Eastgate Street

The siege of Gloucester took place between 10 August and 5 September 1643 during the First English Civil War. It was part of a Royalist campaign led by King Charles I to take control of the Severn Valley from the Parliamentarians. Following the costly storming of Bristol on 26 July, Charles invested Gloucester in the hope that a show of force would prompt it to surrender quickly and without bloodshed. When the city, under the governorship of Lieutenant-Colonel Edward Massey, refused, the Royalists attempted to bombard it into submission. Massey adopted an aggressive defence, and the Royalist positions outside the city were regularly disrupted by Parliamentarian raids. The Royalist artillery proved inadequate for the task of siege work and, faced with a shortage of ammunition, the besiegers attempted to breach the city walls by mining. With Royalist miners about to reach the city's east gate and the defenders critically low on gunpowder, a Parliamentarian army led by the Earl of Essex arrived and forced Charles to lift the siege.

Winston Hall, also known as Constitution House, is a grade II* listed building in Constitution Walk, off Bell Lane, in the city of Gloucester, England.It was built in 1750 as a townhouse for Richard Chandler, a wealthy wool-stapler, and remained in the Chandler family until 1876 when it became a school for young ladies. The New Inn, 16 Northgate Street, Gloucester, England, is a timber framed building used as a public house, hotel and restaurant. It is the most complete surviving example of a medieval courtyard inn with galleries in Britain, and is a Grade I listed building. The announcement of Lady Jane Grey's succession to the English throne was made from the Inn gallery in 1553.

Northgate Street is a street in the City of Gloucester, so named because its northern end was originally the location of the north gate in the city's walls. The street runs from the crossroads of Northgate, Eastgate, Southgate, and Westgate Streets in the south (The Cross) to London Road in the north. It is joined by St John's Lane, Hare Lane, and Worcester Street on the north side and The Oxebode, St Aldate Street, and Spread Eagle Road on the south side.

Gloucester Leisure Centre was a leisure centre located at Station Road in Gloucester, England. A new leisure centre (branded GL1) was built nearby as a replacement. The original centre was also used as a concert venue hosting artists such as Thin Lizzy, Duran Duran and The Police.
