Haystack Landing Bridge

Haystack Landing is a historic property in Sonoma County, California, now owned by Dutra Materials. Haystack Landing was a passenger and freight connection on San Francisco Bay via the Petaluma River and San Pablo Bay. The landing is currently the site of a historic steamer dock, a railroad bridge, and of a planned asphalt production and storage facility. Haystack Landing was featured in then-congressman Frank Riggs' election campaign in the 1996 California First Congressional District race, when his ties to the property drew criticism.

Adobe Creek is a southward-flowing stream in Sonoma County, California, United States, which flows past the historic Rancho Petaluma Adobe on the creek's 7.5-mile (12.1 km) course to its confluence with the Petaluma River. It has also been called Casa Grande Creek.

Shollenberger Park is a 165-acre (0.67 km2) wetland park located in Petaluma, California. Together with the 80-acre (320,000 m2) Alman Marsh, and 260-acre (1.1 km2) Ellis Creek which opened to the public in July 2009, a total of 505 acres (2.04 km2) are accessible to the public. The entirety is referred to as the "Petaluma Wetlands". Named after Richard Shollenberger, a park chief, the park is part of one of the last wetlands of its kind in the country. It is a bird watching paradise, attracting 231 species of birds, according to the last survey, including threatened species. The Audubon Society has ranked Shollenberger Park as an important birding site, and the San Francisco Chronicle ranks it as a top destination for nature-lovers. The park is home to rare animal and plant species, such as the endangered salt marsh harvest mouse. The park attracts 150,000 visitors annually and serves as an outdoor classroom for children as well as a wildlife research location. The Petaluma Wetlands Alliance, a 501(c)(3) environmental and educational nonprofit, does habitat restoration, gives bird and wildlife tours, and provides a third grade educational program consistent with California Educational curriculum. Point Blue Conservation Science, a non-profit wildlife conservation and research organization, is located adjacent to the park. The area was formerly known as Cader Lane Ponds.

Sonoma Mountain High School is one of three alternative schools in Petaluma, California. It is located on the Casa Grande High School campus. There are, on average, 32 pupils enrolled at Sonoma Mountain High School at any given time. About 6 pupils graduate every year.

Alvarado Street Bakery is a worker-owned bakery located in Petaluma, California that produces certified organic whole grain breads and bagels. Alvarado was featured in the 2009 Michael Moore documentary, Capitalism: A Love Story.Alvarado is organized as a worker cooperative and each employee receives one share in the cooperative. The shares grant each employee an equal vote on business matters, including employee benefits, salaries and the reinvestment of profits. As of 2009, more than half of the employees had been with the company for over 15 years and the average worker earns between $65,000 and $70,000 a year.

Petaluma Downtown station is a Sonoma–Marin Area Rail Transit station in Petaluma. It opened to preview service on June 29, 2017; full commuter service commenced on August 25, 2017. A new platform and facilities were constructed adjacent to the historic Northwestern Pacific Railroad station building, which opened in 1914. It is the system's first station to open in the city, with Petaluma North station set to open later.

The Ellis--Martin House, at 1197 E. Washington St. in Petaluma, California, is a Craftsman style house which was built in 1908. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.It was designed by Petaluma architect Brainerd Jones and was built for John D. Ellis, a farmer, by Santa Rosa-based builder Frank A. Sullivan. It was home of Leopold Martin and his descendants, of a Marin County ranching family, from 1920 to 1998.

The United States Post Office in Petaluma, California, is located at 120 West Fourth Street. The building, completed in 1933, has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1985.The building is in the Spanish Colonial Revival style with some Gothic touches. Its front side (facing Fourth Street) presents five rounded arches surmounted by a terracotta frieze. The front portion of the roof is covered with interlocking clay tiles. Its NRHP nomination states: "The Petaluma Post Office derives its significance from its relation to the federal building programs of the 1920s and 1930s as they developed in California. It is an example of a style transitional between the classicism of the twenties and the Starved Classical style of the thirties."

Today, Petaluma is known for its well-preserved historic center and as a local hub for the Petaluma Valley region of Sonoma County.

The Free Public Library of Petaluma (also Old Carnegie Library, Carnegie Free Library and Petaluma Historical Library and Museum) is a research library and history museum at 20 Fourth Street in Petaluma, Sonoma County, California, US. Built in 1904 as a Carnegie Free Library, it was designed by Brainerd Jones as his first major commission before the architect gained regional recognition. In the 1970s, it was re-purposed as a research library and historical museum, known as the Petaluma Historical Library and Museum. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
