Rancho Petaluma Adobe

Green String Farm was a 140-acre (57 ha) natural process sustainable farm near Petaluma, California that grew fruits and vegetables year-round and sold them in an on-site farm store. The farm also supplied produce, free-range eggs and grass fed beef to regional restaurants including Chez Panisse in Berkeley, CA. Bob Cannard and Fred Cline founded Green String Farm in 2003. Green String focused on environmental sustainability practices, which is different from Certified Organic. Green String Farm closed permanently in December 2022.

Rancho Petaluma was a 66,622-acre (269.61 km2) Mexican land grant in present-day Sonoma County, California given in 1834 by Governor José Figueroa to Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo. Rancho Petaluma stretched from Petaluma River on the west over the hills and down to Sonoma Creek on the east, including all land that lay between these two waterways from the edge of San Francisco Bay to approximately the present site of Glen Ellen. The rancho included present-day Petaluma and Lakeville.

Alvarado Street Bakery is a worker-owned bakery located in Petaluma, California that produces certified organic whole grain breads and bagels. Alvarado was featured in the 2009 Michael Moore documentary, Capitalism: A Love Story.Alvarado is organized as a worker cooperative and each employee receives one share in the cooperative. The shares grant each employee an equal vote on business matters, including employee benefits, salaries and the reinvestment of profits. As of 2009, more than half of the employees had been with the company for over 15 years and the average worker earns between $65,000 and $70,000 a year.

Shollenberger Park is a 165-acre (0.67 km2) wetland park located in Petaluma, California. Together with the 80-acre (320,000 m2) Alman Marsh, and 260-acre (1.1 km2) Ellis Creek which opened to the public in July 2009, a total of 505 acres (2.04 km2) are accessible to the public. The entirety is referred to as the "Petaluma Wetlands". Named after Richard Shollenberger, a park chief, the park is part of one of the last wetlands of its kind in the country. It is a bird watching paradise, attracting 231 species of birds, according to the last survey, including threatened species. The Audubon Society has ranked Shollenberger Park as an important birding site, and the San Francisco Chronicle ranks it as a top destination for nature-lovers. The park is home to rare animal and plant species, such as the endangered salt marsh harvest mouse. The park attracts 150,000 visitors annually and serves as an outdoor classroom for children as well as a wildlife research location. The Petaluma Wetlands Alliance, a 501(c)(3) environmental and educational nonprofit, does habitat restoration, gives bird and wildlife tours, and provides a third grade educational program consistent with California Educational curriculum. Point Blue Conservation Science, a non-profit wildlife conservation and research organization, is located adjacent to the park. The area was formerly known as Cader Lane Ponds.

Adobe Creek is a southward-flowing stream in Sonoma County, California, United States, which flows past the historic Rancho Petaluma Adobe on the creek's 7.5-mile (12.1 km) course to its confluence with the Petaluma River. It has also been called Casa Grande Creek.

Haystack Landing is a historic property in Sonoma County, California, now owned by Dutra Materials. Haystack Landing was a passenger and freight connection on San Francisco Bay via the Petaluma River and San Pablo Bay. The landing is currently the site of a historic steamer dock, a railroad bridge, and of a planned asphalt production and storage facility. Haystack Landing was featured in then-congressman Frank Riggs' election campaign in the 1996 California First Congressional District race, when his ties to the property drew criticism.

The Haystack Landing Bridge is a railroad bridge owned by Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) at Haystack Landing in Petaluma, California. The original Haystack Landing bridge, which was built in 1903 and installed in 1904, was a Warren truss swing bridge built by the Pennsylvania Steel Company. It was operated by buttons on the approach trestles, and had a 5-horsepower (3.7 kW) electric motor, as well as fabric belts and bevel gears. The turntable upon which it rotated had a diameter of 10 feet (3.0 m). When planning out their commuter rail system, SMART estimated that it would cost approximately 20 million dollars for the bridge to be used for passenger service, so they opted for the cheaper option of buying a used drawbridge. They decided upon the old Galveston Causeway railroad bridge, that was planned to be scrapped.SMART budgeted around 16 million dollars for the new bridge and purchased the 2.2-million-pound (1,000 t) bridge for 4.2 million dollars. Officials say the bridge should be good for around 75 to 80 years of passenger rail service. The new bridge has a host of new electrical systems, such as programmable logic control and flux vector variable frequency drives. The bridge also has integrated operating systems.

Petaluma Reservoir is a small, man-made lake located about 5 miles (8 km) northeast of Petaluma in Sonoma County, California, United States. Also known as Lawler Reservoir, its waters are impounded by Lawler Dam, a rock fill dam 40 feet (12 m) high and 1,150 feet (350 m) long that was built in 1910. The City of Petaluma owns the reservoir.In 1992, the State of California declared the reservoir unsafe in the event of an earthquake. Rather than perform a seismic retrofit of the dam, the City decided to stop using it for water supply.
