecting passengers.In 2014 Dubai International indirectly supported over 400,000 jobs and contributed over US$26.7 billion to the economy, which represented around 27% of Dubai's GDP and 21% of the employment in Dubai.

Dubai International Airport Terminal 3 is an airport terminal at Dubai International Airport serving Dubai, UAE. When completed and opened on 14 October 2008, it was the largest building in the world by floor area and is currently the world's largest airport terminal, with over 1,713,000 m2 (18,440,000 sq ft) of space. The partly underground Terminal 3 was built at a cost of US$4.5 billion, exclusively for Emirates and has a capacity of 43 million passengers. However it was announced on 6 September 2012 that Terminal 3 would no longer be Emirates exclusive, as Emirates and Qantas had set up an extensive code sharing agreement. Qantas would be the second and only one of two airlines to fly in and out of Terminal 3. This deal also allows Qantas to use the A380 Dedicated Concourse A. The terminal has 5 Airbus A380 gates at Concourse B, and 18 at Concourse A. (though since 2018, Qantas no longer flies to Dubai, as nonstop QF9/10 from Perth to London were launched and A380 again routed via Singapore instead). In December 2018, flydubai commenced flights from Terminal 3 to selected destinations to facilitate transfers to/from Emirates.

Emirates Flight 521 was a scheduled international passenger flight from Thiruvananthapuram, India, to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, operated by Emirates using a Boeing 777-300. On 3 August 2016, the aircraft carrying 282 passengers and 18 crew crashed while landing at Dubai International Airport.All 300 people on board survived the accident; 32 were injured, four were seriously injured. An airport firefighter died during the rescue operation, and another seven firefighters were injured. The accident is the only hull loss of an Emirates aircraft.

Al Twar (Arabic: الطوار) is a locality in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE). Located in eastern Dubai in Deira, Al Twar borders Dubai International Airport to the south, Al Qusais to the north, Hor Al Anz to the west and Muhaisnah to the east. It is bounded to the north and south by routes D 93 (Al Nahda Road) and D 91 (Abu Hail Road) respectively. It is predominantly a residential community. Landmarks in Al Twar include Al Wafa Hypermarket and Dubai Police headquarters as well as a state of the art indoor sports facility where residents of the area partake in sporting tournaments in Football, Table Tennis, Badminton and even Soap Football. Captain Majid is a common idol amongst the youth in the area. Al Twar also has parks such as the Al Twar Park.

Dubai Airport Free Zone (commonly known as DAFZA, Arabic: المنطقة الحرة بمطار دبي) is an elevated rapid-transit metro station on the Green Line of the Dubai Metro in Dubai, UAE.The station opened as part of the Green Line on 9 September 2011. Like most Dubai Metro stations, DAFZA lies above ground level. It is located on Al Nahda Street between Al Qusais and Al Twar. It is approximately 1/2 mile from the entrance of the eponymous Dubai Airport Free Zone (DAFZA). The station is also close to a number of bus routes. The station is close to Terminal 2 of Dubai International Airport.

It is close to the Adab Iranian Private School, Al Kuwait Intermediate Girls School, the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, The Westminster School, and the Al Bustan Centre. The station is also close to a number of bus routes.
